Can someone explain what we are to take from the following, other than it is great to see an indication of Ouellette getting involved again?

What does the "C" in front of Q. Maxwell indicate?

It appears that they have divided the players into certain groupings for some competition during weight lifting. OL and DL are obvious enough. I guess DS is "defensive skill", or "defensive speed", or something similar. Gullet is a Safety, and Wears is a wide receiver. C? Who knows. All the positions that are left over, perhaps. It doesn't really matter. As long as it motivates a little competition, it's a good thing.

It means those guys are kicking a** in offseason workouts in their respective groups. Good names on that list too. All these offensive linemen commits plus Maxwell and Oullette busting tail.....signifies a big ground and pound, dominate the clock type of team for 2017.

I think Rourke is going to be solid, and Maxwell will show much improvement. They will need a solid O-line in front of them. Between those guys already at Ohio, and the JUCOs coming in, it's time for Johnson to put together a dominating line.

Every year we hear how the strength of the Bobcats is so much higher than the previous years. Then we see a handful of games where the line is thoroughly dominated...this year it was the O-line that was unimpressive overall.

How dare you post the truth?

Orthodoxy demands adherence to the SFB line that we're getting better and better in every respect, no matter what the achieved results are.

Despite little returning proven at qb and wide receiver and serious losses from the front seven on defense, there is no reason to think that we'll be anything but terrific.

Glad to see Hagan on the list with others, he is committed to getting better. Seymour is stepping up with Mangen. I think our receivers will be good. I hope to see Odom on the list, he could fly when he was at Bedford.

Odom was on the list a couple weeks ago. Nice to see another "corterback" making the list this week.

So, they say Basham's bench was not too good. This gets back to my question about the comparative strength of our guys versus others. So, are the numbers for our guys good or bad? Anybody know?

Basham did 15 reps of the 225, and only one DE did worse. Brown apparently didn't try the 225, perhaps due to an upper body injury of some kind. I do know that the tweet above said "lots of people in the 20's", and anything in the 20s was good. A few players at the combine managed in the thirties, but not many, and the players at the combine are the best of the best.

Weight training has evolved. In the beginning the basic equipment was an Olympic bar, a bench and eventually a squat rack. The first established standards were the bench press and other upper body lifting that body builders and power lifters were using. Quickly weight training for various sports became specialized with football lifting concentrating on explosive power development and equal time was made for lower body work. Good programs are more interested in 10 yard/meter times over the old standard 40. The bench press, if included at all, is just one of many lifts taken in quick rotation. Max lifting takes preparation that is not often done. To build a quick, explosive and powerful football player worrying about a big lift in the bench might not make the cut. Besides some physiques like Bashams long arms are advantageous for the position he plays, but, not so much when you are at the bench. Good coaches get that. Coaches who evaluate talent are more impressed with what players can do with pads on between the sidelines. Players can display quickness, be explosive and be powerful and never put up the biggest numbers in testing. All this is great for the NFL Network.

Certainly players need to devote time to their weaknesses. However, I have never seen NFL scouts offering big contracts to Olympic weight lifters. Never have equated a huge number on the bench to being a superior athlete. Bench is but one lift that might be a part of a specialized lifting regimen to make an athlete bigger, stronger and faster.

L.C. from another thread that also applies. Apparently Ohio's strength and conditioning is creating athletes over weight lifters.

"Brown added a 6th place in the 3 cone drill and third in the 20 yard shuttle. In the end he nabbed "Top Performer" awards in two categories, the vertical leap and the 20 yard shuttle, and was barely off the pace in every other category. I don't think anyone helped themselves yesterday more than he did. My guess is that there will be a number of people taking a second look at his game film this week, and he'll be considered a mid to late round draft pick instead of a potential free agent, despite not being "NFL size" for a linebacker.
