This is great news and has great potential. Will be able to stick our non-qualifiers and transfers there to get eligible/degree and no one will ever find them but us.

The economics of JUCO football have always been a mystery to me. Game attendance has to be small, so there can't be much revenue there. There is no TV. You don't get much advertising from it. And, on the expense side, you've got expenses for coaches, facilities, travel, and scholarships.

Why would anyone do it?

well in this case the coaches are all volunteer, there are no scholarships, a donated facility. So there you have it, JUCO football Hocking Hills style ;-)

I think it's only appropriate that they are named the Hocking Loogies

Given the economic turmoil of mass layoffs, salary reductions, and program restructuring at Hocking, I wonder what they think the ROI will be to add athletics. No one goes to JUCO games.

Reminds me of the first time my wife and I arrived in Flagstaff, AZ. We decided to walk the campus of Northern Arizona. As we neared the campus bookstore, we found ourselves gazing up at a huge statue of - a lumberjack. Right, the NAU Lumberjacks. Yep, northern AZ is or was major lumber country.

According to their press release they are budgeting $260K and expecting revenues of $1.1 Million, now are they counting tuition from new enrollees as revenue?

For lack of better term, 'tourism' may be their thinking. With JUCO prospects comes D1 recruiters that stay is hotels, dine at restaurants, fill up their gas tanks, etc. ANY tax revenue created for that area will be a plus.

You know what Frank Solich likes most about coaching in the MAC? While he gets older, his coaching competition stays the same age, man.

Well, they probably need all the gas station revenue they can get. I drove through Nelsonville recently -- actually I was going to a meeting at Rocky Boots -- for the first time in about a year and two of the gas stations on Canal Street are now closed. I guess the bypass did them in.

Let's be honest here, what caliber of JUCO player will attend Hocking College (High end, real prospect) if they are paying their own way???? Now, this does have advantages for a lot of kids who want to still play, get a vocational education or get the basics without the high cost of a liberal arts DIII school. But DI recruitment will be a ways down the road and a bit more of a committment than currently.

I mean, hell they are using as their recruiting site the same site you would register your child for a pee wee football league. ;-)

Going to be tough for them initially but if the MAC schools and especially Ohio can get a few prospects in there it will be successful. Most of these kids "committing" right now are at best D3 talent. If the coach is any good he will try and get a handful of elite guys who slipped through the cracks.

The coach is also the chief of police and the AD, he may have a bit on his plate

Suspect he'll be a no-nonsense kind of coach. Get out of line and out come the handcuffs! ;-)

Because Hocking isn't a big enough of a circus right now, one of the Steubenville rapists will suit up for them.

He was 17 and served his time then graduating with honors. I would say a place like Hocking College would be his only shot. Statistics say that if juveniles who commit sexual crimes are caught and rehabilitated they rarely if every recommit. I'm pretty sure he is under strict protocols.

I spoke with the Offensive Coord and Ohio coaches are slow to jump on board. They attempting to meet with Coach Dixon. However Marshall,Akron,BGSU,Wisc,Mich State,Cenn Michigan have already sent kids to Hocking and established a relationship with the coaches.

He's not even allowed to live on campus. Be it right or not, anything involved with that case will draw negative publicity (moreso from those hilljacks trying to cover it up than the offense itself). I fully get that he did his time and graduated, and he has the right to continue his education, that's just a lot of baggage for quite possibly the last college in the state that needs it.

So you are saying we are freely allowing others to set up shop in our back yard, and we are not taking advantage?
