Seriously, AJ behind the QB and Maleek and Papi and the outside? The attack would be devastating.

Not related in the slightest, but I caught a little bit of Olympic Women's Rugby 7s this weekend....the ugliest damn triple option I've ever seen.

Hahahahahaha

You do not "sprinkle" the triple option. And in fact, OHIO has not seen a triple option since Grobe. Frank ran more leads and loads, in what was known as the Nebraska I, which was more of a power run game offense.

Certain beloved posters here have been saying for years that imagination and the mental/strategy part of football are important.

Of, you can be like a baseball pitcher who forgoes the wonderful effect of off-speed, change-up pitches.

Does anyone remember the '03 Utah Urban Meyers? They ran a triple option out of the shotgun and used short passes & motion to open up the defense and it would gash people. Obviously people have found ways to contain it, but we still see teams like Navy, New Mexico, and Georgia Tech run the triple option pretty successfully.

Triple option requires a lighter lineman to move their feet and block the formations. When that is committed to it throws effective pass blocking out. Attracting quality receivers and QB's becomes impossible. It was tried at Ohio with mild success under Grobe and Knorr needed years to move away from it. Grobe won 8 games 1 time at Ohio. Solich won 8 games twice, 9 games twice and 10 games one time with a conventional offense.

Ishording's comments about Duckworth were similar to what was said about Windham going into last year in that he has the ability to perform in this offense at a high level. Contribution wise all QB's sound as they are on the same level with Maxwell there as a redshirt frosh. That makes me feel better about the position going into next season with Sprague/Windham both graduating while the 3 star recruits won't be ready yet.

I am interested in the Triple teams now that the NCAA has tightened up the low blocking rules.

1. That is hardly innovative, that is the old Maryland I. An offense that ran its course in a very short time.

2. When New Mexico actually does something maybe I'll take note.

3. Maybe the worse option offense and formation ever drawn up.

Not a fair comparison.

The Knorr years were down but the dearth that Solich took over does not compare to what Grobe took over (17 wins in the prior 11 years...something like that).

Plus, Grobe's teams were dynamic. Solich's teams lately have been boring.

Sorry, but we're in the immediate-media age. Boring hurts us.

AJ has improved his 40 by two tenths, he must have felt others breating down his neck, he should be even more explosive. I can't wait to see how ALL of them perform, no more burying people to highlight fan favorites. Can't wait to see the safeties, I am kind of scared because the coaches spoke as if Toran Davis had an All Mac season last year, to me the safeties were awful last year. Hopefully the new guys put pressure on the older guys, can't way to see Bo play safety, release the hounds, go Cats. Way to go AJ, that is a heck of an improvement.

allen. The way things worked out I believe coach Solich was fortunate to have been let go by Nebraska where fan influence did seem to matter. At Ohio he has been able to take the long view and hire/recruit coaches/athletes he would enjoy spending years working with. Read Arkley's article about #12. He like #44, #45 and #32, who the players elected to be their captains, has it within himself to work hard to perform at a high level without anyone "breating down his neck" (sic). Read Arkley's article "Obsessed." It is about another self-motivated athlete who from day one of arriving at Ohio has been, himself, breathing down the neck of anyone ahead of him. allen, you have a way of damning with faint praise, of smiling while twisting the knife. I do not for a moment believe the coaches care a whit about "fan favorites." JMHO.

I meant every word I said about AJ, 2/10's is a heck of and improvement. I will say it again way to go AJ. That's real honor, I only praise God, but I give AJ honor, you guys are so thin skinned that you took my comment the wrong way. I am glad we have coach Solich too, he is not flawless. I am a Cleveland guy, Solich coached in a National Championship game. I remember when he first got here and challenged the team to a push up contest, he has great character and charisma. God bless you all, don't be so soft.

Really? You will hang your hat on making a Bowl Game??? Everyone who wins 6 goes to a Bowl game!!!! New Mexico is traditionally, past and modern, one of the worse teams in CFB history with a .451 winning percentage.

Ohio has been historically bad and has been hanging it's hat on making bowl games. Why can't New Mexico? That's the story of a whole lot of FBS programs that aren't in the P5 conferences.

Looking forward to the scrimmage today. This one will have as much contact as we are likely to see in any of the pre-season scrimmages as the era of "protect your team" and "go as hard as possible without full-go" is in full bloom at most Div. 1 programs. Watched practice the other day at one of our conference foes and they are following the the same approach to practice contact. Bo, Big Daddy Hess, and Woody are looking down and wondering "what the hell is going on down there" ! Bigger, Faster, Stronger has changed the game in many ways. I am for any changes that can help our kids stay healthy and make it to multiple game days !

New Mexico is 105 games under .500. And we've seen how excited the fan base gets when we go bowling with 6 wins. Face it, hanging your hat on a 6 win bowl season is a joke, I don't care it's a Big 10, Sec, Big 12 of the Clover Valley PeeWee association.

Bottom line, their Maryland I was introduced in the 1950's, it's not innovative in anyway, and will give UNM no advantage against anyone who's equal to or better in talent. If the scheme is so great, I'm sure we will see people everywhere copying it. After all imitation is the greatest compliment

Next scrimmage on Tuesday, Windham looked good. Elijah Ball can ball. Emanuelle had some impressive runs. Maleek had some good catch and runs.AJ and Papi, I don't know if they played. Mayne Williams and Stroebel looked good. http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/08121...
