I'm going, but not excited about this game at all. I hope the team surprises me and makes me happy I didn't sit by the fireplace watching the game on a big tv.

palpable excitement here for tomorrow

dilfer on cowherd today noted a simple, effective adjustmnet by belichick--oppo's was 3 down linemen supplemented by two outside, mobile 'backers...backers fast but not heavy, so belichick added a rookie tackle at 'TE' and ran on 'em ...not that anyone's suggested lightweight secondaries in MAC so go heavyweight run, because you'd have to be belichick football savvy to see/suggest that.

Run the ball, stop the run, win the game. Never heard of it. 18 degrees, if both coaches decide to go balanced or pass heavy they could lengthen the game by more than an hour. Give the fans some MACtion, their money's worth. Seriously, not!!

You miss the point. We should add...and massively should have earlier this season...an extra lineman or two and an extra rb, preferably giving us two rb's with power/strength. So obvious.

Headed out to the game. Hope it's worth it.
Looks like a cold one for sure, but we had 7 below last week so at least it's not that bad.

I'd love to see the improvement from last game continue. If that happens, who knows what could happen tonight.

We need to start out strong this evening to win. The couple of NIU games I've watched this season, they have played it close until the 4th quarter when their running game really started to eat up yardage. If we play it close and hope to steal one late, I think we lose.

The cold factor probably means passing is less effective, since cold fingers don't grasp a ball as well. It might also mean more fumbles. Looking at season stats, NIU doesn't turn the ball over much, but they don't force many. Our D has been better at forcing TOs, but it's mostly interceptions.

In my preseason predictions, I called this one our WTF??? win of the year. I'm sticking by that. On paper, NIU should win this in a walk. But like I said, if we can get up on them early and get some adrenaline going for us, NIU may just want to get it over with and get in from out of the cold.

Monroe, where do you suggest that we come up with more power runners or more linemen as the Patriots did ?? You are missing an important point. In college football, you are who you are. You have who you have ! Especially going into game 10 or 11. College coaches do not have the options available that an NFL coaching staff has. Belicheck can go to his practice squad, or someone elses practice squad for that matter, sign and activate extra lineman, or an extra power running back just as the Patriots and others do. We do not have these type of athletes waiting in the wings on a practice squad! We are who we are, and we have who we have! More power in the backfield would certainly help us, and I am sure this is a recruiting priority. If Oulette should get dinged up early tonight, or if NIU's run defense can bottle us up, it may be a long, cold night in Peden. Possible we can borrow some horses from the Patriots stable ?

It's also a penalty to attempt to run a play with 14 players on the field.

Apologies to my grandson, but I must break my promise to take him to this game. The predicted game time temperature is now down to only 12*, with wind chills below zero. I have been informed by many people that I will face child endangering charges if I take him. Will be watching at home by a roaring fire. Go Bobcats!

But it's "so obvious" to do what Monroe suggests.

Healthier Bobcats, extra time to prepare, there have been some good results. Games in State College and Shreveport come to mind. Senior night for Crutch, McCleod, Ingol, Kristoff, Davis, Smith K., Smith L., Cochran, Edmond, etc. I have high hopes.

But, Monroe says you're a PR guy for Frank and way too optimistic. I believe he called you and I "sunshine guys" or something like that. Well, I'm optimistic too, and I think a win tonight is well within the realm of possibility. Given the point spread the boys from Las Vegas think so too.

Note: I did not say that I didn't see the problems this year. I did not say everything was sweetness and light. I realize we've been struggling this year because of youth, a few key injuries and new defensive scheme that's not easy to learn. But I've seen improvement in the last several games -- even in the BG loss.

Bobcatsquared...I have to agree with Monroe. I always try to study my best opponents and see what they are doing that makes them so good. News Flash: BG and NIU both have big tough running backs. I hate to tell you but in November north of the Ohio River, that is what gets you to wins. The weather is just not always perfect...

I do understand the Pistol is not really the most suited for the big back but that is a whole other discussion. Personally, I hate the Pistol. First, virtually nobody runs it 100% of the time (see the table I posted somewhere that shows about 5 schools running this offense). Second, I think you have to be able to run multiple formations in this era of football. Many of the top teams run from the I, Pro Set, and Pistol in any given game. We don't.

And yes, with a power running game and short passing game the Pats have been a lot better than they were early. Then, throw in just enough deep stuff to keep the defenses honest. That seems to be a recipe for success IF you can execute.

Really the only changes in the example were to substitute a rookie tackle at TE and a bigger back. Don't be surprised if you see Ohio play the usual TE and another for the slot receiver as an H back. You don't have to change to the I formation to run heavy. A.J. is a great tough runner. I hope Ohio gets ahead to the point that Edmond can contribute.

Haha, when is the last time we were in the I? Or ran a Pro Formation with a two back set...seriously? Or ran with a TE lead blocking...I could go on and on but I will leave that to Monroe.

On a more serious note: everyone going to the game bundle up , be safe, and stay warm (as you can). And, Stand Up and Cheer once in a while to keep the blood moving!

I could be wrong, but I think DFC meant that we frequently are lined up in a shotgun set, rather than pistol

*sigh* Looks like this game is up against a good MSU vs. Duke basketball game on ESPN and Marquette @ OSU on the deuce.

No complaints. That's just tough competition. Plus, you throw in Shark Tank on ABC...

I think Ohio gets spanked tonight big time. Hopefully I'm really wrong about that. My fantasy football team's only 3-8, so the odds of me being wrong are good......

Are you guys really that unimaginative? Just add a second/lead running back or another lineman or two. What--we don't have any on the roster? Didja see that key 3rd down early 4th qtr and a few other plays when we didn't have the beef to gain a few inches to a half yard. Seriously, get you M.O.

It's a great point. We should just keep doing the same old stuff that isn't working. Let's not react to circumstances.

Hey, anyone for another qb draw.

Get a freaking clue.

It would be nice if our d-line made some plays: tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage. This D is gonna lead us to a MAC title next year--not so sure.
