The game starts at 3:30 ET (2:30 CT). http://www.gophersports.com/sports/m-footbl/sched/minn-m-...

Haven't seen which network it will be assigned to, but I think we'll likely be on BTN (which runs three channels) or maybe ESPNU/News. B10 games on 9/26 that are most likely to be on ESPN are Kansas-Rutgers (noon ET), BYU-Mich, Indiana-WF, Maryland-WVU, WMU-O$U and BG-Purdue. The other games -- Southern Miss-Neb (noon ET), CMU-MSU, Middle Tenn-Ill, NTexas-Iowa, San Diego St-PSU -- will likely be BTN. BSU-NW and Hawaii-Wis are 8 pm games on BTN.

We will get by.

I love that a program that hasn't won a conference title since 1967 has a message board named "7 National Titles Football Forum" to remind everyone that before WWII the Gophers were one heck of a football program. Or as their Wikipedia page says under the section titled Glory Years- "The Gophers enjoyed quite a bit of success in the early 20th century, posting winning records from 1900 to 1919."

You mean kinda like how Ohio football celebrates the recent successes between 2006-present?

Who cares? They've won national titles.

Yeah, can't fault them for taking pride in their past.

Speaking of... Why don't we ever really talk about our "College Division" National Title from the 60's? I would think that would be something to display in the stadium somewhere! Is it because we actually lost the bowl game that year?

Agreed.

I motion for the football board on bobcatattack to be renamed the 1960 College Division National Championship football board.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Yeah, there's just something about a message board being titled after national titles before WWII that just seems like a stretch.

As a Cub fan I can appreciate that way of thinking. And, my mother was a student at Minnesota back in those glory days, and I remember her telling me about the Golden Gophers of yore. Interesting, until fairly recently the term "Golden Gophers" was reserved for the teams of the 1930s. Later teams were just called the Gophers. Now, with football grade inflation and everyone-gets-a-trophy mentality they use it to refer to the current teams.

How many Gopher fans does it take to change a light bulb?
None. They just sit in the dark and talk about how great it was before electricity.

there's being proud of your history, and then there's naming a website after some stuff that happened a half century before Al Gore invented the interwebs.

Wasn't that about the time that we last beat a MAC team (and the MAC is a tree-mendous conference) with a winning record?

We hardly have cause to look down your nose at Minne.

Y'know why they chose our game as their homecoming? I can think of two reasons, neither of which is complimentary to us.

The logistical reason is that they don't have another home game until 10/17, which is kind of late for homecoming, and it's vs Neb, which is too good of a team for a homecoming opponent. They have a bona fide patsy in Kent the week before us (9/19) but that's probably too early for homecoming. It's mostly a matter of timing. If either of their next two games -- Purdue and NW -- was a home game, that would likely have been their homecoming. When this game was scheduled we were in the middle of our five-year bowl run so I don't think they expected us to be a homecoming opponent.

Pataskala, I admire your attempts to be logical with Monore, but I can assure you it's a futile endeavor. How about the next time he posts an original thought, we start giving him rational responses. Until then, just realize that Monroe considers us an irredeemably poor team that will never reach its potential until the current coaching staff is replaced by one that runs a surprise play every other time the ball is hiked and has refrigerator-sized TEs and goal-line RBs. In other words, don't be rational or say anything tinged with optimism or you are a Frank apologists who should be sent to the Gulag of Football Irrelevance.

Bonfide "patsy" with Kent? You care to check our record v Kent in the past 10-12 years?

I must have missed the part where we also named our message board "5 MAC Titles Football Forum", because if we didn't then your analogy doesn't work.

You want two reasons why we're their homecoming game? Because we're not Nebraska and we're not Kent State. Does it hurt your feelings to know that MN doesn't view our program as an equal to Nebraska? Does it? It must, otherwise you're just complaining for the sake of complaining.

While Kent has been a special problem for Ohio the last 10 years (they are 5-5), when viewed from the perspective of a P5 team, Kent has done a much better job of being a patsy. Ohio has won 19% of their games against P5 teams, and has stayed within two TDs half of the time. Kent has won only 9.5%, and has lost by > two TDs 86% of the time.

Yeah, I learned a long time ago not to let Monroe's arguments control the conversation.

Add to it that Kent has had one winning season and one .500 season since 2001 and they haven't done much better in the MAC.

You can get angry with me all you want. I'm not sure that helps anyone or that it's rational or that it's a logical response to our recent football performance.

I wasn't the one who started the chiding of Minne for clinging to its long ago past. But when the quality of legacy vs. what a team has to offer now was brought up, I did put a spotlight on our recent history. I know--Shocking that I'd turn the spotlight on OHIO on an OHIO board.

While we may have faired better than kents against P5 recently, kents has had our number in recent years, has as many MAC titles over the last 40 years as we have, and has been to the MAC title game more recently than we have.

I'm just not sure I'd call a team that I was .500 against, a patsy.

I'm not the one that called them a patsy, but my point was that using Ohio's point of view is wrong for this particular issue. The correct point of view is from Minnesota's perspective. IF Minnesota was looking for a patsy for homecoming, which team would they pick?

I never said or allueded that you did call them a patsy, however you are trying to justify the earlier post that Kent is more of a patsy than us. And they may be to other teams, but they've been a legitimate handful for the Cats over the past 10 years.
