How Dave Brandon became the AD of probably one of the most powerful athletic programs is beyond me. The fact that he even proposed the idea Michigan and OSU don't play every year is just insane. The real reason I wanted to post this was the part about attendance numbers. As if we needed further proof that the number is just made up, check this out: "Astute fans have often wondered if the official attendance records are actually accurate, especially Michigan's, since they claimed to still have 100,000+ in the stadium for every game during the Rodriguez and Hoke eras. That skepticism is well-founded. Bacon reports that during the 2014 Michigan/Miami (OH) game, only 87,608 tickets were sold, and even when you add in the glut of tickets that Michigan gave away, it only added up to 97,751. Michigan reported attendance of 102,824 for that game. Only 83,268 fans paid to watch Michigan take on Maryland that year as well." An almost 20,0000 in person attendance increase compared to tickets sold? And 10,000 of that actually did show up because of free tickets? He essentially turned hiring decisions on coaches and staff over to HR, and they have had issues where coaches have not been able to hire staff (coaching and support) because HR had a "better" candidate. He also created an entire level of bureaucracy that made access to the AD almost impossible. Hey, people say we need to run colleges like a business, and that's exactly what he did, turned U of M into a corporate culture that forgot that it's really about the people. I always thought that the Rich Rodriguez hire was fantastic, but the administration never supported what he was trying to do there. Add that to the fact that fans and alums hated that he wasn't a "Michigan Man" and you get what you got for three years. Compare that to what he's done at Arizona. He was the perfect man for the job if only they would have embraced the change. I always thought Michigan was stuck in a rut under Lloyd Carr and just needed a jolt like Rodriguez to get them out of it. Problem is, they turned that jolt into a train wreck. And the Hoke hire was just grasping at straws before the bottom came out. You can't win games just by clapping your hands and wearing t-shirts in the snow. Sure that might pump up your guys, but if they don't know what they're doing it doesn't matter.
