Wow, what a choice. Play at OSU and potentially pursue a pro career or benefit from the QB brain trust of Scott Ipshording and Tim Albin. What was he thinking?

Listen, it was Joey Burrow's decision to attend OSU. Monroe and CC have a point, if a coaches kid does not want to come here than that does say something. If his dad talked him into going to OSU, than that is disgusting and that would show that he does not believe in our program and our coaches. The QB we just faced was a four star recruit, he turned down bcs offers to go to Eastern Michigan, he turned down Wisconsin for a chance to play right away and he will probably end up playing in the league. Big Ben turned down OSU to go to Miami and it worked out quite well. I am glad the kid is doing great at OSU. Ohio is a place where you can come and play right away and become a leader. At, OSU if he slips up they have two or three ready to play.

Yeah, just can't imagine a kid wanting to be on his own, out from his dad's shadow, not having to hear coach at practice AND when he gets home at night AND during holidays. The kid must be an idiot.

In my opinion Joey will not have the opportunity to start. JT will come back and have another great year. Therefore he loses another year and then the great recruit will come in and Joey's chances become less. The only chance is if JT is injured. Too many QB's under Urban lose their opportunities to play. This happened at BG, Utah and Florida.

I understand that Joey had a chance at Vanderbilt (they wanted him badly), to bad he did not make that choice.

Yeah, Miami was able to come up with Big Ben.

And, yes, there's a heck of a lot less chance of even playing at Ohio State than at OHIO.


I don't get it? For three years, I've been one of the few who has. Just because you don't like my advocacy for the truth about us doesn't mean that I'm wrong.

It doesn't mean that I'm correct, either. But the facts largely show that I'm correct.


Or do you enjoy the several yearly stunning losses that we do with a record only propped up by beating Gardner-Webb and other cupcakes?

It's fine if he wanted to go to OSU, if his father wanted that for him than that is troubling. If he was my son, I would tell him that he could go anywhere that he wanted. I would also tell him that I would love to coach him and watch him play every week. I don't blame Joey for his decision. I question the medi's saying that nobody should pick Ohio over OSU, I ask why do we play if we don't play to win. Go Cat's

If not he was a good soldier and I hope he gets a shot to play at the next level. I have no ill-feelings toward him. I wanted him to come to Ohio and make a name for his self. We could have ran the table this year, but he chose a differnet path. It takes a special kid to want to come to Ohio and put the program on his back. Big Ben did it at Miami, hopefully we get our Big Ben.

Big Ben to Miami over OSU is not nearly as neat and simple as you guys want to make that story. Ben played one season of QB in HS, and was a TE before QB. His and his families personal relationship with Coach Hoeppner and the fact that at Miami he was going to be a QB, while at OSU that was never a guarantee.

That would be amazing considering that Ben did not play defense.

wrong they recruited him as a tight end and then offered him a chance to play QB, Miami already had him sewed up, when OSU came to their senses.

Ben’s talents weren’t a secret to the Miami (Ohio) University staff, which invited him to its summer camp before his senior season. Ben performed well but left with no scholarship offer.

“We waited until he played a game,” Miami head coach Terry Hoeppner said. “I didn’t want to be the genius to offer this guy who never played quarterback a scholarship.”

In that first game, Ben threw six touchdowns. “I said, ‘That’s good enough for me,’” Hoeppner said.

Ohio State University also went after Ben, who set state high school records for yards (4,041) and touchdowns (54) playing in a high-powered offense similar to Miami’s.

In the end, Miami won. Ben saw a shot at being a four-year starter after then-No. 1 QB Mike Bath’s eligibility expired. “It came down to what would be comfortable for me and what felt right,” Ben said. “I prayed a lot about it, talked to my family about it, and it seemed like the right fit.”

Ben took a redshirt season in 2000, but won the starting job in 2001. After struggling in his first two games – trips to Michigan and Iowa – he fared better in his first home game, completing 20-of-25 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns as the RedHawks beat rival Cincinnati.

“It might have helped to be thrown into the fire that early vs. Michigan and Iowa,” Miami offensive coordinator and QB coach Shane Montgomery said, “because really, the light turned on.”

Ohio State probably would've had a better chance with Big Ben had John Cooper 1) pronounced his name correctly just once and 2) didn't wait until after 10 p.m. every time they made phone calls to his house.

Roethlisberger would've chosen Duke over Ohio State. That's how much he was turned off by Cooper and his staff.

you are right, he also wanted to join the FBI or CIA if he did not play professional football.
