Well, he ain't come here to play no school . . . but I think he has to play school a little bit longer before the NFL will come a calling. ;-)

I know next to nothing about him, but isn't he a redshirt sophomore? Making him draft eligible (3 years out of HS). I would not be surprised at all to see him go pro, and a team burn a mid-round pick on him.

They don't call him "12 gauge" for nothing. Kid has an NFL body and an NFL arm and "playing school" for 1 or 2 more years ain't going to change that.

Bye, bye, Cardale, hello J.T. The only real question left is whether Miller comes back to fight for .... what? I see a kind of lose - lose (or is it loose - loose) scenario for Buckeye QBs next year. If Columbus isn't the "what have you done for me lately" capital of America, it is certainly the summer home of it.

It's kind of funny that he is quoted as saying that is top priority is getting his degree.

I would be ecstatic if the Browns drafted Cardale Jones, except I wouldn't waste a 1st Round pick on him, maybe the top of the 3rd Round, somewhere around there.

Problem is, as much as it pains me to say it, the Browns are where quarterbacks go to die, so if Jones is drafted by the Browns he's screwed.

Article pretty much lays it out:

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/3rd-string-ohio-state-quart...

If he can be a 3rd round pick - even 4th round, there is no reason for him to stay at OSU. With the new bargaining agreement, the key is to get to the 2nd contract as soon as possible. Sitting in school wastes a contract year (or two) for him.

In addition, he is 22 and may even be 23 by the time the draft takes place. Waiting two years and banking on a bigger initial contract is a gamble when you will be 25. As for a degree, I hope he earns one. It's manageable to finish it up over time in the off season -- especially if his academic progress is on track.

One of the radio shows this morning suggested he transfer to a solid FCS(D1AA?) school, play next year and gain the needed experience to improve his standing with the NFL scouts. If drafted in the top 15 in the 2016 draft, it would mean $10M+ rookie contract versus a 2015 3rd round contract at $800K. He needs to declare for NFL draft by Wednesday. Or, he could take some time, even drop out and enroll in summertime if he were to transfer to, say a Delaware or James Madison. Or he can remain a Buckeye and compete. While not a Buckeye fan, I have enjoyed watching him play.

This article provides a good overview of the rookie contract situation. The real difference is in the guaranteed money.

Tough to say stay when he is not even close to assured to be the starter.

According the Dispatch this morning Mr. Play School feels he's not ready for the NFL, and won't enter the draft. Urban punted and said he'd try to sort out the QB mess after he had given himself sufficient time to enjoy the win last night.

Nice troll. I love the concept of this thread. He's not good enough to earn the starting job at OSU next year, but he's good to go in Cleveland?

Yeah, it is a little ridiculous to think the Browns, of all teams, would spend a late first round draft pick on an over-hyped QB **cough**Brady Quinn**cough cough**Johnny Manziel**cough**

Did I just hear that the deadline to declare is tomorrow? Playing the Championship game this late in the winter works against Jones in this case. That's a lot to evaluate in 2 days. I'll still be surprised if he sticks around. Many before him who have less talent traded a scholie for a less than sure shot. When Meyer talks I hear subtle urges for somebody, anybody to leave A&M.

Maybe he's grown up.

I think that's right. He could declare for the supplemental draft after tomorrow. I think another thing he could do is declare but not hire an agent, and then withdraw if he decides against it.

I think I'd declare if I was him. I don't see how his stock is ever higher than it is right now. He'd have to beat out Barret (who I have to believe is still the presumptive starter), who is a year younger than him, and have a full season of games like the last three. That seems much less likely to me than selling an NFL team on, "This guy is so good, he can come off the bench and dominate 3 top college defenses, including a Nick Saban defense. Just imagine what he can do when you're able to work with him for 6 months!"

Time will tell. Let him be judged by his actions, not rhetoric.
