Dr Doxsee was by far and away my favorite professor, and was a better person.

A mutual friend told me that Alan has a birth certificate showing he was born in Canada of U.S. parents and that he got the birth certificate from a very respectable website in Kenya! ;-)

I'm as American as you can get - July 4th in Akron General Hospital.

Yes, but, Alan, I seem to recall that back about the time you were born, Akron General had temporarily seceded.

Well I guess that makes our children children of "immigrants" since my wife was born in that same hospital a mere four days before me.

Because of my books, I've had the honor and pleasure of getting to know him well. Have visited his home several times. Always gracious - and in the face of serious adversity.

I never took a university class from Dr. Doxsee, but he was my Sunday School teacher once in a galaxy far away. He was, of course, very good at that, as he is at everything he does. He was also a friend of my parents, so I saw him some at various social gatherings as a youth. He is currently in the Lindley Inn, and I would encourage all of you who know him to pay him a visit. We are overdue for one ourselves. The last time we visited him, he seemed very appreciative.

Oh, c'mon. As one goes through life, one must develop a little bit of a tough skin. Just a little bit.

There's been nothing of late except some decent, solid discussion.

This ain't life and death folks. Ya gotta be able to take it with a sense of humor.

I understand the "Personal Attacks" portion of this. In fact I abide by it even when I would really like to lay into a few of the dolts on this site.
But what is "flaming"? From my OHIO days flaming was always followed by the name of a particular muscle located in one's lower mid section at the end of digestion. Is that faming the same at BA's flaming?

Safe zones are antithetical to the First Amendment.

This is correct, but I'm referring to the general trend these days in higher education to jettison the First Amendment in favor of this ill conceived idea that college students deserve "safe spaces" because they can't deal with the rough and tumble of a vibrant democratic society with multiple, conflicting and sometimes very contentious points of view. This is the opposite of the free speech movements on college campuses in my youth, and it is a very dangerous direction that threatens the future of American democracy and our free republic.

Have to agree with Tugboat Annie OCF. This is happening way too often for comedians on campus tours as well. Too much feigned righteous indignation and being affronted simply for the sake of it.
