We used to say Yappies vs. Yuppies. Anyone else remember that term?

I'll also say that there are few on this board, except oldkatz, myself, Casper, fansince49, and a few others -- who actually were at some point hippies or at least conversed with a real live, 1960s hippie. Today's hippies are what in terms of the time were called "plastic hippies."

Now, those folks in Oxford are the worst of whatever they are, and OHIO is the best. Of that there can be no doubt.

Sometimes even called yarpies...and yep, I was and did.

Side note: some of the marketing/sports info kids were taking bets an whether some old guy announcer would either self immolate, have a brain explosion, choke on the words, or simply just walk away from the mike before the announcement if the redhawkskins would have been awarded the MAC championship v-ball trophy last night. Our new momentary best friends from Western helped a brother out so the scenario was never presented.

Drunkards vs. D***heads

First time I ever went to Oxford, the first guy I see on the street was wearing 4 polo shirts. Every collar was popped.

I really thought the stories were exaggerations. NOPE!

Would your description include my occasional conversations in the early 70's with the guy whose denim jacket said "U R 2" on the back? He somehow knew and took ownership of the fact that everyone who saw him uptown was saying "Man, is he f***** up!" BTW, those "plastic hippies" still around in those days we just referred to as "freaks".

I'm sorry that there is a little generational term drift here. In the 1960s a "plastic hippie" was someone who dressed like a hippie, talked like a hippie and acted like a hippie in outward ways, but did not live the hippie lifestyle and was in secret a sellout to those over-30 folks who were part of the military-industrial complex or otherwise a part of mainstream society. Remember, don't trust anyone over 30 was a mantra of the hippie movement. Now that most real hippies are in their late 60s or early 70s, they, of course, sing a different tune. ;-)

Personal Disclosure: I was never a hippie, but I had friends who were as well as people who hated my guts who were. Some even spit on me when they learned I was a returning veteran. Those were tense times on campus.
