I thought this was an interesting article on pitch meetings for recruits on MAC schools. I was totally surprised at who leads the poll, although not many votes have taken place. Besides OU, which school do you think you would have fun at on a recruiting trip? And which celebrity on this list did you not know attended a MAC school?

http://www.hustlebelt.com/2016/7/7/12101900/mac-school-pi...

If OU wasnt an option based on this article alone, I would say Kent State or Akron based on who would be present. Jack Lambert in pads at a practice would be bone-chilling!

The celebrity I did not know attended a MAC school was "Iceman" George Gervin at EMU.

We have a pretty solid list of alumni representing our fair conference!

They "missed the boat" not having Terry Crews under Western's list. Have him shirtless, looking at a recruit and then say "You are coming to Western Michigan." "Ok, Mr. Crews" would have to be the response as I would be terrified to ever tell him no!

Too bad Isaiah Mustafa of Old Spice commercial fame went to Arizona State. PJ Fleck would be all over him:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvylAu07yQM

I did find it interesting that they did not include Nick Saban or Lou Holtz on the Kent State list. Saban could have a "well, even if you only get to play here in the MAC you could still make tons of cash one day as a major college coach."

Also noticed they had Arsenio Hall under Kent's list. Urban legend maybe but I have heard before that we went to Ohio too?

Did not know Allie LaForce was one of us.

Richard Dean Anderson could be in the meeting and then start randomly making gadgets and gizmos out of random crap in the room. Don't know how many 17 year olds know about MacGyver, though. MacGruber, maybe.

Have to include Nancy Cartwright on our list. The recruits likely would not make a connection based on her face at first......she starts talking, pitching the school.....then, when they least expect it, shift into some of her Simpsons' character voices! If a player turns us down, she can tell them to "Eat my shorts, man!"

Based on current popularity/relevance/star power, it's pretty tough to top Akron having LeBron. That being said, the chance to rub elbows with Harry Dunne/Flap Horton and The Animal must be pretty attractive as CMU has a modest 4% lead over the rest of us.

Arsenio Hall transferred from Ohio to Kent State, where he graduated.

Thanks! It does seem like a lot of our most famous "alumni" didn't actually graduate from Ohio or at least as part of their first stint on campus.

I don't know a lot of these names. It probably has a lot to do with age. I remember random bench players from opposing MAC teams but wouldn't know their start players from 10-20 years ago.

I'd say Lebron is by far the biggest name on the list. Overall, I think our list is most impressive because of our journalism school. Seems like every week, I'll be watching TV and find out some random person I'm watching is a Bobcat. Both Lauer and Laforce will drop OU references. I'm a fan.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Allie was a member of the Bobcat basketball team for a couple of years before she decided to devote all of her time to her broadcasting aspirations. It turned out to be a good choice for her. If I recall correctly, Arsenio attended Ohio for a brief period and did transfer to Kent State.

I don't think Lauer ever graduated. He got an honorary degree. He's pretty good about giving OU publicity so I'll let it slide. Ed O'Neill has stated in interviews that he was more concerned with football and girls while at OU.

My favorite way under the radar "celebrity" is Beth from season 2 of MTV's Real World Los Angeles. I remember when she was at the Junction my senior year. People were going nuts that she was there.

I could be wrong but I think Lauer did get his bachelor's degree later in life.

If I recall correctly, Lauer left early but got a real degree later in life after the university allowed him to count his work experience to make up for the few credits he was short.

I wasn't judging Lauer. Even if he didn't get the degree it's fair to say he's done OK for himself. Piper Perabo in Coyote Ugly. She's the only reason worth watching that movie.

Getting back to football, Zastudil had a nice career. I would have liked to see his tenure in Cleveland turn out differently. Injuries weren't his friend while he was on the Browns. Not a high profile celebrity but still the most successful pro player we've had recently. Hoping Mitchell and Carrie can exceed that.

Terry Crews went to Western? If he did a "row your boat commercial" that would win some recruits for sure. I did not know that.

His speech at the 1997 morning graduation got him his degree. Hillary was in the afternoon. His speech contained the infamous "put the towel under the door in James Hall" quote.

We need to get Richard Dean Anderson to make some fun Chuck-Norris-esque videos supporting the Ohio Bobcats.

Down 10 with 3 seconds left? Put in McGyver! Victory!

He actually was All-MAC as a defensive end for the Broncos.

It seems like there is some reluctance to consider someone an alumnus or alumna if he or she did not graduate but that is not a requirement to be an alum. Even though life interrupted my doctoral work before time ran out I an a proud alumnus of Ohio.

(I am also an alumnus of BG with BS and MS but Ohio is where my heart, and money, belongs😊. Unfortunately, I am only a celebrity among a small group and even then my wife just rolls her eyes when that story is told again and again.

He was a scholarship player but he transferred to Youngstown State after his sophomore year so I'm not sure how much he ever played at Ohio. He signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent, so he must have been pretty good, even though he got cut in training camp.

No Orel Hershiser for BG? Sheesh. I remember when he was the highest paid player in the history of baseball.

Terry Crews as the Rock of the MAC. I like it.
