I love this statement.
"Our guy has got to be an all-league player," Isphording said. "The MAC Champ has generally had an all-league quarterback. That’s what we need. He’s got to fill that role.”

+1 very true, you have to demand excellence or recruit better guys.

I hope the OL steps up so that Maxwell may remain upright and two RBs might rush for more than the team's leading rusher has in the past three seasons.

The offensive line and running back injuries have made it tough on quarterbacks the last couple years. That isn't to say Ohio's quarterbacks aren't at fault, but they didn't get the help they needed either.

We have not had a guy as good as Joe Burrow was in high school at quarterback since I came here in 1979. That kid was/is the real deal at the D 1 level.

This is such an obnoxious post. 1. We have never had a QB who was as big of a stud as Burrow. 2. How is your post relevant? 3. Stud quarterbacks don't go to smaller schools, unless they have baggage. 4. I know you're going to make an arguement about him being the Coach's son, which has some merit. However, he is free to make his own decision, just like you are free to be a bitter old man about it.

Big Ben, Nate Davis. We had a guy verbal this year and opted to go James Madison, he had offers from bigger schools. You are speaking from feelings and not facts. Please don't cast your marginalized persona on our program.

So, we're again suddenly worried about a kid at osu who has taken five snaps in college and making comparisons to everyone? don't get it. he's at osu. he made his choice. good for him. but he's irrelevant to this program and this board, and I hope he throws 20 interceptions/game.

Back in 2008 there were posters here that made the same claim, more broadly applied to all positions, that Ohio had no players that were as good as any backup player at OSU. Nevertheless, Ohio took the game to 4 quarters, and I will always believe that, while Boo played well, if they had not separated T3's shoulder, Ohio would have won that game.

Well to find these kind of kids you have to know your turf. I will say it again, we do not recruit our own territory effectively. Sure you can point to all the Ohio kids on our roster. How many of those kids were scholarship out of the gate and not a walkon or a transfer? That's where my problem lies. Out of our initial 25 man recruiting class, we do not do a great job of hammering Ohio. Instead we rely on walk-ons who we give scholarships to time and time again. Not saying this is an awful strategy, but of our initial 25 how good do we truly do of striking gold versus striking out?

And sure, some of you can say the talent in this state wasn't good enough for Ohio State, they only signed 9 kids in-state. That said, look at how many of those kids left Ohio for schools outside of the state or Cincinnati. At our level, we don't do that great of a job cleaning up Ohio.

Ohio did recruit a lot of Ohio players in 2015-6, and until this year it seemed to be increasing. Ohio was hurt this year, I believe, by the rules (since rescinded) banning off-campus football camps. Ohio's football camps around the state are their best in-state recruiting tool.

In 2016 instate recruits included K. Harris, Odom, Tupa, Dorsa, I. Motley, Conrad, Popp, Notestine, X. Motley, Cree, Noel, plus I think Amir Miller was an Ohio player by way of Prep School, so that would be 12 of 18 Freshmen from Ohio

Hell, if Parson doesn't fumble the punt we win that game.

(I will go to my grave believing that osu did not recover the fumble in bounds.)

My lasting memory of that game comes from the fact that I listened to the game while in an OSU chat. The fans in the chat were hoping that OSU could find a way to hurt T3 to get him out of the game. When that actually happened, there was jubilation. But, then when Boo started playing fairly well, too, they started rooting for OSU to take him out, too. That was by far the most appalling demonstration of "sportsmanship" I have ever seen from any fanbase.

Not surprised at that attitude in the chat room.

There was also a key "no call" on OSU's go-ahead TD. There at least two clips on the play that weren't called. I was in the stadium, but we were in such a bad spot that they also had a TV monitor right in front of us. They replayed that play several times so you could see each of the clips. Home cooking.

The day that Ohio State loses to an in-state will be the last time that school ever gets a payday in Columbus. That I can guarantee you.

That said, like I did with Dayton in 2014 when that went down, I would root heavily for that team that does so. I swear it's the most annoying thing, especially when I hear of how people would rather go to an Ohio State game over going to their alma mater's game. Time and time again. Heck, I even had an ex's dad wear Ohio St. gear to an OU game the one time even though he didn't go there and not only that knew what I did for OU. But what do I know, fortunately she's an ex haha.

Agreed. And the best running back on the field that day was wearing green and white. And even with Boo, were it not for the muffed punt in the 4th qtr when Ohio still was leading and about to get possession, we'd be citing that as Ohio's biggest win ever.

BTW, my grandnephew was playing for OSU at the time and I was watching with my older brother, his grandpa, and Grandpa was plenty nervous as the game moved along with Ohio playing well.

This is why Clark Kellogg will always be one of my favorite athletes. In 2013, when Ohio was playing Ohio State in hoops at Ohio State, Clark Kellogg, one of the greatest basketball players to come through the OSU program, wore OHIO gear to support his son Nick. I thought that was fantastic and I loved the irony.

I have my doubts about that. While it would be bad for them to admit that they ever lost to, say, Toledo, it would be worse to hear Toledo fans say "Ohio State is afraid of us. We won the last time we met, and they won't play us again.".

However, Ohio State fans loved it when Toledo beat UMich. I remember a friend of mine from Columbus called to the tell me, "Did you hear the Michigan-Ohio State game this year has been cancelled." "No," I answered. "Yes, it's true," he said, "They couldn't get past Toledo."
