Makes a lot of sense to those guys, it seems. You could see it coming when they got kicked out of the Sun Belt.

from the article: "It would also mean losing 22 football scholarships and, according to Staben, “it would also affect the availability of other sports, primarily women's sports, because we would probably decrease the overall scholarship number by gender approximately the same."

Ah, that tricky Title IX....

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

That's a scare tactic, no women's sports are going to be cut just because of football. Idaho was non-compliant to begin with, and will still be non compliant

Their AD said back in 2014 that they would have to drop some sports if they dropped out of FBS so I'm not sure that you are right on that. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

They've been studying this drop down for at least 3-4 years, so I wouldn't be surprised that they announce the other sports cuts today as well.

Wait...Are they dropping to FCS in order to net save money (less revenue but a bigger drop in costs)?

If so, wouldn't this free up money....which could mean MORE money to other/women's sports?

They're the lowest income school in D-1. There is no money, they're just reducing their losses.

Title IX cuts both ways. The reason the women's sports exist is to provide scholarships to women equal in number to men. If you cut 22 football scholarships, you then have 22 more women on scholarship than men. There are two ways you could fix that. One would be to also cut 22 women's scholarships, and the other would be to add 22 men's scholarships in other sports.

Since part of the reason for this is cost savings, it's unlikely that they would add 22 scholarships in other men's sports, and far more likely they would use this as an opportunity to reduce the spending on women's sports in addition to reducing spending on football.

Due to their remote location and the conference they were in, their travel expenses for football were enormous. I believe that last year they traveled more miles for away games than any other Division 1 team.

Does anyone know if New Mexico State has found a conference to land their football program?

You have to be kidding me. I don't believe that you really believe this. Women's sports exist for the same reason men's sports exist. I still can't believe I read that.

One party to blame for that.

Is cutting funding for education or increasing costs for it really a way to lay a good basis for a prosperous future?

Sadly, this isn't new news. Some years ago, accompanying a TIME magazine story on college affordability was a 2-page map of the U.S. Inside each state it showed two figures: tuition for state-assisted colleges and per capita support for students at state-assisted colleges. Ohio's tuition was 2nd highest and its per capita support 2nd lowest.

I assume Miami was number one?

The 2nd highest and 2nd lowest figures applied to all state-assisted schools in our state.
