MAC West Race

It's getting pretty competitive. Toledo got a big win last night over B.G. to keep pace with NIU. Now the Rockets have to hope for WMU to pull the upset over NIU next week, because Toledo holds the tie-breaker beating WMU earlier in the year. On the flip side, NIU holds the tie-breaker over Toledo.

I still say Toledo and BG will rematch in Detroit, but WMU is sneaky good. But NIU keeps chugging along...

...OR we can root for chaos if this happens:

-WMU loses at CMU, but beats NIU. Both WMU and NIU finish with two losses.

-CMU wins out and finishes with two losses.

-Toledo gaffes against EMU giving them two losses also.

I guess a 4-way tie would come down to best record vs. the East right?

In that case:

Toledo: 3-0
NIU: 3-0
CMU: 3-0
WMU: 3-0

Anyone care to share what the next tie-breaker is?

Toledo would win a four-way tie. The head-to-heads would have CMU 2-1 (wins vs NIU and WMU, loss to Toledo); Toledo 2-1 (wins vs. CMU and WMU, loss to NIU); NIU 1-2 (win vs Toledo, losses to WMU and CMU); and WMU 1-2 (win over NIU, losses to Toledo and CMU). Toledo would then have the head-to-head with CMU.

Maybe...I bet Vegas probably will favor them. I was thinking more in lines of psychological upset, given WMU was 1-11 last year.

I'm thinking WMU will be favored by at least 7. Besides the fact that the game is in Kalamazoo, WMU has been very impressive the last 4 games, beating BG by 12, Ohio by 21, Miami by 31, and EMU by 44. By contrast NIU beat Ohio by 7, EMU by 11, and Miami by 10.

Still doesn't make most of you think that we are significantly behind the curve...and not gaining on it ??

I loves the green-colored glasses, too. But you have too leaven that with a bit of reality.

[aside to shaba: i presume that we'll play some of these West side teams next year. still think undefeated next season mac?]

That's because it was one game, where anything can happen. Almost without fail, the West wins the interdivisional series in football (usually by a wide margin) and the East wins it in basketball. Last year, in b-ball the East was +4 vs the West, even though the West had the top two tourney seeds. Two years ago, the East was +12 and three years ago it was +24.
