Once again, you're a prophet.

EDIT: With Pohl out tomorrow, our chances improve. Woodson has decent overall stats for a redshirt freshman(28-53, 305 yds, 2 tds), but it's been mostly in garbage time. His best game was vs Howard (5-8, 92 yds, 1 td). He was 8-15, 100 yds, 1 td in 4th Q action vs T'erd (they were already down 38 pts). Last week he played the 2nd half vs Fiami and was 7-14 for 64 yds. He's had playing time in every game but PSU and has had a full week with the starters, so there won't be much rust. Akron averaged only 68 yds rushing vs EMU & Fiami, so we should be able to focus on keeping the passing game in check.

Greetings Bobcat fans.

I'm looking forward to a crisp fall day for football at Peden tomorrow. As discussed on other threads here, the football following at UA hasn't exactly reacted quickly to the recent signs of improvement. But a number of the die-hards who somehow made it through the Ianello disaster will be travelling to most of the away games this year.

Just wanted to clear up the recent Zip rushing attack. It's actually been pretty decent the last 3 games (Pitt 169 yards, EMU 197 yards, Miami 151 yards). As they say regarding the market, that's no guarantee of future success. I fully expect Ohio to try to stuff the box and blitz Woodson to see how he handles it.

The Zip defense has been very good aside from when the Blundering Turd came to the Info. They're best when they play aggressively, but when they sit back in coverage they can give up yards through the air. That's obviously concerning to me since the Bobcats put up big passing numbers against BG.

I've always been impressed (and envious) with the size of your fan-base. I'm not sure UA will ever get there, but I'd like to see what a few years of consistent winning would do.

I'm also looking forward to stopping at Jackie O's after the game no matter the outcome. Maybe I'll see some of you there?

Welcome to the board. Typical banter on here about Akron is pretty disgracious, as is per the "bobkitties" on Zipsnation.org (I check in there often to see the pulse, news, etc.). That stuff is all in good fun!

Thanks for the fan base compliment. We are a proud group - through thick and thin (and we argue on here through thick and thin - but WTH - that's what these type boards are for). I think that Bobcat Pride is more about OHIO and time spent in Athens more than any sports teams. I was at Infocision Stadium for OUr game up their LY. REAL nice stadium. I am bemused by the lack of a bigger fan base up there - but you do have a lot more regional competition (and beyond just sports entertainment). However - I as an example for OHIO fan base - drive from Columbus round trip to Athens for every Football and basketball game - and know many others who make a long trip for games as well. Strength of pride and loyalty certainly has to be a factor. As OUr TV ads these days promote - "Once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat".

I think the game tomorrow is Full of question marks both teams, both sides of the ball. I'm looking forward to an up and down affair - hope it stays exciting to later in the game, then we put it away before last minute heroics required....

I've long thought that the biggest inhibitor to attendance at Akron - and Kent - is the campus environment. Both are largely commuter schools, with thousands of students leaving campus on weekends. By contrast, most Ohio students remain on campus on weekends. I believe that strengthens bonds with Alma Mater and increases the chance that students who become alumni will become lifelong fans. Me? I'm a season ticket holder and looking forward tomorrow morning to my usual 165-mile drive from my North Canton driveway to Peden.

There's no doubt that Ohio has an advantage over urban MAC schools in terms of providing, in general, a more focused collegiate experience. I suppose the MAC program I'm hoping UA can more realistically emulate is Toledo. We may see in the next few years whether that is a possibility or not.

Mike, I may just see you on the way after I leave my driveway in Canal Fulton lol

You might.

BTW, I get to Canal Fulton fairly often. Two friends live there. The library has had me do several book programs. And I much enjoy taking guests to The Dragon Fly Tea Room.

We'll likely know the winner of this game by the halfway mark in Q1. In Ohio's 4 losses their opponents' first two offensive drives have resulted in 7 TDs, 1 FG, 0 TOs, 0 Punts. In those 8 drives Ohio's defense has given up a total of 547 yards with 151yds rushing on 23 attempts (6.6yds/rush) and 20/29 (69.0%) passing for 396yds.

Ohio's defense has been able to make good adjustments after the first two drives which makes the bad starts all the more frustrating. The bigger problem is that once Ohio's offense goes down by two scores it lacks the punch to get back in the game. We need a strong start on Saturday.

And we've scored on either of our first two drives in only three games, and we won all three.

Pissst, hey, don't point out things like this as some may construe the statistics as an attack on the coaching staff not having the lads prepared--man you do not want to get on the bad side of a couple posters on here by bringing up facts like these--leave posts like this to Monroe, he's already in their sheethouse.

The difference between the Defense's performance on the first two drives, where it might as well have not even been on the field in most of the games, and the rest of the game, where it looks like a quality defense by G5 standards, is something that if you didn't have the stats in front of you and were only half paying attention to how the team was faring you would still have had to notice.

The Zips march right down the field as has been the norm all season.

My POG, Josh Kristoff. You know, someone might owe Josh a apology. Really there were several who showed they really wanted to win.

The staff and players have not quit. There will be those who choose not to enjoy it. Feel free to manually apply an ignore feature to their nay saying.

There's absolutely no quit in this team. Most of it is a matter of skill because the players are so young.

This wasn't a pretty win, but I'd rather have an ugly (or at least, homely) win instead of a pretty loss. Sprague's numbers weren't good, but he did an ok job managing the team. Unlike Woodson, he didn't any mistakes that hurt the team. The one big fault I saw was a play in the 2nd or 3rd quarter where he could've run for the first but instead pulled up and threw an incomplete pass into coverage. Having Oullette back this week really helped. I hope that the fact he was in late means the injury he had in the 4th Q isn't serious.

The biggest problem on this team right now is discipline. The penalties the last two weeks have killed them. And for Wells to applaud after hitting a player out of bounds is just inexcusable. I think a lot of this is frustration, but it's atypical of a Solich team. Because of the problems with the offense, the defense in particular has to cut the crap.

A lot of things are clearer when you're looking at it through a camera than they do down on the field. I don't think that at the time Wells realized he was out of bounds when he made the hit. After the play, an Akron player bumped him, and said some things. I think Wells thought the penalty was called for that. I'm sure he'll be asked to explain it to the coaches, though.

I agree, there is no quit, and I said before the season, so long as they keep playing hard, I'm behind them 100%.

As for the win, it was a very hard fought defensive battle. I like defensive battles better than MACtion, so I enjoyed the game.
