I was watching the news tonight in Columbus and OSU is implementing this next season. You can only buy two at one time. All the big name companies will be available plus local Columbus companies. Profits will be geared towards adding two OSU polices officers, funds allocated to a research program on campus-related alcohol event research and the rest towards the athletic program. Undercover type officers will be near concessions to monitor alcohol swapping to underage fans. To me, I think it's a well-thought out plan. Only time will tell if it works. I think we could do something similar in a smaller scale. If it doesn'the work atleast we made the attempt. What do you think?

Will make the experience even more like a pro game than it already is.

I'm curious to watch this unfold. This could be a great idea for revenue, while also being a train wreck for intoxicated, obnoxious fans.

Isn't there something wrong with selling alcohol to fund programs to prevent/avert alcohol problems?

If you must, just do it and don't pretend it's a noble undertaking.

They don't have a boatload of such fans already?

I haven't been able to find any state immunity for O$U from Ohio's host-selling law (dram shop act). O$U probably will sell beer to people who already tanked from tailgating. Then if one (or more) of them kill or injure someone in an accident on the way home, O$U should be liable under the law.

Alcohol besotted fans is one reason I ceased attending NFL games back in the '90s.

Some would say yes. I might sometimes say yes, but the older I get, the more I learn that bandwagon programs all have fans that fall under this category. The UK's and Carolina's of the basketball world aren't much different from OSU or Alabama.

And, as we've all seen, the worst of them seem to be the ones that have no academic, or employment related connection to the school at all.

Typical Bitter Betty responses when OSU does something that we all think OU should do. We need to do the same thing here at OU. It helps make the games more of an event and can bring in casual fans and also get regular fans to stay the whole game. First thing we need to do is have the new OUPD chief get realistic about booze at tailgates.

I do agree with the point about the alcohol research. I hate when people try to sugar coat something and act like the public is stupid. Very similar to OU saying it isn't a party school....

Kind of like casino funds go to gambling addictions, that's always made me tilt my head sideways in the WTF stance.

I'd love to do a straw poll within the Ohio Bobcat fan base to test the theories that some have here about selling beer getting more fans to a game, and keeping more fans at a game. Maybe, just maybe, that is the case for students up to the 26-28 year old demographic. I have serious doubts after that, especially if the beer is simply Anheuser-Busch, or Miller-Coors inexpensive domestic beers.

You know what, in my opinion, would be more likely to keep people at Peden for the duration? An offensive unit and a QB that puts points on the board and is really fun to watch.

Now, the OUPD tailgating relaxation - I'm in agreement with you on that. Especially if the drinking occurs prior to the game, and then people go into the game and sober up.

Good luck with that last one

Probably top line revenue of about $800k per home game. Seven home games so they 5-6 milllion per season. Probably selling something like pouring rights and alcohol vendors licenses too.
