Interesting - 9 guys with 10 or more catches. The question is can one of these guys become a big time dominant go to receiver this year?

There are some interesting numbers there. Some random thoughts:
1. Dixon had 100% catches on targets, and led the team in yards per target. I guess the other teams figured that since he was a walkon, they didn't need to cover him? ;)
2. Only one throw to Mason Morgan, and none to any of the other tight ends except Mangen? I know that the other teams didn't respect our running game, and that kind of takes the Tight Ends out of the offense, but that surprises me.
3. Daz seems to drop more passes than the other running backs, but gains bigger yardage when he does catch it. The numbers confirm that. If they can improve his catch rate, he could become a bigger receiving threat.
4. Cope, Reid, and S. Smith all posted some very good numbers, and will probably be the primary WR next year.

Not sure how you can calculate a catch rate from this. This doesn't show uncatchable balls.

The catch rate simply is the times a player caught a ball targeted for him, regardless if it was a "catchable" ball. You are right that it would be a better statistic if drops were included, but there would be no way to find that info simply by going through the play-by-play.

I really like some of these guys. And yes they can be go-to.

Cope and Smith for sure. These two go get the ball.

Yes, my man Cope. I'm predicting big things for him next fall. And, on the ground, look for Mr. Irons to be an ironman smashing through the opponents line.

IMHO, Reid has the best upside of all the receivers.

I'd like to see Robbie Walker get more receptions with room to run...

Sadly, I wonder how many of Cochrans attempts were thrown short. Someone mentioned in a different post, who would replace his speed. Honestly, his speed was never a factor in a game. Way way way too many of the balls thrown to him were short or he had to slow down or stop to catch them. Imagine what could have been.
I believe this years group of WR's will be very very successful. I expect S.Smith and Cope to put of ridiculous numbers if given the chance. Not trying to discount the others.. However, if Smith draws the same amount of double coverage Cochran did last year then we will need for someone else to step up.

If you look at the stats, the area where the losses will hurt the most is in the area of the clutch catches on passing downs, (3d and 10, etc). The departed group, Cochran, Bradley, and Landon Smith will be missed here, as they combined for a 57% catch rate and 9.3 yards/target.

The one returning wide receiver with excellent numbers on passing downs was Jordan Reid. He was actually the most targeted player last year on passing downs, and performed well, with a team high 16 catches on passing downs, a 70% catch rate, and had 8.4 yards/target. By contrast, the other returning players need to step it up this year. Sebastian Smith, Cope, Brunis, and Walker combined for a 34% catch rate and 3.6 yards/target.

Mangen and OUellette also were productive in passing downs, by the way. Mangen had a 58% catch rate for 5.3 yards/target, while AJ had an 80% catch rate and 9.4 yards/target.
