I tend to agree, but besides the fact that these two were for East Championships, I see a couple differences that affect our perspectives. The first is that the Temple games were preceded by smack talk from some guy in a boa, so our enjoyment of the win was heightened, whereas this year the smack talk can not from a foe, but from within, so the win brought not joy, but healing. The second difference is that our memory of those two wins has been sweetened over the years by two outstanding videos from Evan Shaw, videos that we can watch over and over, and enjoy every time.

What will the video recap of this game look like? Will it sweeten our memories over the years? Or, will the video recap make it appear like just another win?

Under the circumstance, my vote is for the win against Akron to clinch the first MAC East title under Solich.

In regard to the QB play...

We can't compare our 3rd string to their 3rd string...it's the difference between a redshirt junior and a true freshman. Even though they were both 3rd sting, you're not comparing the same thing. I was actually impressed by the play of NIU's 3rd string true freshman QB. He's going to be pretty good with a few more years under his belt.

I was at that second one, the 2009 Temple game. It was on Black Friday. We put a hurting on a really good Temple team that day.

This was a great victory but in no way was it the biggest MAC win ever.

This wasn't out biggest MAC win in the Solich era, but it was definitely the most unlikely.

I love the debate. I'm just happy we have multiple MAC wins that we can all vote were the best of the Solich era.

I don't think anyone is downplaying the significance or importance of any of these wins.

I just think the '09 & '11 wins over Temple....while HUGE....were a little less impressive than the NIU win this year because we were a really, really good football team in '09 & '11. Had we lost those games, it would've been immensely frustrating and disappointing.

I think had Ohio lost to NIU last night....it wouldn't have been a shock or as disappointing. As folks have pointed out, we were essentially playing for nothing but pride. And these are games in the last 4-5 years we did not win.

So for Frank to take a team into DeKalb...where no one has one in November in years....and to beat a team that was on verge of clinching another division title.....and to stick it to them like Ohio did.....and considering where are program is now....and with all the adversity/injuries.....to me, it's the most impressive MAC win I've seen in Solich era.

Again...just my opinion. Agree or disagree....it doesn't matter. Just respect each other's opinions and don't dismiss them like they're an idiot for even suggesting the thought.

Evan Shaw.....first ballot HOFr

It might be a bit of an exaggeration, but losing him from the athletic dept was a really, really big loss in my opinion.

What he did to elevate the relevancy of Ohio football and basketball cannot be understated. Those videos/shows he did brought a spotlight to both programs and only enhanced their legitimacy on the state and national stage.

It gave Ohio a big-time feel......

Obviously having winning teams during those days helped....

But I think kids see that stuff and think more highly of Ohio.....and it gives Ohio a little more of a coolness factor (kind of like Oregon with those uniforms)

Evan's work is sorely missed. I think it's a huge void in our athletic dept. I know funding is an issue....but Ohio was distancing themselves from the rest of the MAC in a name recognition fashion during that time....and the loss of those shows/videos I think has brought us back closer to the pack.

We finished the regular season 9-3 in both '09 and '11, we finished '15 at 8-4. Let's not forget the '09 team lost to a bad Kent St team and lost to a 6-6 Marshall team in a bowl. The '11 team lost to a really bad Buffalo team and blew a 20-0 lead in the MACC. Yes, the previous teams were good, but they weren't significantly better.

I'm not saying they were Top 25 teams....

But neither of the '09 or '11 teams lost 62-24, 49-14 or 42-17

The losses might have been to bad teams....but they were never flat out embarrassed in games like this '15 team was three times.

You can make a strong case that the reason we won was we were not playing for anything important, no pressure since it didn't really matter so we were loose. It was a nice unexpected win and they could have folded at 20-14 but they didn't. A nice win for Solich but I would still like a change at the top since finishing 2nd in the east wasn't anyones goal at the start of the season.
