Wants them to drop to 1AA or lower: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2016/04/27/uma... /

I can see their point. UMass doesn't seem willing to make the commitment to get an adequate stadium on-campus.

So that's three schools (EMU, Idaho and UMass) that have the same issue this offseason.

I don't know why the NCAA just doesn't cap the number of FBS schools at a certain figure, like 130 or 140 or whatever. If they can't handle it then don't let them.

There currently is a cap in place, I believe a 3 year cap.

Losses in FCS are generally greater than the losses in FBS because they tend to have lower attendance and no TV or bowl revenue, while they still have most of the same expenses. That's why FCS schools keep trying to transition to FBS. EMU has it right, I think - if they are going to drop from FBS, they need to go all the way to Division II or III, or drop it altogether, if they are going to really see savings.

This could be a coordinated effort -- by the AAUP or something. Strange time of year (end of academic year) for these votes to be taking place.

I predict you will see this on the faculty agenda very early next Fall. And it will pass. And then graduate senate would follow up with a similar vote.

Hawaii also has been considering dropping football altogether.

The UMass faculty resolution was soundly defeated. Here is our chancellors letter to the faculty senate and notice we already have a media deal, which includes 6 football games.
http://media.masslive.com/umassfootball/photo/subbaswamy-...

For our game in 2017 there is a possibility that some temporary seating will be added to bring capacity to 20k.

All six home games in 2017 are scheduled for McGuirk with only a smattering of future games set for Foxborough.

“We only want to play games at Gillette where we can get 25,000 to 30,000-plus people,” Bamford said. “We’d put games like Mississippi State, BYU or Boston College there.”

Bamford said UMass was already exploring temporary additional seats at McGuirk for the 2017 season, but hoped for more permanent solutions long term.

Additional information"

Like the previous two non-binding resolutions with similar aims presented in January 2013 and December 2014, Thursday's vote killed the motion, this time via a 26-to-14 standing count. And while the Faculty Senate exists in this matter only as an advisory body for the chancellor and possesses no authority to make a final decision on the fate FBS football at UMass, the continued opposition suggests the issue won't be going away any time soon.

UMass isn't even getting its faculty to vote down FBS football. It's the administration and the students that have to get behind a push down before it happens. Idaho's president sent out a survey to the students asking how they would feel about a move to FCS before moving down. EMU's students are on board with a drop, it will just take an administration willing to listen.

I did attend a game at Eastern they won in 2014. They claim they has 9000 that night also(first game, only about 5000 at best). It was against Morgan State though, a FCS school they barely defeated. That was the night they couldn't knock down the wall. I guess that says it all.

They are getting Mississippi State, BYU, South Florida, Boston College, UConn and Army to play at their place in the next 7 years.

Mississippi State appears to be a 2 for 1.

BYU looks like a 2 for 2.

Boston College looks to be an every other year thing and they jump back and forth between home and away.

Army is a 2 for 2.

UConn is a 2 for 2.

These future schedules look like something you make up on NCAA Football for XBox.
