Well... I can't say that I am too disappointed, being in my current position. Big loss for OU, big pickup for KU.

Interesting. Last season Ohio had Michael George go to Texas State and played them right away. Williams will be across the field from Ohio early in 2017. Best wishes to him and his family in Lawrence. Are there any former Bobcats who would be candidates for Williams' position?

Huge loss, but I can't say I'm surprised, other than the fact that he didn't move up to an even better job. At Kansas he'll most likely be out of work again in a couple more years. He's done an absolutely phenomenal job at Ohio, at identifying players to recruit, at getting them to sign, and at player development. Even the naysayers would have to agree with that assessment.

I'd guess that just as Frank hired Williams from New Mexico State after being impressed with their defensive line, no doubt Kansas was impressed with Ohio's defensive line.

And here I thought Ohio coaches never went anywhere, were in a dead-end gig, and that fact alone was reason to doubt them. Huh.

Are staff defections a signal that Frank has a horizon established for his retirement?

It seems from what I can tell only one Kansas football coach has been there longer than two years, so it seems likely one way or another, he'll be on to something else fairly soon.

He's 72. That makes the horizon not that far off.

Anyway, losing Williams is a real hit, it will be interesting to see who all the new coaches are.

Tough to see him go. I thought he did a great job with while here. Here we go again with another coach going to an opponent. Frank has holes to fill.

Oh, I wouldn't worry about that too much. Beaty got a pay double, all the Ass't coaches got pay raises, and the Jayhawks are currently sitting at the #6 (last I checked) recruiting class for 2018.

In fact, as much as I hate to say it, I think Kansas breaks their road loss streak at Ohio this fall.

Kansas does not have the number 6 recruiting class and we will only lose to Kansas if we have poor QB play. We physically hit them in the mouth last year and should do it this year. You probably saw this which is for 2018. http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/02/why-is-kansas-suddenly-re...

Hey, good job reading above when I said 2018. I was using that to illustrate the potential longevity of the KU coaching staff.

Ohio is *going* to get beat.

All of you who know me know that I would only say that if I were very certain of it.

We will see, people said the same thing last year. This is a game where we will be favored and we should win. Kansas has 7 commits for 2018, they will not be number 46 or below after everything shakes out, it is like Ohio being #1 in RPI a few years ago.

While I must concede that here we show some others desiring our coaches, there's stagnancy and lack of desire for the men in the top 3 spots--head coach, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator.

I'm assuming as well a nice salary bump may outweigh all other possible reasons for leaving.

Using ESPN data base, Williams made $90k at Ohio. The lowest Kansas salary was $130k. That's 2016. If the assistants there got a raise as mentioned above, it's not even close here. Jesse got a $1,800 raise in 2016.
Our salaries stink for D-1.

Monroe doesn't report fake news, he's invented a whole new category. It's quasi-fact news. He culls out data points that fit his narrative, ignores evidence to the contrary, and then repeats his points until most just give up and stop responding, not because he's won a debate, but because he's just worn them down and they don't want to keep rehashing the same old drivel over and over. I will give the guy credit for stamina I will also say that his acknowledgment in this thread that he might have made a slight error and that some of our coaches -- but not the top three -- are good coaches is a rarity. What isn't a rarity is that he'll just fine tune his mantra and continue plugging away.

"defections" We are seeing some of the younger staff taking steps up the ladder. It is a "signal" that Ohio has a strong program.

There are always plenty of reasons why an assistant coach might choose to move. If a move appears to be sideways or down, you have to wonder what the reasons might be. That isn't the case here. Both moves are to positions which carry substantially higher pay, so there is no need to look beyond the obvious.

To the best of my recollection, every assistant that has ever left has either gone to a P5 program, or to the NFL, with only one exception, that bring Coach George moving to Texas State. The program was at best a step sideways, but he might have gotten a better position with more money for all I know
