My goodness. The excitement for this team is overwhelming. I almost feel sorry for the players. They're wrapped in this fog of unexciting, boring and it's very unlikely to change.

Now, it's been, what, 30 or 31 games of the same big nothingness.

We are who we are. Predictable, boring, not very good at big moments. The big yawn.

[I can write the other side's view: Improving, haven't quit, players playing hard, that's a good team that deserves our support and will show us next year, really solid coaching, injuries, ......]

Quotes from the game, no excuses, Vick really manning up about his own play. I really like this young man.

http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/m-footbl/recaps/111914a...

Ohio Redshirt Junior Quarterback Derrius Vick

On the fumble at the end of the 4th quarter:
“I thought he was down, but at the same time it was the end of the game, we have to protect the ball and we can’t let the refs decide the game. We have to just come up with the ball at the end of every play and hand the ball to the ref."

On the flaws in the offense:
"Just not executing on third downs enough. I think we had a couple of third and shorts and we just didn’t execute them. For the most part I think we played a complete game besides maybe three plays coming in right after the half where we made them fumble, then I threw that pick. I think that was a big drive for them because they obviously got points off of that drive. We can’t have turnovers, obviously, and that’s why we lost the game.”

On his interception:
"I scrambled. I should have either ran or thrown the ball away and just accepted that the defense won on that play.”

On the weather:
“During the game you’re already loose and warm from going in there a lot, so it didn’t really have any effect on us at all.”

On looking forward:
“Obviously, we would have liked this game. It was an important game for us and it was the last home game. We’ve been playing well at home but tomorrow it’s on to the next one. We’ll watch film tomorrow and find out what mistakes we made this week and capitalize on them next week. It will be a big rivalry game and they put up a lot of points, so offensively, we’re going to have to be better.”

On the atmosphere of the game:
“I think that for the most part, as a team we’re locked in. The weather didn’t affect us much; we had heaters on the sideline so we were pretty much warm if we weren’t in the game. As far as fans, we were just locked in offensively and honestly we were just fueling off of our own energy.”

A.J. Quotes. He really likes his seniors. What a difference a year makes.

http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/m-footbl/recaps/111914a...

Ohio Freshman Running Back A.J. Ouellette
On the loss:
“It definitely hurts. I got to know the seniors quite a bit this year and I wanted to win this one for them but we came up a little short.”

On his physical health:
“The bursts felt better. I got landed on once but I didn’t feel it too much, just a little bit. I felt 100 percent in the beginning.”

On the offensive flaws:
“Just not executing. There were a couple of reads I wish I could have had back on the third and shorts.”

On the Northern Illinois defense:
“I think it was the same defense we had seen all game, we just didn’t protect the ball. We had plays there, we just didn’t execute.”

On the impact the seniors have made:
"They’ve helped me a lot this year. We had a stalling drive where I got held up on fourth down and I came off of the sideline frustrated. I had three seniors in my face, helping me out. They’ve all been a big help to me this year.”

What game were you watching, Monroe? A walk-on RB going for 100+ and two TDs in a dominating individual performance. Boring?

8 - 10 - 12 (?) guys with catches. - Oh so predictable.

Virtually stifling a very potent offense in a big game on national TV. - Not very good at big moments.

Huge conversions to keep the final drive alive - Not exciting at all.

On second thought, I guess you're right.

On this, I agree. And I wonder when our last successful regular-season "big moment" was for us? Penn St.?

The team played hard and fell short. Losing sucks and stuff. I saw an improved team that played very hard ball. This will carry over to next season.

We will win the conference before most of us die. I truly believe this.

I'm sorry but when did not quitting and having a lot of different guys catch balls and not stopping NIU's winning drive in clutch time (despite playing fairly good D otherwise) become hallmarks of top success? What huge conversions on the final drive--we turned it over.

A lot..most..of you will read this as me being smug. It's not. I firmly believe that there are fundamental problems here and that we have very, very little chance of overcoming them without significant change.

That change doesn't necessarily mean that we need new people. But the same people doing the same thing....definition of insanity, no?

This one's difficult to see from TV and vidcasts--but we seem to substitute receivers way too much. Is our receiver talent that indistinct across the board? Isn't there someone--hello T Price or L Brazil--who makes plays and should be on the field almost every play on offense?
