I didn't see any official news, but Vanderbilt just hired a new offensive line coach, so I guess that means Keven(or Kevin) Lightner is gone. Did I miss this earlier? Mason is under extreme pressure there by most accounts, so he needs to change something for sure.

If I was going to pick the position where I have been most consistently disappointed by the progress under Solich at Ohio, I think it would have to be offensive line. It has always seemed to be two steps forward, two steps back. There have been some good lines, such as 2006 and 2011, but it has been inconsistent. There were too many injuries and too little depth.

I am hoping that with Johnson we'll see steady progress now. His first year (2014) was rough, but Lightner didn't leave him a lot to work with. This year was better, especially so at the end of the season, so I'm hopeful that over the next couple years we will continue to see additional progress, and we'll finally see consistently dominating offensive lines. I want to see lines so good that if I were the running back, I'd be able to gain yards (ands that would take a very, good line lol).

It's been a bad winter to be a former OHIO assistant.

"We need you to do better of you'll lose your job."

"We won four games."

"That's not very good."

"At Vanderbilt."

"Well, when you phrase it like that... Good job! We'll draw up the extension and have it to your lawyer by tomorrow."

So what were the particulars? Did he get fired as I would suppose, or something else. Where is he now? Was it officially announced?

They had a press release and everything, just like a real college football team. They even had a press conference for the new coach. As for where is he now? Last I spoke with him he was looking, hoping to hear something in the past week, but so far nothing has shaken loose for him yet.

Thanks for the info. I wish him well. I found an article about the dismissal. Mason tries to take the high road on the firing.
