Please read a few paragraphs down in this story and see the subterfuge being planned by the Evil Empire. Let's hope OHIO legal is not asleep at the switch:

Defending against this isn't enough. We need to throw a counter.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Maybe the University of Michigan should object to Trademarking Script Ohio.
Their marching band did come up with idea and did it first.

No worries, we have a poster who will keep these guys on their toes, and make sure they are continually reminded of the agreements and regressions.

Unfortunately, I think Glidden was asleep at the switch when the agreement was made (or he didn't care that much), so I think this would go in Columbus A&M's favor if push came to shove. Not that our alma mater's lawyers ever shove (or even push),

Hrm, I'm not really sure what you are upset about (Beyond the obvious that this agreement is, in general, whack):

The agreement under I.A.3 already allows for this use, now they are just trademarking it:

"Ohio" in script form, i.e., as depicted by The Ohio State University Marching Band

The only argument I could really see is that they don't actually have rights to the trademark of "Ohio" in script form as it falls under our trademark (Hence why it was mentioned in the agreement). Rather they should just continue to utilize it under the free-use of the agreement.

Thanks to Homage and other local producers, there are thousands of people walking around Columbus and OUr campus wearing shirts of various colors displaying only a script Ohio on the chest. initially, I thought they were OUr fans but after a few quizzical looks in response to my "Go Cats!", I decided otherwise.

In short, script Ohio on merchandise not related to A&M's band (or cheerleaders) is ubiquitous. This "case", if it ever existed, has already been lost.

May I suggest you continue to say "Go Cats"? Living in Central Ohio, I'm continually replying with "BOBCATS" following the neverending O-H-I-O chant. I even give my students extra credit when they do this at school assemblies/in the hallway/classroom, etc. . . The "Sheep" give me/us quizzical looks as well for the most part.

I LOVE IT!! I try to end the O-H-I-O chant myself with a "U" when they play it at Browns games I'm at, or to be more accurate, when I "went" to Browns games, that is.

I will give Homage some props for a few things:

1) After tOSU, they seem to try harder to showcase OU as a primary school of interest in their line. It's wise of them from a business standpoint but they seem to try harder. Ohio is next in line after Ohio State in their listing of schools they offer products for on all menus.

2) I have noticed that on their website that they switched the listing from what was originally "Ohio University" to just "Ohio."

3) They offer a great selection of Ohio shirts in my opinion and feature some designs are regularly sold out online, meaning OUr community is buying them up and hopefully wearing them from wherever they rule the world.

My biggest Homage dilemma? My sister, who knows very little about sports, bought my son a Script Ohio sweatshirt for Christmas from there thinking it was an OU shirt and I didn't have the heart to say anything about it. (credit her for actually thinking "Ohio" was for "Ohio University!") Do I let him wear a present from his loving aunt? Or is this a good lesson on school loyalty haha? (He of course can wear it since family comes first and it was bought with love)

This may be the single most effective way to slow OSU from doing this. When the general population begins to genuinely mistake a plain script Ohio shirt to mean Ohio University, then the Bobcats have won. The best thing Ohio can do is continue to establish the Ohio brand. Use it as much as the trademark will allow. Confusion serves Ohio University.

I'm as big an OHIO honk as anyone. But, really--extra credit in school for OHIO? Advocating the OHIO, sure. Putting kids ahead in school for doing it? Not really.

But consider the source.

That race to 8,000 posts w/o one of any substance has become a sprint.

I doubt if anyone else took me literally, including my 11 and 12-year-old students?

Maybe to way to combat their way or thinking is to look to some form of "Ohio State" that Ohio can trademark and then see what happens.

That's interesting. That's very interesting.

Imagine if Homage (or anyone) started offering that shirt in green lettering.

Absolute pandemonium.

Need to talk with Channel 4 in Columbus, too. They're calling their coverage of O$U players in the NFL draft "The Ohio 14."

At best it's being lazy. All of the players went to Ohio STATE. Of that, many of them do not originally hail from Ohio so that's not an accurate reference either.

Of the 12 players drafted, 8 of them are from Ohio, so to say "many", is a gross overstatement, and 4 of those 8 came from Franklin County. Of one of the 4 who are not from Ohio, their family hailed from Ohio and his uncle was an All-American. Criticize all you want, but lets be better than a Facebook meme and actually deal with some facts.

A unique perspective on BA . . . if we confined ourselves to dealing strictly with facts there'd be about one post a day on this board.
