Ughhh, I hate this logic. Conferences should strive for a small and concentrated footprint, not a massive patchy one. Regional/border rivalries are the BEST thing for a conference, especially a mid-major conference that isn't going to suddenly get widespread interest and media coverage 6 states away from its core because they add a random member.

I'd welcome YSU over 3-4 current MAC members.

I've had the same thought. I'd say throw Stanford in too, but it would be on an island out there unless you added a school like BYU in the mix as well.

But yeah, a conference of something like Northwestern, Vandy, Duke, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Air Force, Army, Navy, BYU, Stanford, Georgia Tech, and Wake.

I think it could be argued YSU is a upgrade in all areas over Akron other then the stadium.

Stambaugh Stadium isn't horrible, it's just kind of goofy since they built one gigantic set of seating on one side (they finally added some on the other side like 15 years ago). They've generally kept up on it, and it was only opened in '82.

Currently, it's not all that different from Dix Stadium (before their upgrades) IMO

I've been to YSU to watch a game and it is a fine stadium to watch a game. Once again better then some current MAC stadiums, ones that are in urgent need of repair.

Youngstown St is repeating the Akron expansion mistake all over again only worse.

What's Pelini's position on player tattoos? ;-) Inquiring minds want to know.

They were desperate enough to hire Tressel as their president...so I would say yes.

Case Western is an excellent university with an outstanding reputation. They really aren't much smaller than Northwestern.

FWIW, Western Reserve was a charter member of the MAC in 1947 and dropped out in 1955.

Agree with this. With the gap between the Power 5 and the Group of Five presumably growing with each passing season, it's more imperative that Group of Five Conferences cut costs where they can. If the MAC can grow their current base and not have to take a plane to get there, I am all for it. YSU would be a great addition in my eyes if simply just to add more State of Ohio fuel to the fire.

And since when does the MAC give a rip about academics? I didn't realize that was a huge priority for the conference.

Youngstown State is going to win FCS quickly. They have a president who thinks NCAA rules are more like suggestions, and no academic reputation to worry about.

The folks who think the MAC should add YSU are scaring me. Please no....

This has already been done. UAA members truly put academics before athletics.

The NCAC does as well. That is why schools like Kenyon, Denison, Wooster, Oberlin and Ohio Wesleyan(the Ohio 5)left the OAC back in the 80's.

I think YSU is certainly on the right track in regards to making an impact regionally. Some on this board hate Tressel, but I would've loved for him to be involved with OU in some way shape or form. This board always complains about NCAA rules when they negatively hurt OU(Kaminski, Solich DUI, ETC), but crush tressel for it.

There will certainly be some recruiting ramifications from this, whether they be here in Ohio or in Nebraska. Even if YSU doesn't move to FBS, they will almost certainly become a top tier program in FCS.

Now the latest rumor. Since Bo isn't going to Pitt who is? Well the Marshall folks are getting nervous because it looks like their coach has contacted them to tell them he'd like the job.

Bo Pelini in the news again, for comments he made to his players after being terminated.

I find it just as interesting that some who hate or feel strongly about Tressel and yet show a loyalty to Bo because of his ties to Frank. Bo has just as many and more ties with Jim.

As I contended when this went down (actually before), that this move was not all about winning, Bo was his own worse enemy. I feel for a guy like AE who now has to find employment.

I'm having second thoughts on Bo now. His comments about support form the previous and new ad's and Tress knowing what needs to be done to win tell us a lot about Bo, Tress, YSU and A&M.

Choices. Very likely AE could have returned to Ohio with the last shuffle of staff. Choices. However, AE is solid and should land on his feet. I do hope he tries for the new staff being assembled at Wisconsin. His Nebraska time might mean something there.
