Has anyone begun projecting a 2015 depth chart?

There aren't many people gone, so I don't imagine it will be much different than this year. I'll try to make one, though.

I believe Monroe has a year of eligibility left and is asking the NCAA for a waiver to play FB for a year! ;-)

Speaking of eligibility..Miami got some great play out of a basketball point guard at db this season.

I always thought basketballs Ric Johnson who was lost for last season looked like he had a body of a football player--I wonder if any of the football coaches ever talked to him about giving the pads a try--I could be wrong, he couldn't play basketball again but he might have had a season of football still available. Put that experience covering guys, speed and leaping ability to work as an OHIO db and he may have given the Miami guy a run as the top 2-sporter!

It does happen. I saw a guy make a move from power forward to tight end his senior year, and then get drafted. He played 5 years for the Jets, then became a movie star.

Also William Johnson is apparently gone.

Next, add back those that were out with injury, such as Quallen, Gibbons, WHite, Boland, Everhart, Wood, and Stephens.

I am working from the Official Roster. Johnson is already gone and the others listed still remain.

Kendric Smith will be missed more than you think. Seemed to be our most effective D-end.

Did Carpenter lose his appeal for a 6th year?

Of course, we're all familiar with Antonio Gates, who was a all-MAC performer in basketball and a current offensive star in the NFL. Can you name another former All-MAC basketball player now playing in the NFL?

I don't think we'll hear for awhile. In any case, even if they grant the 6th year, the question remains whether his health will allow him to play next fall. Therefore I'd do the same as Bcat2, and not count him for now.

I would love to add him back to the roster. However, think I will wait for something to appear about his status.

Carpenter, Carrie, Russell, Tremayne, Beau, Kristoff, Cochran, Herman, Crutch, Waters, Branz .... You know, at Ohio coach has been able to recruit young men who might become coaches.

Oh, fair points, and I don't disagree. I wasn't expecting it for a while either, but I saw Brandon Doughty at WKU got his 6th year granted yesterday (Marshall fans I know weren't happy about it), so I thought maybe there was news that I missed.

I do think a fair portion of our secondary's growing pains this season was due to his absence. Carpenter isn't the most gifted athlete, but you can tell by the way he plays that he understands the game. He's been one of my favorite Bobcats the past couple seasons, and I really hope he gets to suit up again.

I don't disagree. The funny thing was, going in, Safety looked like it would be the deepest position on the roster, what with them combining the nickle back into the safety position. So, you combined Carpenter, Scipio, and Devin Jones from the nickle spot with Kristoff, Ingol, and Quallen at Safety, you have six solid guys for two positions. In fact, it was so deep they moved Alexander to OLB. Next thing you know, you're down to 4th string, and playing Macer and Toran Davis. Even 4 deep, I thought the safeties did a fine job.

What happened to Devin Jones at the end of the year? He came back briefly and then disappeared for Miami.

IMO, Jones is our best safety and when he's on the field you see a noticeable difference in the quality of our DB play. If he and Ian Wells can stay on the field for most of next year we are in good shape.

Did Carpenter participate in Senior Night? I'm guessing he didn't. It also seems he certainly meets the criteria to get another year, but it is true that you never can say for sure until the approval comes down.

I'm fairly sure Carpenter will get approved, but less sure that he will actually be able to play.

Well, you asked for it, here's a way-too-early depth chart, which doesn't take into account any of the 2015 recruits. Note that I have no idea on the wide receivers, especially at WR/F, so no way this is right:

LT - McQueen RSr, Lowery So, Dudziak RFr
LG - Lucas RSr, Everhart RJr, Adams RSo
C - Powell RSr, Pruehs So
RG - Wood RSo, Gibbons RJr, Langenkamp RFr.
RT - Watson RJr, McCray So, Murdock RSo
TE - Mangen Jr, Morgan RSo, Boland RJr, Henry RJr
QB - Vick RSr, Sprague RJr, Windham RJr, Duckworth RFr
RB - Ouellette So, Patterson Sr, Brown RSo, White RFr, Irons RFr
WR/F - Dixon RSr, Sawyer RSr, J.Brown RSo, Meyer RFr
WR/X - S.Smith Jr, Walker So, Brunis So
WR/Z - Cope RSo, Reid RJr, Wilson RJr

DE - Basham Jr, Laseak RJr, Berger RFr
DE - Sayles Jr, Smart RSo, Freuauf RFr
NG - Tautuaiki SR, Aloese RSo
DT - Purdum RSr, Porter RSo, Kuhar RFr
MLB - Poling RSo, Grillot RSo, Dicillo RFr, Makuch RJr
WLB - B Brown RJr, C Moore RSo, Donovan RJr
SLB - Johnson RSr, Daugherty RSo, Alexander RSo
CB - Layton Sr, Bass RSr, Brunson So, Terpin RSr
CB - Wells RSr, Nelson So, Fox RFr, Gunnels RFr
SS - Scipio RJr, Quallen RSo, Macer RSr
FS - Jones RSr, T. Davis R Jr, Cunningham RSo

K - Yazdani RSr, Amicone RJr, Green RSr, Royster Fr
P - Bonnstetter Sr, Venham RJr
LS - Chapman RSr, Shaffer RSo

I'm sure that the above has some serious issues. Have at it. ;)

This will be a much more experienced team than 2014:
LT - McQueen RSr - 20 starts in the last 2 years
LG - Lucas RSr - 24 starts in last 2 years
C - Powell RSr - 23 starts in last 2 years, + Pruehs - 11 starts
LG - Wood RSo -3 starts last year + Gibbons RJr 2 starts
RT - Watson RJr- 15 starts
TE - Mangen Jr - 13 starts last 2 years + Morgan 2 starts
QB - Vick RSr - 8 career starts + Sprauge 5 starts
RB - Ouellette So - 6 starts + Patterson Sr 7 starts
WR - S. Smith 6 starts, Cope 7 starts, Reid 1 start, Walker 2 starts

DE - Basham Jr - 10 starts + Laseak 12 starts
DE - Sayles Jr - 8 starts
NG - Tautuaiki SR - no starts
DT - Purdum RSr - starter in 2012, plus 9 starts last two years
MLB - Poling RSo - 12 starts
WLB - B Brown RJr - 7 starts + C Moore RSo 3 starts
SLB - Johnson RSr - 16 starts + Alexander RSo 1 start
CB - Layton Sr - 3 starts + Bass RSr 18 starts last 2 years, plus 2012
CB - Wells RSr - 15 starts last two years, plus 2012
SS - Scipio RJr may have started some in 2012
FS - Jones RSr - 7 starts + T. Davis R Jr 2 starts

That's an average of about 13 starts per position. With this much returning experience, I think this team should be comparable to the 2009-12 teams.

I feel that most of the positions are pretty solid. QB, we all know the issues, and hope that Vick has no more knee issues. Other than that, NG is my biggest question mark.

LOL, I have no idea what order these will be in by the end of the year. There are some good backs there. I hope they can find a way to get two on the field at at time sometimes.

My guess was he re-injured himself.

A very strong couple years of offensive line developing here. The backups to the group of starters you listed got a ton of snaps/starts this year.

I never had a complaint with Lightner, but he certainly didn't leave a full cupboard behind.

I definitely agree with you, though. OL looks solid in the future. The same can be said of DE, TE, LB, WR, and RB. All appear to be solid for at least the next few year. QB, CB, and DT are the places that are more of a mystery, where recruits will definitely need to add depth.
