... will be a solid victory for the Bobcats, with the defense coming up big and shutting the door on Idaho.

will be an opportunity to give game experience to new players which will keep the game closer than some would like. Player development = less impressive stats = disappointed "fan."

will demonstrate the growth and improvements in our QB's since last season and their potential for leading the team the rest of the year.

...will be a good test for the two lines. The rebuilt defensive line will need to prove that it can stop the run, keep the offensive line away from the linebackers, and get some pressure on the opposing QB. The offensive line will need to prove that it has dramatically improved from a year ago, and that it can open holes for the running backs, and protect the QB.

we will see a solid defense that wins the game and a QB rotation that will still leave unanswered questions.

I'm on board with that.

Will be disappointing whether we win or lose.

I guess I'm the only cynic here, but we barely beat Idaho at home last year and the trip to Moscow is not easy. Nor is playing in that oddball building. A loss wouldn't shock me, but I expect a narrow win, followed by talk of the apocalypse on this board.

I agree with Recovering Journalist. We will trip all over ourselves for three quarters and somehow still squeak out a win. Sort of like North Texas game.

Unless we have miraculous changes on both sides of the ball, no game this year is a gimme. I think we should win this by 10. So, it will probably be a 3-6 point victory.

I will take how Ohio "barely beat" Idaho every week. Ohio 36 points, 500+ total yards, 272 yards rushing, Ouellette for 135, held Idaho to 65 rushing yards, Vick 4 rushes for 86 yards, team averaged 5.8 per rush, Daz avg 30/KR, Poling 3 INTs, A.J. 171 all purpose, Daz 123 all purpose. About all I will ever ask of a team.

I hope we see a dominate rushing game and a dominate defensive effort. I do not believe we are going to have our QB situation all sorted out after this one, because I don't think we need to throw heavily to win this football game.

Win by 20, win by 3 or lose by any margin, there are some of this board who won't be happy. There are some on this board who wouldn't be happy if we won the national championship. This is not surprising, as us winning the national championship would mean that Ohio State did not win the national championship.

I'm sure chat will be filled with hope, as always.

...will once again see us suffer an inordinate amount of dehydration due to playing indoors (and at altitude in the high desert climate), because we always seem to not be able to get that right.

As for results:

-Still no answer at QB, which will at some point in the season lead to BtC claiming I am wishing one of the QB's will get hurt in a game.

-Idaho comes out totally jacked up, keeps it close in the first half, and eventually makes a bunch of dumb turnovers and commits a load of dumb personal fouls.

-We bore the hell out of the fan base on offense with a 65% run/35% pass play mix, and have two rushers go for over 150 yards, and gain 400 yards total. (perhaps the QB's combine for 150 yards total)

-We have at least one special team score.

-Defense earns 6+ sacks, but the secondary gives up over 300 yards passing.

-Good Guys win 37-17.

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.

Will be an unexpectedly tough game and Ohio will be fortunate to win.

Count me in with SBH and Recovering Journalist. I see Ohio winning but I just don't see Ohio being that good that it can travel across the country and just dominate the home team, a team that's in a conference probably as good as the MAC. I think the loss of Mangen hurts. I'm normally wrong in making predictions so we'll see.

...may be affected by the wildfire situation out there. Not only are there wildfires in the Moscow area, the smoke and ash from all the fires may make air travel to Idaho difficult (think the Iceland volcanoes a few years ago). The northern half of the state -- and most of the Pacific Northwest -- is under an air quality alert because of the smoke. Not a good situation at all. There's a slight chance of showers each day for the next week, but the big help might be cooler weather (back into the 70s) next week.

It's a really good point: Unhappiness with our play--irrespective of whether deserved or not--is wrong.

Thank you for your intolerance.

And apparent lack of objectivity.

The defense will play well but give up some big plays. College football is dominated by the offense. We win 33-30 in a game that is close at half and at the end, but one where we lead by 17 in the 2nd half.

I'll be disappointed if Idaho hangs 30 on us. We only gave up 30 to Marshall, BG and WMU last year. With as many starters as we bring back, and our ability to chew clock on offense, I'm hoping that number drops from 3.

Idaho's offense does figure to be better though and they threw for 353 against us last year.

We're thin at TE, not definite at qb yet, no returning receiver who's clearly a threat at any moment but our running game looks to be solid...Won't Idaho stack to stop our running?

Why yes, Monroe. Yes they will. That's basic football like debits and credits is basic accounting. If Idaho doesn't feel at least a little bit threatened by the passing game, they'll stack the box and stop whomever is running the ball.

The QB has to make plays when they matter. It doesn't even have to be a monster 300 yard performance. Just make the basic throws and keep the defense guessing and don't make mistakes. That's all that Ohio needs to get this one done.

Yes they will stack the box. Film study from last year; rushing Ouellette 135 yds, Vick/Sprague 14/131 @ 9 yds/c, Vick 4/86. However, passing Sprague/Vick combined for 12/19 or 63% to these same receivers, minus Chase. We all worry, though, mine are for the health of Reid & Cope. Brunis, Brown, Marhefka & Walker need to play this game anyway.

Both Vick and Sprague played against Idaho last year. Idaho's defense treated them as enough of a threat then that our walk-on freshman running back was able to run for 132 yards. We return multiple running backs, including the starter. We return our entire starting offensive line. We return our best run-blocking offensive lineman who missed last year with an injury. Our starting TE who transferred in is best known for his run-blocking.

We had 272 yards on the ground last year. What is Monroe's Total Rushing over/under for this game???

A coach who is blaming negative stories in the media for his team's underwhelming performance is a coach who is in over his head (ask any Reds fan about that).

A team who has to deal with the drama surrounding said media blame, as well as the fallout from some shoplifting, is a team that is focused on things other than football.

The back 7 of the D has been looking impressive, at least to Arkley, who is the primary source we have for team development. Idaho throws first and runs second. Advantage Bobcat defense.

We ought to be able to run the ball effectively, so as long as we avoid stupid penalties and turnovers, we ought to be able to get yards. The only question is whether we score touchdowns or field goals. Red zone effectiveness has been a point of focus by the coaches, so being high on green Kool-Aid, let's assume TDs get scored.

The trip, with the resulting late start, is our biggest disadvantage.

I am calling a 14-17 point win, with solid D and a promising run game. Two players go over 100 yards on the ground. Both QBs play well but not perfect (Vick starts, Sprague gets the 2nd quarter, they split the 3rd quarter, and Windham gets most of the 4th quarter). We go +2 on turnovers, with 1 INT and zero fumbles by the RBs. Idaho makes some noise late but the game is out of reach by that point.
