I genuinely hope Russ gets a big break somewhere. He's a nice talent.

Sorry for causing any alarm. Russ is still very much here. I was just commenting on the video preview of the Bahamas Bowl he did and was admiring his talent.

bshot 44- If you could care less then take your comments to another message board. This team has won 8 games and is looking for win 9. Sure a few fans will scream no league title since 1968, but I like the idea of winning some games and not having to worry about seven wins in five years. Maybe you prefer that alternative?

Yep, let’s embrace being the fourth fifth or sixth best team in the MAC. Why would we want to aim to be higher?

Such a tired line.

Read this verrrrrrrrryyyyyyyy slow.

I know Ohio was a steaming pile of garbage as a football program for about 3 decades.

No one. NO ONE is debating that.

And yes ... we all .... every single last Bobcat whether they are pro or anti Solich will agree that 8 wins a season is far, far, far better than going 1-11 or 2-10.

But for goodness sake.....why are we vilified when we would like to see the program take another step!?!?!

Huh?!?!

Ok ... so we've conqured the "let's make Ohio a respectable football program" .... so wouldn't the next natural step be "let's make Ohio a dominant MAC program"?????

You act the like the only alternative to beating lower lever MAC teams, bad FBS teams and an FCS nobody is suddenly going 2-10.

How about the other alternative .... Ohio actually starts winning a MAC East title more than every two or three years ... maybe squeeze in a MACC .... or a few more bowl wins?

Wow! How dare I consider that this program get even better and not just do cartwheels all the way down Route 33 because Ohio is 8-4 (5-3) again.

Mind numbing.

I admit that right now I am in the camp of those who "want to go back". I would love to go back to the days of Bill Hess ('58-'77). Yes he only went 108-91-4 during that time, BUT his teams were MAC Champs in '60, '63, '67 and '68. Plus his '60 team went 10-0 and was the National College Division Champ. His '68 team finished 18th in the final UPI poll and 20th in the final AP poll. Finally, his '62 team played in the Sun Bowl and his '68 team appeared in the Tangerine Bowl, and that was during the age of very few bowls. So if your argument is that if Solich goes we will regress to past teams, that regression is fine with me if it takes us to this level. Sorry, but we should expect more. It has been 13 years and we should have had a MACC by now.

Having had a daughter who played college volleyball, this kind of video brings a tear to your eye after all these years because it shows the friendship, respect and camaraderie that comes with being a member of a team. Great share Ted. Thanks.

No kidding! What a dumpster fire that has become.

Here's the difference ... UT fans are 1000% delusional thinking they are Alabama or Ohio State or USC. 8-10 wins and a nice New Year's Bowl is what Tennessee's ceiling is nowadays. They are no longer a premiere program like some of those others..... yet their fans think they should be winning national titles.

I think most Ohio fans would just like to see something more than what we've seen repeated for 13 years .... essentially the 8-5 (5-3) bowl loss season. I don't think it's delusional to think Ohio can rise to the top of the MAC and start winning league titles .... or even back-to-back division titles? Or even 10 games (considering they play one of the nation's weakest schedules yearly)

I don't think anyone envisions Ohio to be a yearly NY6 contender ... I think that is the peak of the mountain range stuff .... and i don't think that's within reach right now.

What I'm suggesting doesn't seem like a huge leap to me.

I don't think it is a huge leap. Overall, what you wish for is attainable and realistic. The issue is how we, as a fan base, respond when we don't get it. Tennessee fans have convinced themselves they should be challenging for National Championships at least once a decade. But when that doesn't happen, what do you do? It's the response that's the real issue.

I see what you're saying ...

But what I will offer is that Ohio has been tantalizingly close for sooooo long to finally getting over that hump .... only to fall flat on their face. It becomes increasingly frustrating.

It's not entitlement or absurd expectations ... I think it's the frustration of watching Ohio literally have Lucy pull the football from Charlie Brown's foot ..... and Ohio is BOTH LUCY AND CHARLIE!

It's self-inflicted. It's not like Toledo having the NIU thorn in their side for years ... where they've won 9 games and just can't beat NIU when it counts.

Ohio has thrown up all over themselves against everyone in the East .... Akron, Kent, Buffalo, BG, and Miami.

They are literally their own worst enemy. And it just keeps happening ... and happening ... and happening

I'm going to swim upstream on this one. A lot of folks still down about the end of the regular season (I didn't like it either, for the record).

But, I'm getting a different feeling about this game. I'm getting a 2012-like feeling about this one. The highs and lows of that season we're more drastic, but like the bowl that year, this one won't be in doubt after the first quarter.

The extra time for injuries to heal and the team will come out with a major attitude. I believe the Bobcats will roll in this one.

Just a feeling I'm getting over my coffee this morning.

And your point is especially borne out by the fact that so far Toledo is destroying Akron by 3 TDs in the 2nd quarter. I think we can all agree, Ohio SHOULD Be playing in this game. Given what was at stake, Ohio had no business losing to Akron, especially after throttling Toledo.

I understand that Ohio’s loss to the Zips is water under the bridge and we need to get past it. Agreed! But as much as it pains me to say it, if 13 years of past performance is any indication, Coach Solich and the program (to date) is not a championship program. Facts are facts unfortunately and what Bshot says is spot on. I wish he was wrong but he’s not.

I sure hope you’re right about that and I sort of get that vibe too!

The only thing that gives me pause is, one would’ve thought Ohio would’ve come out with a major attitude against Buffalo and yet came out on the short end.

We’ll see. Like you said, Ohio will be healthier for the game, so that’s good.

Sure love the optimism. But I'm scared it could be the other way around. UAB could throttle Ohio.

UAB is in the middle of a storybook season and will be JACKED to end it with a bowl win.

Ohio is in a incredibly disappointing downward spiral ... not sure what motivation they have to get up for this game.

UAB seems to have far more to gain

....and I simply don't trust this coaching staff to have this team ready mentally

Always interesting to consider where that blame belongs, according to fans. I have never been one to believe it's on the coaches to get a team "up" for playing a big game. If our players weren't up for beating Akron, I'm not sure any Knute Rockne speech was going to do it for them. It makes you wonder, is the MAC Championship really a big deal to these players? Serious question. I'm not trolling.

My local High School just won the State Championship this week. Huge achievement for this team. Fans and players have been understandably overflowing with excitement. Does the same degree of excitement accompany a MAC Championship? I don't know, but I have my doubts.

Interesting that both Maryville and Alcoa won (I'm guessing one of those is your school). I would agree that the local enthusiasm of a high school state championship far outweighs a MAC championship. Most high school programs are still pure programs. The excitement in Athens when the Bulldogs came up one touchdown short was absolutely an amazing time here in Athens (even when you consider the group that bitched about the kids getting out early to attend the game).
