I feel like this is a more appropriate spot for TOS talk, especially when he is ready to make the jump to college basketball. So far the following jobs are open:

Florida
Tennessee
Oregon State
UTEP
Georgia Southern
Ole Miss

Crazy as it sounds, sounds like the SEC could have two more jobs open before the end of the season.

I definitely can see some shakeup yet in the SEC by the end of this season:

-Arkansas-most likely
-Texas A&M-close second
-Vanderbilt-possible, but not likely

-If they can get the package together I think Bielema will be out the door at Arkansas

-Sumlin at Texas A&M has been pretty underwhelming during his time. Not many signature wins since Johnny Football has left town.

-Vandy may or may not cut ties with Mason. His seat was kind of warm last year until a late season surge to bowl eligibility. A loss to Tennessee to close the year could push it over the edge. Don't know the financials/contract etc. there.

When you pay the money the SEC pays, there will be no security for almost winning.

TOS to Nebraska, surprising no one.

UCLA no longer an option for TOS, as the Bruins officially hire Chip Kelly.

TOS to Arizona State

Did not think this was going to happen after beating Arizona.....wow!

With any firing I always ask four questions:

1. Was the guy fired because he wasn't good enough or because someone had an axe to grind? Part 2 of question: Did it feel right to fire him after giving him sufficient time? If it's an axe to grind, then the emotions got the better of you on this one and good luck recruiting someone. If a coach is given 6 years to make something of himself and he doesn't, also a good time to fire someone (i.e. Kevin Sumlin).

2. If you are going to fire a guy, do you have someone ready to take the job? If the answer is no, then be prepared for an extended search. Usually if an athletic department is savvy, they already have their guy dialed in, even if it goes a month to allow a coach to end their respective season (i.e. Jim Harbaugh was ready to go to Ann Arbor by Thanksgiving when Michigan hired him)

3. If you are going to fire a guy, can you do better than what you currently have? This is usually answered by question 2 if the athletic department has their ducks in a row, but is usually answered upon the hire. For example, was Mike Riley really an upgrade at Nebraska for Pelini? TBH, no.

4. The coach that is going to be hired, are they going to fit in with what the school identity/culture is? This is a larger question than people think, especially considering the answer to #1. Boosters who have a mindset for what a school should be will dictate this answer but a "Michigan-man" always has to be at the helm of Michigan. Not only that, the coach has to be someone who can fit in with boosters at events as well.

To round off these thoughts, do I think Arizona State firing their coach makes sense this year? No, I truly do not, especially given that Chip Kelly had accepted the UCLA job. We're going to find out in a hurry if Arizona State has someone up their sleeve or if they made the fire to make a fire.

5 year deal for $7.5 million per year is the rumor I'm seeing. That's a pretty good reason to make the move.

The Fox Sports radio station in Knoxville is supposedly reporting that the Schiano deal is off, but he'd already signed the contract, and the university may owe him $20 million.

Amazing if true.

Psychology students would do well to study the Tennessee and Penn State message boards, as well as the whole uproar that ensued today. Talk about a meltdown. One school of thought seems to think Schiano is a heinous individual for his supposed involvement in the Sandusky case. Yet, others think he should sue those who implicated him in the Sandusky case for defamation of character.

It seems some in Tennessee are upset that in addition to his association with Penn State, Schiano hasn't really stood out anywhere he has been. Other SEC fan bases seem to think Tennessee has delusions of grandeur by trying to get Jon Gruden to come out of the broadcast booth and follow a string of unsuccessful coaches in Knoxville. To them Knoxville's best football days have come and gone. Some are even asking why Schiano is still in Columbus? Now that the deal has apparently fallen through, who knows what's next? What a mess.

I guess TOS really wanted the job in Tennessee bad enough.....

All jokes aside, what a fricken joke. Considering that the Buccaneers and Buckeyes hired him after doing their background check, I think this is just an example of sour grapes over not gettin Gruden. TBH, seems like the college thing to do in protesting something that barely has a pulse of a connection and making the change happen.

Let me start out by saying I do not like Greg Schiano.
I think he's over rated as a Head Coach, going back to his days at Rutgers.
The one thing I do respect about him is how involved he was with Eric Legrand after his injury.

My wife is a PSU fan.

When the Freeh Report came out she read it,cover to cover.

When the Schiano/Tenn. issue came up I asked her about him being mentioned in the report.
She said she can't really remember anything specific about him.

According to an article in today's The Record, one Knoxville resident is quoted as saying "The accusations that he knew what was going on at Penn State, whether that's true or not ,we don't need that kind of drama going on right now.We need something that's going to bring us back up right now."

So if,as he claims,he didn't know about the child abuse going on at Penn State,is true,he still shouldn't be allowed to be Tenn. coach ?

Tennessee fans did not want Schiano as coach so they latched on to this. If Jon Gruden had the same issue, nothing would have been said. Schiano has been hired twice since the Sandusky scandal (by Tampa Bay and Ohio St.) without issue.

There are also a number of Ru fans who want the university to bring him back.

Yep. The hypothetical I saw this morning, which I think is perfect, is: What if the coaching pick was Art Briles? I have little doubt that UT fans would cheer the selection.

What a disgusting fan base. Clay Travis is the one who really pushed this narrative and it’s shameful. Of course I wish Tennessee nothing but failure over the next few years, but I don’t think they could get any worse. I really hope the athletic dept falls apart during their search. Can you imagine being Schiano and having your name thrown around like that when you’ve been cleared by federal prosecutors? I could care less whatever your opinion of the guy is, I hope UT pays him the full 20 million and then they have to hire Brady fckn Hoke as their HC for a few years

Whether you are Schiano or Franken or Spacey or someone else, in today's internet age, an accusation without any proof (I'm NOT saying anyone is guilty or innocent), but an accusation can build throughout social media, causing tremendous pressure on individuals/organizations to take quick action.

The speed at which we all get information now is unprecedented. And not all of it is accurate nor confirmed. Anyone else seeing the trend where big decisions are being made based on public pressure garnered from social media and not necessarily based on solid information? On one hand, kudos to the power of the people. On the other hand, people can be wrong.

The Schiano situation will be interesting to see how it plays out. Will he be owed money by Tennessee if he claims they tarnished his reputation with this? Will he get a settlement? Will OSU come under any pressure?
