The QB position this year is perhaps the weakest its ever been during the Solich years. I can't believe we're going into 2016 with Sprague as the de facto starter.

What a colossal waste of everyone's time, effort and money.

Some very good material to post on the lockers of the QBs. Paul dissing players. #Whodathunkit. Paul, you know we will revisit this later. I expect you will be about as on target as you were before the Independence Bowl.

Normally I'm a "pick your QB early and go with him" guy, but I think I am OK with a platoon system this year. #1, with the way we run them we always deal with injuries to the QB, so the more game experience we can get the better. #2, each guy shows flashes at times, so run a few series with each and see who has the hot hand in any given game.

I've never been a fan of the two headed quarterback. I can see the points you're trying to make, but to me, you've gotta have one guy that you designate as THE guy, the leader. The #2 can get lots of snaps late in games if you're ahead, and get practice snaps hopefully.

I support naming a starter, but let the competition continue. Appointment of "QB for Life" makes it difficult to send a struggling starter to the bench. Competition is the key. Not having a viable #2 available during TT's last season probably cost the team wins.

That's a good point, and an approach I agree with. I just don't like the idea of planning that each guy is going to play equal snaps behind center. Name your starter and field general, and stick with him at least through week one's finish unless it's a blowout.

Boring.

No particular news out of camp.
So many so blindly faithful in Solich and staff.
The season starts in two weeks.

And these threads are like a morgue.

Can you feel the excitement.

I would like to thank JD Sprague for his committment to Ohio University and to the football team. It takes courage to stop doing what you love but overall health and longevity is most important.

As far as the QB situation goes, I belive this will work out just fine. Greg gets to start and has played well under pressure especially in the Camellia Bowl. His quick decision on a bad snap allowed us to convert 4th down and eventually score before App State eventually kicked the FG. This also enforces Quinten Maxwell and Joey Duckworth to mature faster and get more reps this year which will in turn make our future brighter. I also believe one of the freshman from this years signing class will push Duckworth/Maxwell...particularly the Indiana kid Drew Kreszei. He fits our pistol scheme and is very accurate.

What concerns me right now is that many starters are getting rest. I understand injuries have deflated us in the past and I have seen that first hand practicing on our turf everyday during 2-a-days, however, a starter needs to atleast get 20% of the 57 snaps to stay in tune with game speed and play execution. Other than that I think we will be fine except Tennessee game.
Hopefully we can spread Tennessee's defense out and dink and doink them down the field. Wear their defense out.

Really....the season starts in two weeks and these threads are dead--maybe 4-6 posts a day between the two football threads (here and recruiting).

Couple that with the tremendous rocksinhead consensus that Solich is doing a tremendous job...

...and you get that this place is a cemetery not worth coming to if not for a few reasonable-view posters like me.

We're entering a season with 3 quarter backs, one with 53 throws and never started a game and two who've never played--and almost everyone here is blithely comfortable that we're on track for a very good year.

Try selling that at a school with a real football program...at a program where the coach isn't thought to be a god despite his mediocre record.

To address your points:

1. I suspect a lot of people here have lives and actually do MORE than be logged on to Bobcat Attack all day long.
2. Solich is doing a better job than anyone in Athens since the 70's so I think most everyone is happy with what he's accomplished.
3. "Reasonable view posters like you"? Ha! But thanks for the laugh.
4. And we will be the only college football program this year that will be starting a new guy? I seriously doubt it.
5. What college program do you mean by mediocre? Eastern Mich.? Miami?

PS Have you EVER posted anything positive about our program?

Good retort to Mr. Negative, mid70s. I will have to admit that he was right about Knorr. Somehow he's decided that Solich has become a Knorr. Nothing could be further from the truth. He will argue that he is the most objective person on this board, but what he is in his own mind and what he is in reality aren't necessarily the same thing. Watch him be very silent after any OHIO wins this fall, and then go bananas when we lose a game and play his chicken little routine. It must be very frustrating being him right now, because it's clear that Solich will only leave when he retires and he'll retire on his own terms.

I just struggle with so much negativity on his part. NEVER do we hear something positive like "glad to hear how well Windham is doing". Instead, it's that he's only thrown 53 passes and never started a game. All QB's at some stage have NEVER started a game. Whether you're a starting freshman QB or a 5th year red shirt senior. I may be in the minority but I think Windham may have a pretty good year. Sure, he'll make some mistakes and get picked off now and then. But I think when we look at the TEAM we know we have a solid team with a few untested areas as LC and others have pointed out. Minimize mistakes on both sides and we can do well. Sorry for being optimistic!

