So did I in another thread. Monroe may need to hire a private duty nurse to be on standby the next time he reads BA.

Make that four, because the depth chart also includes Jake Hale. I don't think Pleasants has played yet, however, so he could still end up with a redshirt.

This Saturday is my b-day as well. Last time I attended a game on B-day, I think we beat BG. Up there. Man it was miserably cold.

Akron's OL starts all Srs, with about 80 total starts. Sayles & Co will have their hands full. Their NT & DT are both Srs with Grice building on 40 starts. Akron WR Lane is 6'3" 220 and is their deep threat. He is avg 30+ per reception. The safeties will have to respect him. A pick by Carp on a deep route would go a long way toward keeping them honest. Fr. LB Crouch should play and I would love to see him with a pick or fumble recovery going the other way. This will not be a pretty game for either side. There will be moments when they will make Ohio look bad, hopefully, there will be more moments when Ohio makes them look bad. Time for the special teams to contribute. Akron will use starters on their ST to send their Srs out with a win over Ohio.

90% chance of rain and low 50's as of now--who does the weather favor? Daz and White I hope!

If we are shallow at DE for the game, just go to throw back days and have #81 go both ways in the 4th quarter when OHIO has the lead and we need a few three and outs by the D.

Hope you have a great day.

We haven't lost a MAC opener since '10 when Toledo won at Peden. Since then we've beaten Kent twice, UMass and Akron. Let's make it five straight.

More concerned about LB. Best, #51 seriously injured, another a personal foul waiting to happen, another sets out significant playing time for violation of team rules. Mr. Russell, we are missing you. Someone please call me out on this. I would like to be totally wrong.

You are right there, but it's up in the air. Johnson could be healthy this week. It's hard to say how much discipline is left for Poling. Brown is talented but made some big mistakes last week. Moore apparently is out, though he played after he broke his hand last week.

There was a textbook spearing penalty by a LB last season that made me begin to wonder about their coaching. Shame to see that play continuing.

Are you really still complaining about that hit from last season? No one was hurt, it wasn't a hard hit...in fact the other player bounced back up and returned to the huddle never even asking/expecting a flag.

We don't miss Russell at all...Poling is a major upgrade.

Per Team Ratings, this is one of four games remaining where Ohio has a less than 50% chance of winning. They see Ohio's chances of a win in the remaining games as:

NIU 21.8%
BG 37.6%
Akron 45%
Buffalo 48.5%
WMU 65.1%
Ball State 70.8%
Kent 84.0%
Maimi 95.9%

http://tinyurl.com/qfwa8ob
They project Ohio to end up about 8-4. That would be winning all the home games, and winning one of four on the road.

They currently assess the chances of each team winning the MACC as:
Toledo 36.1%
NIU 21.5%
BG 9.6%
Akron 8.5%
Ohio 7.2%
Buffalo 5.2%
Others combined, about 12%

To have a reasonable chance to win the East, Ohio needs to go at least 6-2, and to do that, they will need 2 wins on the road. This is an important win as it would give Ohio one of the road wins, and importantly, a tiebreaker over Akron.

This only tells me that home team is weighed super heavily. I couldn't tell you who is the best or worst team out of Akron, WMU, and Ball State.

I dont know why everyone is so quick to write off WMU. They had a really tough schedule to start the year with MSU, at Georgia Southern (a triple-option team which will probably win the Sun Belt again), and at Ohio State. I don't know how healthy they are, but I don't expect them to lose a ton more, if any.

So the fact that this is telling me that Ohio has a better chance at beating WMU than Buffalo (an almost 17% better chance) is strange. Especially with the way Ohio was beat by WMU last year. I'm guessing the difference is between home/road games?

Yes, exactly - it's the home game factor. Whether we like it or not, the MAC is one of the more balanced leagues in the country, and almost any team could beat almost any other team. With teams this even, the home team is usually going to be favored.

I miss Russell a lot. He was a future All MAC and I don't recall him setting out half of a big game for violation of team rules. Poling is a talented athlete, no question, but, there should not be a but.....

The Russell injury speaks to my thoughts about OUr depth and numbers. For the last ten or 50 years we seem to never have enough able bodies that are of quality to win a MACC. So, while the first group tend to be pretty dog gone good, the next group ends up with a drop off in talent and playing level because of lack of talent, experience or whatever. Now if we had Poling and Russell, I think the inside linebacker situation would be in very good hands.

As for the outside backer with the late hit...wasn't there a hit out of bounds on a big play in a game by the guy last year too? You gotta have some discipline while on the FB field.

Normal conditions: Ohio 28, Akron 17

If Terry Bowden colors his hair orange again, degrading the respect his own players have for his choices: Ohio 35, Akron 14

Whatever, throw the flag. But for you to continue to bring it up a year later one would expect that it was a particularly vicious hit with the intent to hurt the other player - which it wasn't.

And now you're attacking Poling what exactly is your motive here?

Paul, aka "Loose Canon." Not sure, but, I think up until your post this was about an unnamed player missing game time for "violation of team rules." My motive is to point out team behavior that I expect the coaches to have a better handle on. What is your motive for calling out a player by name with details about his violation of team rules?

At least Paul posts under his real name, unlike you.

I imagine that Paul would state his affiliation with Ohio University (or his lack thereof) unlike you.

At least Paul sees both sides, praises and criticizes, unlike you who couldn't be more effusively, 100%, always, every time more praiseworthy if you were a paid publicist for the team.
