Thanks for the further info. Seems like between Monday morning and Monday evening they made a decision. The fact that they are being so quite about it, seems to me to hint that there is a change in the wind.

Maybe we can employ the Enigma machine to get to the truth. I guarantee it's Maxwell, and glad of it.

I hope that KSU doesn't use this Namath-like guarantee to practice as though Maxwell will be the QB. ;-)

I'm trying to figure out how a game played in 35 degrees and rain with 30mph winds is "fun". But to each their own I guess.

I was about to counter with the fact that I went to many a Browns games as a younger man in this sort of weather.

But then I remembered I was at Browns games in the late 1990s and early 2000s, so...yeah...about the fun part...Phil Dawson backdoor cover field goals, maybe?

You got to see a lot of Dave Zastudil's punting too, no?

Statistically, they're two pretty evenly matched teams in MAC play vs somewhat similar opponents (Ohio has had Fiami, BG & EMU; Kent has had Akron, Buffalo & Fiami). Kent has the edge in scoring (28 vs 22) but Ohio is better with scoring defense (19 vs 23).

Kent is 9th in total offense; Ohio 10th. Kent is 5th in rushing offense; Ohio 8th. Ohio is 10th in pass offense; Kent 12th.

Kent is second in total D, Ohio is 3rd. Ohio is 1st in rushing D, Kent is 2nd. Kent is 6th in pass D; Ohio is 9th.

Kent is 7th in the MAC in 3rd down conversions; Ohio is 10th. Kent is 2nd in opponents' 3rd down conversions; Ohio is 4th. Red zone offense: Kent is 6th, Ohio is 8th. But in red zone D, Ohio is 4th, Kent is 10th.

TOP: Kent is 4th, Ohio is 5th. Turnover margin: Ohio is 1st; Kent is 3rd.

Ohio has a big edge in sacks (12 to 5). We're getting a sack about every 10 pass plays; Kent is getting a sack about every 14 pass plays. The teams are close in sacks against (Ohio has given up 6, Kent 7). But Kent hasn't thrown much, so it's a bit skewed. Ohio is giving up a sack about every 16 pass plays; Kent is giving up a sack about every 10 pass plays.

Yuck

10th in total offense
8th in rush offense
10th in pass offense
9th in pass efficiency
9th in pass defense
7th in pass efficiency defense
10th in 3rd down conversions
8th in red zone offense
9th in penalties

Those are some disappointing numbers especially when you consider Ohio has played Miami, BG and EMU (who is much improved, yes)

Is their really hope that things will drastically improve with UT, CMU and Akron still left?

These numbers don't really give you great hope that Ohio can blowout Kent and UB.....or even guarantee a win

I agree you with you 100%. I'm not real surprised with the offensive results because of our QB inexperience and the running back injuries. On the defensive side, it shows the lack of defensive back experience. Having a good front 7 is not all that counts defensively. It's too bad that the holes made up for some of the very good players we have at some positions

We are maybe in the top 6 or 7 in the league and that's about it. If we fall to Kent, I'd rate us in the bottom 3-4.

Sorry, but if my front 7 on d is totally solid but I'm worried about the back end...then I let the front seven loose.

Lotsa different type of pressures, blitzes.

Not us. We're very contain, playing to physical power with no finesse, no strategy, no different looks.

Let 'em loose!

Geez, even our defense is boring.

Have we not had enough of splinter factoids which don't reflect the sad truth of our performance?

I don't think many would argue the generally low quality of the teams which we've played this season.

Solid stats against lousy teams do not mitigate the scraping-by wins against poor teams and losses to poor teams and the blah quality that one sees by watching.

C'mon.

Should be an interesting game to watch. Kent defense is a good one with a couple of guys we will be seeing on Sundays in the future. Hopefully the Cats can generate some offense and make some plays. Practice has been spirited and up-tempo all week and I see the Cats being ready to play. Go Cats

I hope our running backs are back to full stength, otherwise I'm not real confident that our offense can score much. We scored 1 offensive touchdown against Miami. Kent seems better defensively to me.

Your factoid is that we're 2nd in the nation in sacks to Ohio State.

Clearly, this proves that we're the second best team in the nation, right after Ohio State.

At least we're not picking a splinter metric that doesn't prove anything here.

This is one of the tamest message boards I've ever seen. If no one was feeling negative at this point in the season, I'd be worried that no one cares.

Showboating and being boring are not the only two options.

It's possible to not showboat yet be an exciting, interesting, stirring and effective defense.

In fact, that remark about 'first you don't want showboating, now you don't like boring' --not good. I call a flagrant one for fractured thinking.
