That's why I left at the half.

Have not been to chat this year. I was referring to comments this week maligning Mr. Kristhoff. If this year's senior group winds up the with the most or the second most wins ever at Ohio who on the team will have contributed more?

A win is a win but man that was some bad football today. For both teams. I cant remember when I have seen such little talent on the field for a Division I football game.

Didn't realize he was out of bounds when he made the hit?!

Credibility is in question here.

Which do you think is more credible? That he was confused about where he was? Or, that he was happy to get a 15 yard penalty? Since the latter makes no sense, I suspect that there was a different explanation.

I suppose an alternate explanation is that he knew he had been out of bounds, and he was applauding the official for making a correct call.

First, you miss my point...locked up so tight in your viewpoint, as usual.

Second, isn't it true that every out of bounds hitting player could claim that didn't realize were out...So, hey, they're never to be blamed. As I recall he was well out of bounds. No excuses either way. And I love the 'more penalties is usually good defense' argument. Let's go commit some more penalties so we'll win more games!

I admit that I don't know what your point was, but I do know that you obviously missed mine.

I'm sure it almost never happens that players intentionally hit other players out of bounds, so yes, I'm sure that it is almost always true that they think they are in bounds when they make the hit. That doesn't mean they weren't wrong, nor that they shouldn't be penalized, nor even that the Coach shouldn't make them run laps. It does mean that they don't deserve to be ejected from the game, which they should be, if they intentionally hit someone out of bounds.

I just was trying to explain possible reasons why me might have clapped. It was the clapping that had people confused.

You also clearly missed the point of the penalties thread. I'm not saying they should try to get penalties. I am saying that they should continue to play aggressively, and that I accept that if they play aggressively, they will sometimes get penalties.

What planet are you living on? [deleted because I was confusing him with catfan28.] There was a lot good D1 football talent on the field today. Ohio's is very young. Akron two games ago beat Pitt, who Thursday night beat Virginia Tech, which, as has been pointed out in another thread, earlier in the year beat O$U. So how did Akron beat Pitt with so little talent? When they had Pohl at QB did it magically make all of their other players better D1 talent?

Uh yes, come on OCF in our old days at the Athens Middle School, whoever got Bill Riley as a point guard won all of their games. Same can be said for a quarterback.

He was commenting on talent across the board. [deleted because I was getting him mixed up with catfan28] Yes, in today's game we did luck out by not having to face Pohl; however, that doesn't mean that all of the other Akron players were chopped cabbage. [You are right about Bill Riley. This morning at AMS Tom Horst's kid was on my team and we won all four games -- same phenomenon.]

I'll tell you what...talent is severely lacking, but at the end of the day, I'd take this year's team over 2013. The guys out there actually care and want to win. I don't think you'd see us pull a 49-0 with this bunch. Sprague is getting better (still has a long way to go) and I think once Ouelette is fully recovered he'll really be a force. IMO 6 wins = bowl this year, we shall see!

Tough result for a Zip fan like me obviously, but congrats on the win. I think Solich got the better of Bowden in many respects yesterday. I mentioned earlier my worry that the UA defense would try to "cover" instead of attack, and that's pretty much what occurred. I think the missed sack on Ohio's 1st possession may have reinforced this tendency from Amato.

Peden is a nice facility, well suited for the conference. A friendly Bobcat fan handed my wife and I two tickets in Lot 87 before the game. Thanks!

Made a quick stop at Jackie O's after the game. Will definitely have to stop again when I have more time. We have some nice micro-brews in NE Ohio of course, but JO's is right up there. Excellent.

The MAC East looks pretty tame this year in general, so we probably won't know until mid-November how much this game affects either team's post-season chances. Good luck the rest of the season.

Thanks, JohnnyZip84. Good luck to Akron, too, except in games that might affect Ohio's standings in the MAC East! ;-)

At the end of that video, for the "We love football" chat, as I recall the players used to pick up Jason Grooms. I note that they don't pick up Chris Rodgers. ;)

Watched the Zips Football/Terry Bowden recap of the game last night. Bowden was politely respectful of Ohio, mentioned the crowd and environment being tough but clearly held on to the opinion that Akron was destined to win if not for the two late turnovers. That's probably how I would feel, too. He had some nice things to say about the young QB and mentioned that his listed weight was 240#. That was a compact 240 and it's no wonder he escaped a number of arm tackles. Kid is going to be a literal handful if he figures out how to complete another couple of passes a week.

Solich & Bowden, between them they have head coached in 435 games. It is interesting that Solich is winning 63.6% and Bowden 64.1%. When they get together it winds up 23-20.

Not exactly a Saul Phillips statement . . . promising to stay until his young daughter graduates from high school at Athens High. But, it also doesn't sound like he'll take the first train out of Dodge.

I'm thinking that if Akron goes bowling this year, Bowden will get interest from SMU, Michigan (when, not if, Hoke is given leftover Thanksgiving turkey on the way out the door) and possibly USF, if they've had enough of Taggart.

Well, SMU and USF would be the first trains out of Dodge. Obviously, he couldn't refuse UMich, but I personally doubt that that's in the cards. As I said, it wasn't the football coaches equivalent of a Sherman Statement, so I wouldn't be too surprised if he left; on the other hand, I also wouldn't be too surprised if he decided to "pull a Frank" and stay long term.

Michigan won't go after Bowden. If they did that would be way out of left field and I would seriously question whether or not they were serious about winning championships. Bowden is a good coach, but he's not the guy to lead a top tier program like Michigan.

Now SMU...that has some promise. But given the school's past and his past, I don't know if they would want to mix the two together.

Larry Fedora isn't making many friends at UNC right now, that could be an option. UVA is also probably going to be open soon. Iowa State and Kansas could be in the cards.
