My heart and head are in agreement on Ohio's upcoming victory at Kansas.

My heart and head are in a heated battle over the Tennessee game. My heart will win the debate, it's just a matter of when.

I've seen crazier things happen.

This is good, actually. While Ohio can win this game, they will only win if they are focused and play well. As bad as Kansas was last year, they are still a P5 team, and they still have P5 level talent on the roster. Any win over a P5 team is a good win.

1. Kansas will not score 42 against our defense.
2. We will not score 35 with our offense.
3. We are not losing to Kansas.

You're being too kind. Kansas is only a P5 team by affiliation. Period. They are terrible. Take them out of the Big 12 and they resemble nothing like a P5 team whatsoever. They were not only the only P5 team to go winless last year (were also one of only two teams in all of the FBS to go winless), they also lost at home to an FCS school. Last year they didn't win a single game, the two years prior they won three, the year before that they won one. Kansas will beat FCS Rhode Island in their opener because that's a much more suitable matchup for them, then they'll be beaten by a MAC team that is flat out better. While I would normally agree that any win over a P5 team would be a good win, this one should come with an asterisk.

The first thing that stood out was his prediction of Kansas scoring 42 points. Kansas averaged 15 points last year and never scored that many points in any game. They only scored over 23 points once. If Ohio gives up 42 points to Kansas, it probably would be an indicator this season isn't going to go nearly as well as we all hope.

You're being too kind. Kansas is only a P5 team by affiliation. Period. They are terrible. ...

And while they were indeed terrible last year, it would be difficult to argue that they had no talent. Looking at recruiting rankings from 247Sports:
2013: Kansas #48 in the country, avg .795; Ohio #118, .7618
2014: Kansas #51, avg .8051; Ohio #105, avg .7597
2015: Kansas #74, avg .8104; Ohio #89, avg .7733
2016: Kansas #84, avg .8123; Ohio #115, avg .7730

Just because they were terrible last year, that doesn't mean that they don't have some talent. They do have a new coaching staff this year. They might or might not be better. It's not safe to presume that they will be as awful this year as they were last year because most likely, they will not be.

I do expect Ohio to win the game. I just think it will be one they have to earn.

Shadow of excuses forming: their recruiting is better than ours.

But they have a new coach and we have one who's been here forever, has had plenty of time to institute his ways.

Okay we can just deny the difference in talent level and say it's all about coaching. Sure it is.

Actually, the lack of talent (courtesy of Charlie Weis) is exactly why they were horrible last year. They only had 64 scholarship athletes. They'll be better this year, but still well below average.

My high school freshman season our team's coach was incompetent and the varsity lost every game. Coach gets fired, replaced by a real coach and in no time players were learning things like how to signal for a fair catch. A well coached team started the next season with a five game winning streak. Surprised everyone except the players.

Coaching is why I expect Ohio to win. It should more than offset the fact that Kansas has more highly touted recruits.

I hope that you are right, but talent usually does play a part in the game. We'll see how big a part in a few months.

The Kansas coach was still coaching in high school after Solich was coaching at Ohio. Looking at his resume, IMHO the MAC has added several coaches who seem to have better experience than this guy and Fleck is making more money in base salary. Kansas has been a tough gig for sure.

C Money's post with the July article on this years Kansas team would have everyone believing that they really have an uphill battle, including me.
Between all the new players, 20 less scholarships, and a new coaching staff it's very doubtful they will win many games this year. I also think that the university made it clear that this new staff has time to transform the team into a winning team. I would think, without knowing this coaches contract terms, that he probably has 3 years to show marked improvement.
Frank, came in to Ohio with far less issues to contend with. He also had a resume that gave him a great deal of credibility. This coach doesn't have that resume.
I would think that Kansas would win maybe 2-3 games this year, at best.
Now as to our game......Our boys will need to play at their full potential to get this win. I do believe our "D" will make some big plays which will take some pressure off the "O". Turnovers will determine the winner.
OHIO by 10.

I finally has a chance to read C. Money's article, and those recruiting classes I cited won't do them much good if all the players are gone. That's much like what happened to Ohio's 2010 and 2011 recruiting classes. Kansas will probably show some improvement this fall, but will take awhile to get back where they should be.

Nevertheless, ESPN did pick Kansas to win, and hopefully that will add some extra motivation to the players.

Simple fact that they are in a he Big 12 puts another star next to their players name. Kansas is horrid by any measure.

ESPN is always pro-"P"5. Fortunately, games are played on the field, not in blog posts.

I don't have much debate in my mind over the UT game. I can't see that one being close. Kansas, I'm in agreement with everyone on here about. That's the chance to steal a nice P5 win.

Just booked a flight and hotel for this game. My brother and I are going for my birthday weekend. Strongly considering making it 2 weekends in a row with the Tennessee game following it.