In some prior years, Ohio fans had a different relationship to their teams than most other teams. The teams had essentially unconditional support for most of the period from 2005 until mid 2012. Since then the support has evolved to be about the same as at most other schools, with some fans supporting the team, and other fans skeptical of the team. In the end it will sort itself. Once the team starts playing, they will either be good (as I expect), or bad (as Monroe expects). Nothing we say here will have any impact on that, so it's not worth getting into an argument over. We can each put out our expectations, and then in time we'll see who is the best prognosticator.

Speaking of prognostication, it's about time for the annual prognosticator thread, isn't it?

Snooping over at Zips site; some excitement there.

Former Columbus DeSales 4 star recruit and now former OSU running back who graduated and had a year of eligibility has enrolled in grad school in Akron, Warren Ball. Stuck behind Carlos Hyde and Zeke Elliott he didn't see much time in the Buckeye backfield.

Sounds like he wants to get a shot in the pros and figured that a year to showcase his skills might draw some attention his way.

Reports out of Akron have him at 6'1" and 232lbs with power and and an extra gear. They believe their OLine is improved and with Ball and Van Edwards returning, the running back spot will give them the ability to grind it out.
Looking good in the team scrimmage.

The team finished 2015 strong and that is an indicator of a program on the rise. More weapons at WR and RB combined than at any point in the Solich tenure and the front 7 defensively might be the best. The talent is there to be in every game. Tennessee the third week of the season is a plus as it gives Ohio time to work out the kinks and game film so a repeat of the 2013 Louisville game doesn't happen. I have the feeling the west is not going to play out with WMU having a monster season so who knows in the MAC race.

1. Whatever. Oh, let's let you feel like you've won this point so that you'll feel better.

2. If you're happy with meeting minimal, required standards (solid academic progress, no player transgressions) and no MACC a la Knorr, then good for you. Some of us feel that comparing the revered Solich to the absolute worst football in D1 is not our standard. 11 years and no MACC is the definition of mediocre.

3. You would laugh at a sad but true circumstance, given your inability to grasp reasonable truth. Thank you.

4. Again, I made no value judgment other than to ask if the apparent lack of concern over 'only 1 qb on roster who's ever played a college down and he's only thrown 53 balls' is reasonable.

5. Solich has won as many titles as EMU, less than Miami. 11 years and no title in the weak MACC.

I posted plenty of positive...until I recognized that we were falling back. Heck, I've recognized it for almost four years of seasons marked by significant losses, most to not-real-good teams. I understand that this is something that you've missed, willfully fail to comprehend.

Made with love.

Oh, go back and read my thread in which I post the comparison of big losses by Knorr and Solich. Only Solich has been her about 7 years longer than Knorr.

Or read the threads after the three CRASHING HUGE losses last year in which others suggested that we have started knorring again.

But, hey, go ahead and keep head subterranean.

I only care about a MACC. If Solich can get it, that's great. But over the last four seasons he's progressed backward.

pm me with your phone number. Let's set a time when we both have several hours for what should take no more than five minutes: Solich mediocre over 11 years, last four years bad.

Let's start here: No MAC title in 11 years = no MAC title in 11 years.

Windham has had moments in practice, against our own guys and mostly non-contact and not at full speed, in which he's been marvelous.

Are you happy?

If we don't MACC this year, will Windham's pre-season make it all better for you?

If Windham is not the answer, will you disregard that because he's had moments in pre-season?

Given your standard, there is only one QB in the conference every year that is "the answer." Sorry Monroe, I refuse to label everyone else "mediocre" just because they were not a MACC. These kids work too hard and often suffer a great deal for me not to celebrate there successes. So long as they represent Ohio well, and continue their upward trend of higher highs and higher lows, I will have to refuse your invitation to the pity party.

Now that it's election season, we're seeing and hearing more about "voter suppression."

Which got me to wondering: Is there a Monroe-induced "post suppression" phenomenon at play on bobcatattack.com. How many quality contributors have gone by the wayside because of this guy's incessant, inane content?

And that might address/answer his rant that said:

Really....the season starts in two weeks and these threads are dead--maybe 4-6 posts a day between the two football threads (here and recruiting).

+2, funny, I was thinking of the irony of the statement. I spend far less time here because of all his incessant negativity and ramblings.

The Few, The Proud, The Bobcats!

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.
