I find myself confident about our incoming QBs, but the concern I have is Isphording in the equation. I think it's unfair to say there has been significant improvement from first to second year under QBs. Maybe nominal improvement, but I don't see significant improvement. I think one of the telling signs of this has been that we haven't had a constant starting QB in his reign.

In year one, we had Vick as the definite starter, but once he was injured against Idaho, we couldn't identify the best QB. Primarily it was Vick, but Sprague was sprinkled in, such as in the Miami game.

In year two, it was a Sprague/Vick shuffle, neither establishing as the starter. The biggest travesty will remain our bowl game, where a seemingly healthy Vick wasn't played at all, despite being our best performing QB through the season.

In year three, Sprague suffered the unfortunate injury, making him ineligible. It was Windham's role to lead the team, but the yo-yo of starters continued under the Isphording tenure, flopping between Windham and Maxwell. Season starts with Windham, then it goes to Maxwell, then back to Windham when needed to relieve a struggling Maxwell in the MACC. Then, surprisingly, Windham takes EVERY bowl game snap, this despite 4 INTs and a fumble.

My question is, with QB, can we settle on one? Can we tell somebody that he's QB1, and go from there? Or will it be a guessing game week-to-week who our QB will be?

Also, is Duckworth staying with the team? If so, does he even enter a QB competition if it's open?

What's all the worry about QB next year??? Malik Zaire is coming here, remember. :-/

Yes Malik Zaire will be wonderful as a Bobcat. The coaches did a great job recruiting him.

Great job would have him on campus becoming a Bobcat.

It has nothing to do with the coaches at all. He wants to win a national championship and the Heisman and Ohio gives him the best platform to do both. Plus, he wants to confuse the 50% of college football fans that think Ohio's nickname is the Buckeyes and is located in Columbus, OH. It's the perfect trifecta.

We are good for Zaire and he is good for us. We will give him the platform that he needs to play at the next level and he will elevate the program through his qb play. The young man can play and dominate and he can do that here. He is from Dayton, he could have his family see him play and if he does what he is supposed to, we will be talking about his combine performance next year. Kudos to him for graduating and giving himself this opportunity. He gives us a great chance to run the table. God bless Zaire and the Cats. he could have went other places, I will be glad to see him in the green and white.

Consider: As a hot qb prospect, would you consider OHIO a place which has a history of really developing quarterbacks?

Zaire is not coming to be developed, he is coming to play. He is a senior and working out with trainer's now.

We have not seen Kitrell play, he may be better than those guys. What are their blocking grades? Where is their body of the work? Let's stop the start forever philosophy or I know that guy and I want him to play philosophy.

allen, allen, allen, these roster players are the very same you were in love with a year or two ago. What they have been up to would be butting heads with the likes of Basham, Sayles, Strobel, Laseak, Aloese, Brown and Poling. None of the newcomers have seen competition of that level. The coaches have their grades against the above plus they have a year or two of college strength and conditioning work. They are a year or two older are more mature and are likely shaving. Hayes excepted. So forgive me if my expectation is that the newcomers, Hayes excepted, will have a lot of catching up to do.

At some positions, such as offensive and defensive line, physical maturity tends to be as important as physical talent. At those positions true Freshmen rarely play. At other positions, such as WR and DB, athletic talent tends to be more important, and there you do often see true Freshmen playing. There are always exceptions, though, and you see linemen like Sayles or Preuhs playing as true Freshmen. We'll just have to see how things shake out this fall.

Stop being a clown. you are not a fan. Why would Zaire not want to come to Ohio, OhioBobcat? What is your angle? Have you become a gnat on somebody elses crap? Who are you after? Who are you trying to cozy up to? When Zaire comes don't try to attach yourself to him, let him handle his business. Why aren't you in Columbus cleaning a dorm room?

Oh yeah...he probably should have his head examined. I'm sure he wants to come here and travel the nickel and dime way we do. I'm sure he can't wait to go to a Bowl game, be given less money to spend than the dancing girls and cheerleaders, and have to play cards in the hotel to win enough money to eat.

Are you a backup qb's father? Are you the real JLO? This is getting sick, we have one guy that says he represents Ohio U and skipped work today and deployed to Columbus to shovel snow for a healthy OSU backup, hopefully the scout team doesn't throw snow balls at this person like they did last year. Now we have you trying to preserve a spot for someone that you love.

Nope...I don't even have a kid on the team, nor did i go to OU. I'm just someone who decided to follow OU football when the son of good friend of mine decided to commit a few years ago. He plays defense, by the way, so nice try with the QB comments.
I don't have on Bobcat blinders, and I don't look at everything through green-tinted glasses. I came away from traveling to Mobile highly disappointed in how your university treated its athletes...the very kids who got you to that Bowl game. There was a huge disparity in how the OU players were treated compared to how the Troy players were treated by their respective universities. My point in reference to Zaire is, he will see quite a change in how we travel compared to what he's used to.
Spend some time talking to actual current players and you will certainly learn a lot.

If he is worried about how he travels than he is worried about the wrong thing. He could conceivably come to Ohio, run the table, win the MAC and get a combine invite and go to the NFL. Zaire can get his name put in the history books, he can make a difference here. At a minimum, he will increase the QB play at Ohio.

Your arguments are so irrational and biased that it's actually hurting my head attempting to understand your side of the argument. Zaire will be a Notre Dame graduate by the end of this semester. Which makes me think he's a pretty intelligent kid. What intelligent kid would go from starter at ND, to starter at Ohio University?? Under Isphording, who aforementioned has NEVER had a consistent starting QB. It's not only asinine, it's unfathomable that he would come here. Remember Everett Golson? He transferred to Florida State. Zaire is arguably just as good as Golson. Zaire will end up in a middle of the pack BIG school or somewhere in the ACC. Even if Zaire were from Albany he wouldn't think about coming here for a hot second. Stop spreading ignorance

He already graduated, and is currently in Arizona training with a QB coach. Top schools are Wisky, and UNC. Florida's name has been floating but is unlikely. Sounds like Ohio is certainly in the mix to me

Ladies and gentleman, this is what we are producing. We are producing fans with loser mind states. If you know LynxRufus please hug him. Please explain that QB's have went from BIG schools to the MAC. Some (BIG Ben) have chosen the MAC over big schools. People with inside information, please email lynxrufus. Please don't let him continue in his pitiful state. Mascot man has no faith in us, what kind of fan is he? Let's stop the mediocrity.

A realistic fan who in a few weeks will be quoting this conversation and laughing at your arrogant gibberish. When schools such as Wisconsin and North Carolina are throwing interests your way while you train in the desert with a professional quarterback coach I'm sure Athens, Ohio is the last destination on his mind. I could literally sit and name the ridiculous claims you've made and I've been a user on this site for less than a year. Captain Allen Sunshine may be an optimist, but he'll surely look like an ass in the upcoming weeks. Maybe my "pitiful state" of realism just isn't suited for being an OU fan. I guess I should be optimistic that maybe next year Frank and Co will convince LeBron to enroll for a few seasons to play TE!

Wisky, lol. My father taught me to be my own man and never ride another mans jock. Forget Wisconsin, I am an Ohio fan. We had many kids turn down B1G and ACC schools to come here. We are building something here and I am glad that our coaches went after Zaire. Please don't attack me with your insecurity.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes
