Last night I tried to renew my season tickets and pay my Bobcat Club contributions using the online process encouraged in the renewal package.

I'll be returning my renewal via snail mail. Hence, this week's poll.

Haven't yet/won't be completing it but I am curious what the story is behind the Movies 10 reference? That place was a heckuva deal when I was a student-could see a first run movie, with popcorn and a pop on a Saturday night for under $10.

I just renewed mine online the other day. I didn't have any trouble or confusion. It was simple and only took a minute.

+1. No issues at all for me. I suppose the caveat is that I use the account about 3-4 times a year, so I have to go and dig out the user/pwd info. Otherwise, no problems. If it's a problem, I'd just call the ticket office and order tickets over the phone. I've done that for season ticket renewals in the past.

For anyone that has issues with the online system, please feel free to give us a call at 800-575-2287.

Also, if you prefer to renew by phone, just give us a call! The process should take less than 3 minutes if you plan to keep your same seats.

For mailing in payment, please return to:

The only difficulty I have when renewing my football tickets, whether online or by phone, is when I look at the home schedule. It is, in one word, brutal (as in bad; not as in difficult).

I hope you know that this is intended as good fun, guys, but I am honestly not a dolt.

I was unable to edit the renewal quantities, unable to go back to the ticket screen from the OBC donation page, unable to see a combined transaction (OBC and tickets) in my "cart" and the OBC numbers popping up for me in the on-line screens didn't match the personalized stuffers that came with the paper forms. None of these things was explained in the online session (that I could find). I would have had an even harder time without the paper in from of me.

Nothing special about Movies 10, except that even small theaters now handle hundreds of on-line transactions daily. There have to be a large number of bots out there to manage this stuff and, hopefully, this one has been vetted.

I had some trouble similar to what has been mentioned. It couldn't seem to keep track of two items in the cart. It logged me off at one point right in the middle of checkout. I had to start right at the start again. I eventually was able to complete both my OBC renewal and my football season ticket order, but it wasn't exactly a walk in the park. I do a lot of online purchasing and I'd have to rate this experience in the bottom 20 percent. That's an improvement from last year when it would have rated in the bottom 10 percent.

Alan, what do you think about the home schedule? I know how you value spending a beautiful fall Saturday in Athens and I won't disagree. But how much interest is there when Texas St., Gardner-Webb, EMU and Kent St. are Ohio's opponents on those Saturdays? Not to mention games on Tuesday nights in November against perennial powers Buffalo and Akron.

Sorry, but I have very little interest in renewing season tix until this is upgraded.

I present to you the chicken vs. the egg scenario. You have to be interested in supporting your team, regardless of the opponent. If you don't love OHIO enough to support OHIO, regardless of the opponent, then why bother with any of this? If fans don't show up and don't spend money, then the schedule can never be upgraded (although we clearly have better home schedules in the coming years - seems like 2016 is an anomaly in this regard). Tennessee isn't coming to Athens. Ever. If you want better teams in Peden, it has to make financial sense for the athletic department. We accomplish quite a bit with our fee-supported, but still measly football budget. Whether Monroe admits is or not, we are an overachiever relative to our budget (he and i both agree we could still do better). For better or worse, revenue is the answer. you NOT spending money isn't going to help anyone.

Huh? DFC, there's some truth to what you say.

But don't fans have a right to also expect some good, winning football?

You can hate me being angry at the last four years for being replete with stunning losses and the lack of a MACC for 11 years. But you can't deny that they may keep our fans from being thrilled...from attending and being staunch boosters.

And, apart from winning, Solich's style of incredibly conservative ball is boring. It doesn't light up the fanbase.

Hmm. No winning. No excitement. There's a great recipe for an inspiring, fan-rousing program.

Whatever your standard is (let's be clear: it doesn't bother me that you have a high standard, it bothers me that you're annoying about it) to say that there's been no winning and no excitement is way way WAY off base. I've been very vocal about some of the recent very disappointing losses against the top of the league. Solich is still the second winningest coach in our history, and he's earned the right to get the ship right again, and I believe most signs point to another upswing. Am I as optimistic as LC? probably not, but just because I'm not as pessimistic as you are does not make me a Solich apologist. Maybe it's not as easy to win at Ohio as we all like to believe. Somehow our advantages in the basketball world don't always translate for football. Money generally wins in this game, and the fact remains we win above our budget.

2nd winningest--how ranks on games coached?

Would you deny that we play a ton of patsies each year? He hasn't much won above that schedule's quality, especially of late.

I'm not sure where our budget ranks in MAC but we seem to be putting a pretty amount into football (and/or football usable) activity lately.

It's fair to ask fans to be supportive.

Is it fair to ask fans to tolerate 46 years of no MACC, 11 of them helmed by the current coach?

As far as my avidity, yeah it's strong. But without me and a few others, you're left with a pile of 100%, absolute, total supporters (SFB) who wouldn't criticize Solich and staff if they lost every game. It's ridiculous and I'm not going to let the lack of reality infect what I love dearly.

(Yeah, we lost every game--but Coach has brought on student/athletes who are good guys with whom we'd be happy to spend our time! ...yeah, that's not minimal/baseline; it's totally enough.)

Fan interest has clearly gone up in the Solich-era. Not flat. Not down. Up. Significantly up. Ticket revenue and average attendance.

I think there's some merit to the argument that bigger name opponents draw some additional interest. But for me, and for many fans I believe, the experience of watching a good Ohio team beat an opponent on a Saturday at Peden really is the experience I'm looking for. And over the past two seasons, a 7-2 mark at home on Saturdays is a pretty good record and a nice reason to attend Saturday games.

(note: weekday games and the blowouts against upper tier MAC opponents are a separate story)

He has also had two seasons where an Ohio player has been named a semifinalist for the Draddy Trophy, one of the most prestigious academic honors in college football. Academic success is nothing new for Solich’s teams. While head coach at Nebraska, almost 90 percent of his student-athletes earned their degree. Seven times Huskers earned first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and on four other occasions, second-team honors were bestowed.

There is argument to the schedule affecting attendance, I agree. But consider that conference schedules are a give and take, and also cyclical. I'd guess that last year no one was complaining about a home schedule that included Marshall, Miami, and Western Michigan in the first four home games.

Short of playing Marshall, Miami, or BG at home every year, and never scheduling an FCS opponent, I'm not sure what some of you expect from Ohio's scheduling.

Yeah, they could play a tougher schedule, but then someone will complain they aren't playing enough home games early on. They could have three non-conf home games, and someone else will complain about the quality of the opponent, or that it's on a Friday night because TV wants to show the game. Next year, we'll have Kansas in Athens. Someone will probably find something wrong with that too.

I've taken the "just enjoy the day in Athens" approach to football season. We come early, we grab some local brews, and then tailgate. We enjoy the game and the band and make a full day of it.

I think we can all agree that we can all have different opinions about
what makes an attractive home schedule. I think we also have to
consider that we all have different situations.

For example, I was excited to get down to the Convo this past winter for multiple games because, a) I love Bobcat basketball and b) to see Jordan Dartis, a player my son and I had followed for the previous four seasons. Unfortunately, our situation prevented us from seeing any conference games. We live too far away to get to a school-night game and my son's youth basketball team, which I helped coached, played every Saturday afternoon in Jan. and Feb. while every Saturday home game in conference for Ohio was an afternoon tipoff. I do place my son's basketball games as a higher priority than Ohio basketball games at the risk of some on here claiming that I'm not a true Bobcat fan. If scheduling changes next winter, for either my son's games and/or Ohio's games, I hope to get to a lot more games next season. Not because all of a sudden I became a bigger (better) fan but because my situation changed.

I've taken the "just enjoy the day in Athens" approach to football season. We come early, we grab some local brews, and then tailgate. We enjoy the game and the band and make a full day of it.

Can't think of a better way to spend the day..
