These are the top two teams in the MAC East? Embarrassing! At least we beat Akron.

The rain looks pretty nasty at times. A Zips win would tighten the MAC East race (a man can dream).

Right there with you. At times, OHIO looks much better than these two teams. I know BG killed us, but that was one of the strangest games I've ever seen. Always room for hope - Go AKRON!!!

I think I'm pulling for BG. I'd rather see Kron fall behind us in the standings for bowl bid purposes. A meteor crash would be nice, though.

In other news, Dino Babers works the refs worse than Mike Krzyzewski.

Explain? Not being flip, but how does Akron losing help us? I don't get it?

At least they're the two teams with the best records. BG is likely the best team and is certainly the most talented, but I'm not sure Akron is 2nd best. It's pretty close among Ohio (with Vick), Akron, UMass & Buffalo.

I think a healthy OHIO is the best - they can all make the same claim. Is it just that our depth is so thin or does the MAC have more injuries than others? I'm not being a smart ass - I'm wondering. I suppose it's depth.

The 5 MAC bowl bids probably go to Toledo, BG, WMU, CMU and NIU. If a 6th opens up, we need to be ahead of Akron in the standings to make the best case for it.

BG is the best team in the East and has proven it thus far. I would say Ohio is the second best in the East though.

Depth is a key part of determining who's "the best team." Everybody in the MAC has very good starters (except maybe EMU, Fiami and Kent) but you can't play only starters every game. The bench separates good teams from "best" teams. Deep depth is what makes champions. (Always like to use Yogisms whenever possible.) I think our problem this season is that much of our bench is inexperienced compared to some of the other MAC teams. Even some of our seniors (e.g., Tim Edmond) have had precious little PT the past three seasons.

How pathetic did the MAC look on television yesterday? Both stadiums were empty. I know it rained, but even if it didn't those crowds would have been paltry. High school teams draw bigger crowds.

That's the the tradeoff for the ESPN money. If those games were on Saturday, the attendance would have been much better. I've also noticed that it's not just the MAC. I watched parts of two other night games last Friday, and they were both played before nearly empty stadiums -- UC@Tulane and Memphis@Temple.

On a related subject, I've noticed many times over the last few years that we've had cold and often rainy games on weeknights in Athens, and the following Saturday would be seasonably warm with sunshine. I don't think the college football gods like midweek games! ;-)

I wonder if having two DI football games about 12 miles apart played at the same time makes a difference in attendance.

I believe in most cases, yes. When it's Akron and Kent involved, probably not.

Damning with faint praise. Quite frankly, it's BG and everyone else.

This makes the NIU game really big. We beat them and Miami we might just sneak in at #5. then i get to eat crow for my comment about the bowl streak ending. It's worth it!

Or Mich and EMU. They claimed that EMU had 19,000 for their home game last week, but looking at the pix from the game I don't believe it. EMU couldn't draw more than 10,000 even if they were the only team in the state.

EMU periodically issues a bunch of extra tickets to Pepsi for next to nothing. IDK if anyone actually uses any of them, but since they were "sold", that allows EMU to claim attendance over 15,000.

Right after I graduated I attended a Bobcat football game at EMU. 100 people were at the game! It looked like a controlled scrimmage. And this was when the games were played on Saturday afternoon.

They need to get the Ann Arbor over follow crowd to EMU on days they are both home at the same time if that ever happens.

Uhh...I don't believe Ann Arbor currently has overflow crowds, they were giving away tickets this year.

They'll probably get back to sellout crowds next year after Hoke is gone.

UMASS is probably the second best team in the East because they actually have an offense, although they don't have a defense. They are pretty exciting to watch. Like others have said, I'm glad we didn't play them this year.
