I think during Frank's Monday press conference he said Papi was out for sure against CMU but was possible for BG and beyond.

If he's still in a cast, you have to think he won't be able to play for,at best, a couple of weeks more.

Given the fact that we have a sophomore Q.B. maybe a medical redshirt might be worth looking into.

It would seem that a broken bone in the hand would qualify as a season ending injury for a receiver.

Papi will be back. BG may be optimistic but we'll see. As Saturday made apparent, he greatly benefits the offense.

No question he benefits the offense.

What is troubling is that he's still in a cast.

Even if he's been running,he's gonna need some time to "loosen up" his hand and get back into "playing shape",especially hits after a catch.

If he was a lineman,or played defense, that would be one thing, but a receiver needs to have a "feel" for the ball.
That will take time to come back.

To me,the staff needs to look at when he may be able to come back.

If there are only 3-4 games left in the regular season, and depending on where we stand in the MAC, going for a medical redshirt may be the more prudent course of action.

I'd say rest Papi the next two weeks so he's 100% for Miami.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

We were up fairly high in the stands... I like to see plays develop, but that's a different post.

We were looking pretty hard and I couldn't see a conventional cast. Could it have been a smaller brace?

On tonight's radio show, Coach Solich said Papi's cast comes off on Wednesday and they will evaluate his status based on what they learn. He has been doing conditioning.

Papi was redshirted in 2014 after the very first game of the season. I'm not up on my rules, so how could a redshirt work for this season? The fact that it's a hand injury is troubling to me

He had one redshirt in 2014 as a result of injury. If he lost this season, too, as a result of injury, then after he completes his Senior year, he could apply for a sixth year. Sometimes that is granted, sometimes not. So, if after being at Ohio for five years he wants to stay for a sixth year, and if he's still healthy, and if he hasn't had any interest from the NFL, and if his appeal for the the sixth year is granted, he could get an extra year.

Heard White is expected to play vs BG. I wouldn’t play him just days after coming out of a cast but it’s obviously not my call.

Substitute "BG" with "CMU", and that could have been said last weekend as well. We know how that turned out.

I believe there is a silver lining to Papi's injury. Cope, Meyer, and Odom have had a chance to step up as have the tight ends from a receiving standpoint. I think this has built up their confidence and Rourke's confidence in them as receivers. The loss to CMU had more to do with the drive killing turnovers and the ill-timed formation penalty and the blocked field goal try. I think when Papi is in, the focus has been too much on him and opposing defenses know this. Having him out for a few games has made OUr passing game more multi-dimensional.

Having Papi back will certainly add another deep threat along with Cope that defenses have to cover and hopefully this will also open up receivers in the short and medium routes.

The only real game White impacted this year was the Purdue game. He had 7 catches for over 100 yards ... but as we all know, Ohio was never really in that game after the 2Q.

He only had 1 catch for 17 yards for KU and left the game relatively early.

And against Hampton .... I'm just going to stop there. It was freakin' Hampton. Who cares. You and I could've scored vs. them.

Anyhow ... he is a dynamic part of this offense that has yet to be really realized in 2017.

I hope he's back vs. BG and can be productive. He brings a certain skillset that really no one else on our offense can bring.

If he is utilized properly, he can be a very dangerous weapon.

Our offense clicked vs. KU and UMass (albeit those defenses were horrific) ...

Papi back in the lineup only adds another dimension to Rourke's unique ability ... Ouellette/Brown's power running ... and three pretty talented WRs in Cope, Odom & Meyer.

I think this offense has potential .... the players have talent ... as always, it will be interesting to see what position the coaching staff puts them in

+1

And, you can't measure Papi's influence on the game totally with his measurable statistics -- yards, catches, etc. During the Tennessee game last year I was in an end zone seat where I could see the line play very well, and I noticed that Tennessee double-team Papi on nearly every play in which he was in the game. It was sort a disguised double team as one defensive guy was right on him as they lined up, and another guy was halfway toward him. If any motion was to Papi's side of the field, the other guy would sprint over to double team Papi. This, of course, leaves OHIO with other options that would not be available if they were playing Papi straight up, so to speak. So, some big plays OHIO had in that game where Papi never touched the play may in part be attributed to his mere presence on the field.

There's an article in today's The Post that says White had a spiral fracture.

Does anyone know if he needed surgery ?

From what I've read, and from talking to my wife, whose a nurse, they're nasty and can take longer to fully heal then other fractures.
