Just curious: If Zaire does transfer to OHIO, could they redshirt Rourke?

On Zaire, it he had visited, it probably would have leaked out, so I'm guessing no. At this point I don't care. Maybe he'll come, maybe he'll go elsewhere. Either way Ohio will be fine. Even if he does come, he'll have to beat out the other players who already have a head start learning the playbook.

As for Rourke, yes, he can redshirt. He played last year at Fort Scott as a true freshman.

Thanks, L.C. I thought that was the case, but I wasn't sure his status last year at the JUCO.

Isn't it getting close to "mid April" when Zaire was supposed to announce his decision? At this point, if he wants to start and make a splash, OHIO might actually be his best option. As L.C. points out, he'd have to beat out Maxwell, Rourke and other QBs on the roster, but that would probably be much more of a lock than at any of the other places that are rumored to be interested in his services. No head coach, including Solich, is going to guarantee that he will start if he transfers. But, his odds here are going to be very good.

-QBs on roster but no established starter
-Strong offensive line returning
-Stable of running backs returning
-Established coaching staff with history of putting players in NFL (including likely top-60 pick this year)
-Closer to home than other schools

I hear Mid-April is magical in Athens.

So, you're saying get ready for year 13 Solich with no MACC?

I told myself to not respond to the constant negative posts from certain posters, but I must. I don't care if it is year 13 or year 20 for Coach Solich, this university and football program is much better with him, than without him. Certain critics pride themselves on posting nothing but negative material, but the Bobcat football program is in good shape compared to the one and two win seasons of the past. Many of us remember those days and if Ohio achieved a .500 season it was reason to celebrate.

Adding to that, it is in much better shape on a consistent basis that all but maybe 3-4 other programs in the MAC. The only one I would consistently call better is Toledo. BG, CMU, WMU, NIU - all having had some great years for sure, have also all had terrible years in there recently as well. A certain degree of respect is deserved for staying in the top 3-4 in the conference for several years in a row.

Before anyone plays the "stop endorsing mediocrity" type of response, this doesn't mean I don't think that taking the next step and winning in Detroit isn't important. It is. In fact, it's more important than any other potential win the program could have in my opinion.

Solich has lifted the program out of the dumps, I think he is ready to take the next step. Hopefully, this year is the year.

The pieces are all there. Defensive line lost a lot, but had amazing depth. Linebacker lost a great player, but has great depth, too. The secondary has been rebuilt, so no weak spot there. The wide receivers are young, but should be very good. TE should be very good. The offensive line should be Johnson's best yet. RB has great players and depth. Special teams should be outstanding. That only leaves QB. Between Maxwell, Rourke, or someone else, if they can find a leader and winner, this could be a very, very good team.

Even the schedule is favorable. They could win a couple P5 games and win a lot of games.

Accepting 12 years, probably about to grow to 13, without a MACC is to accept mediocrity.

Yeah, it's a great standard to accept, to be so very thankful that we're not the same program that won 17 games in 11 years.

Sorry, sport fans, but I am not the problem.

The problem is the problem.

Hey, let's spend a lot of resources playing football in a conference but be satisfied with never winning that conference!

12 years? How many years have you been an OHIO fan without a MACC????

The regression analysis I just ran says the problem clearly isn't Solich

And, believe it or not, the man's rumored to be a Brown's fan.

Good point; he's been the head coach for the last 12 years so he bears no responsibility for the lack of a MACC. Very good point.

The increased funding (facilities, etc) during his period of being the head coach also bring nothing in the way of expectations. You keep making very good points.

Interesting. The Browns have changed coaches in recent years and received increased funding. Why aren't expectations higher?

You seem to believe that Solich benefited from increased funding, rather than being the driver for funding increases.

How many division titles or bowl games were won in the 30 years prior to Frank Solich? Clearly expectations have risen.

Clearly it's a lot easier to get to a bowl game.

Clearly having been supported...$$$...with better facilities, it's not unreasonable to expect a MACC.

0-4 MAC title games, 2-6 bowl games.

Whatever.

MACC.

Clearly we failed for a long time before Frank Solich. Why is it so clear to you that we will not continue to fail after Frank Solich.

0-4 and 2-6 is 10 appearances in MACC and bowl games. We were 0-0 before.

Clearly 2-10 is a higher winning percentage than 0-0.

Classic fear of change paralysis.

Sure, a new head man may not MACC. But it's not likely that Solich will.

Doing same thing and expecting different results.

Tell me how many 'real' (top 50 0r 70 or more) programs would not have long fired Solich given his record.

At Ohio, FS is safe, but if he were at OSU or even UC, he might be gone. I am glad we have him, but it is time to take the next step. Moral Victories are played out like polka dot shirts and bell bottoms. Lets dare to be great. Truth be told, being in the middle of the pack is not the greatest feat, after being a coach at a great school with a great campus. We were perhaps 10 plays away from winning three MAC championships, which would have made Solich's tenure great, but close is not good enough. FS is hungry, let's be hungry as well. Don't take this as me being confrontational, take it as MY honest assessment.
