Not really. I think you just confused two bowls with similar names. The Military Bowl is in Anapolis, MD, while the Armed Services Bowl is in Forth Worth.

Gene Collier from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette nails it.

Gene Collier wrote:

Pitt should be playing West Virginia this week, or better still, Pitt should be playing Penn State in the kind of soul-baring collision that can make or break an entire season. They used to say you could throw the record books out the window when Pitt and West Virginia met, then somebody threw the history books out the window as well. The Backyard Brawl, consequently, has thus been officially defenestrated.

Pitt chose to end the rivalry with WV when they left the Big East for the ACC. If Pitt and Syracuse would have simply said no to the ACC and stuck together with the other BE schools like they supposedly committed to do there might possibly still be a Big East today. Greed ruined Pitt's rivalry.

I would much rather see a BE today with Pitt, WV, VT, Miami, Syracuse and BC than the new ACC. Those teams belong in the BE not the ACC & Big 12 with the exception of Miami.

The Power 5 and specifically the ACC and ESPN have ruined college football, many rivalries and gave us a crappy so called 4 team playoff that I don't think will settle much of anything when you look at the teams that are going to get left out. This isn't a playoff it's a power grab fueled by greed.
