It costs fOSU students $304 to sit in BlockO for a full season...of football only. Makes the OZone sound like a phenomenal value.

The Few, The Proud, The Bobcats!

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.

The Post is trash.

The policy reserving the best seats for the O Zone is not new. Free tickets for all students remain... $20 if you want to sit in the front.
The only change here is enforcement requiring wristbands. How are they distributing wristbands?

I'll make two bets.
1. O Zone remains largest student group on campus.
2. Huge student attendance to start season against Marshall.

this article is just a poorly presented hypothesis that reads like a freshman assignment for an English 101 class for non-majors. Here's my attempt to summarize-

Paragraphs 1-2: In recent years Ohio's attendance has increased while bigger schools' attendance has decreased.

P3: A new policy might decrease attendance.

P4-6: For $20 a student can become a member of the O-Zone. Membership perks include a free t-shirt and a wristband that will allow you to have priority seating in the student section for football and bball games.

P7: Author suggests that charging students for premium seats won't increase student attendance or keep students in the stands after half time.

P8: Akron paid its students to attend 3 bball games last year. Not mentioned by author- Ohio's student section is larger than Akron's total attendance.

P9: Author uses veiled threat of students choosing to root for the Buckeyes instead because "forcing away potential fans because they didn't pay a fee is ludicrous.". That statement is ludicrous because it is completely false. No students are being turned away.

P10: Claims if you're not sitting up front in Peden then your seats are bad. Author has obviously never been in Peden. It's not the 'Shoe, every seat is near the field and with a clear sight line.

P11-13: Claims giving away Chic-fil-a ("a delicacy in Athens")for last year's "vital" end of the season home bball game vs BGSU was a failure because the student section was barely filled. Author fails to mention that the attendance of 5,233 was greater than the average attendance of every other team in the MAC last year. Also fails to mention that Ohio's average attendance was ranked 75th out of 351 D1 programs last year putting them in the top 21%, ahead of programs like Baylor, Texas Tech, Oregon, Arizona State, Va Tech, etc. Plus, not sure how a home game for a team that was 9-17(4-11) would be considered vital.

P14-15: Claims that only letting paying students sit in the front row will negatively impact student spirit and on the field performance. Claims that charging for front row seats means fewer people sitting in the front. Doesn't seem to understand that these aren't like season tickets, its simply priority seating. There will be no empty seats in the front.

P16-17: Closes by saying losing the fees wont make Ohio as cool as Duke or Texas A&M but charging a fee infringes on student's freedom.

God that made my head hurt.

Perimeter that was awesome. I'm sending them an e mail. Terribly presented and inaccurate.

It's The Post for cripes sake, not the NYT, WAPO or Akron Beacon Journal for that matter. Send feedback and offer differing opinion, but remember it is still a kid trying to learn the ropes.

This article is not good. In fact, it is quite bad.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the O Zone has always featured a paid membership component. The author failed to research year by year O Zone membership numbers. Is paid membership increasing each year? Declining? If it isn't declining, then precisely who is being excluded by the enforcement of this policy? This article is written from the entitled perspective of "I want the best product but I don't want to pay for it." Tough luck, chief.

Look at it from the perspective of a paid member who makes it a point to arrive early to as many games as possible. If I paid money for the privilege of the best seats in the house and Susie Sorority who goes to one game a year just so she can get a free scarf or commemorative pint glass gets a seat as good as mine, then I just paid $20 and all I got was this lousy tee shirt.

Re: last year's BG basketball game. Perhaps our dumpster fire record had something to do with poor turnout.

As a former O Zone officer, I have always been in favor of policing entry to the section. I'm interested to see if they can keep the policy enforced at Peden which seems a bit more accessible. HOWEVER, I think it would be in the best interests of everyone if event personnel relax enforcement with, say, 5-10 minutes left before tipoff/kickoff. That way, paid members have a chance to claim the best seats and non-paid members can fill in later.

I was in the first O-Zone. I'm pretty sure it cost something like $10, maybe more. Only O-Zone members could sit in the O-Zone section. I don't even understand what this guy's issue is. This policy seems common sense.

With making sure that only students that paid for a membership package get to sit in the front, not only might school spirit take a hit, but actual on-field performance might too.

I can say that with more students sitting closer to the action, the whole game’s atmosphere will become immensely better.

this just makes my head hurt. The entire premise for his criticism is based on a gross misunderstanding of what priority seating means.

But with that being said, we can have our fun with here but shouldn't take it too serious, it's a student paper.

Looks like the full cost of attendance just went up $20.
