I mean can we really still care when they don't? I'm not sure they folks over at Miami even care about their teams, let alone us.

I know it doesn't help that the teams are never good or even decent at the same time. But honestly, more people get pumped to play 'Kron in basketball then we do to play Miami in anything. Although listening to people yell Muck Fiami at homecoming even though we're playing BG was funny.

That we've risen up in the MAC the last 10 years by beating Miami down says they are important.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

Besides maybe Cincy, I doubt that Fiami cares about beating anybody, and they probably don't care about any of their teams except hockey. Their focus is on hockey because, let's face it, that's the only thing they've been consistently good at for the past 30 years or so. Back in the '70s our top three rivals were Fiami, BG and Toledo, probably in that order. But now, if the main criterion is that both sides care, I'd say it's probably BG, Akron and Buffalo, at least for football. But still, from my perspective, wins are sweeter and losses harder to take vs Fiami.

It's M%$#& for me. Season in and season out, year after year, they come closest to being a yardstick for OU than any other program I can think of.

And if the rationale for discrediting them is OUr "dominance" recently, then your memory just isn't as long as mine.

Put it this way:

No other team we play has a thread that's lasted years specifically centered around how much they suck.

Why is this even a question?

I think we can all agree that even if Miami was not our rival, they would still suck.

Summary: If a tree falls in a forest, but there are no Bobcats in that forest, Miami still sucks.

It's a conversation had over and over again in recent years. The average OU Alumni and fan still talks about Miami as our biggest rival. For people who actually pay attention to the teams a little, I don't think they are.

In football, I think it's Marshall, and I don't think it's even a debate. In hoops, over the last 5-6 years, the biggest rival for me HAS to be Akron, or maybe Buffalo.

And I am sure Miami fans were saying the asame thing after they had beaten us 10-20 times in a row during the wilderness years.

I do compare the rivalry to UC and Louisville which I thought would always be there. With Conference switches, things change. But, within the MAC, I think they are still #1.

This has nothing to do with our record against them in football...recent or otherwise.

Again, like I said in my post - part of the problem may be that neither school has been good in football at the same time. However, go google OU vs Miami sometime, you'll see a bunch of videos from and articles about how much we hate them...and one article from them saying they really don't care.

So again...if they don't care, can we?

Look, I don't mean to discredit otherwise 100% reliable internet search results, but Google isn't the yardstick I use. Maybe it just means that M^%$# grads haven't figured out how to use the internet yet; or type; or record videos; or they just suck at all of the above.

I've stopped caring about Miami. After Temple left, BG is our main football competition in the East. That's the team we should be dying to beat...not Miami. Marshall was a nice run too...but that appears to be over for a while.

But yeah...I don't care much about Miami anymore. Just another game.

Paul. I must remind you of the team's final game this season. It was not just another game. Come from behind. Last play win. Sure Bowling Green is the current team to beat, but, Miami need remain the rival. There is a difference.

Agree 100 %.To me a rival is the team you want to beat, preferably badly, whenever you play them in anything.

For those people who think rivalry is based on competitiveness look at Army/Navy or Mich./OSU.

Maybe I'm not being clear.

Let me try asking this way.

If OU is the only side that seems to care, is it a rivalry?

There are a number of disputed games from the early years. In some cases Ohio claims they won a game that there is no other record of having been played. In other cases Ohio claims a win, and the other team also claims to have won. The numbers above came from a an independent database, not Ohio's database.

I'll try to rephrase as well because it may be semantics getting in the way.

I enjoy seeing OU kick M%$#^'s ass so much, I don't care what anyone associated with M%$#^ thinks, especially when they are getting their ass kicked by OU.

I let my gut tell me who is Ohio's biggest rival. And perennially my gut tells me it is Miami. I just plain care more about beating Miami than any other opponent.

That gut feeling goes back to my student days. Prior to Miami visiting Peden the Redskins had beaten Purdue. A strong following of Miami fans came to Peden. Early in the game, they were chanting something that bragged about having beaten Purdue.

Late in the game when it was clear that Ohio would win, Ohio fans began chanting something like "So you beat Purdue. Now how do you like OU?"

Well, in that case we should add 40-50 W's to our record.

Hey, that could be a way to get us a recent MACC as we all want.

For instance when #24 Tommy Freeman hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to beat redhawk in The Convo--there was nothing wrong with that at all.

It wouldn't help much if all the wins were between 1896 and 1898. ;) Here are the three games that seem to be in some dispute:

1. In 1896, Marietta claims two wins over Ohio, while Ohio only shows one loss to them. The disputed games supposedly took place on 11-13-1896, and Marietta claims a 22-6 win.

2. In 1898 Ohio shows a 12-12 tie to UC. UC also shows a 12-12 tie. Some databases show this as a 12-0 UC win. UC did beat Ohio 12-0 in 1896, which may be the source of the confusion.

3. Some databases do not include the 1897 Ohio win over the Deaf and Dumb Institute.
