How in the heck does any Akron fan who has any sense not realize that Bowden is gone either next year or the next? He won't be a Big 12 or Big 10 coach anytime soon but I could see him heading to a South Florida or a Southern Miss or a Syracuse type school that is just on the cusp. He is not living in Akron his whole life. What I would be worried about if I were a Kron fan would be Chuck Amato replacing him! That would suck!

This is exactly what I was thinking. He might not want to go to a "power school," but I think he would fit nicely at school bigger than Akron in the South like an ECU or USF. Hell, Marshall sounds like a better fit for him than Akron.

I think Bowden ends up at WVU after Holgorsen gets wished well in his future endeavors soon. His dad coached there, he went to Morgantown HS, he went to WVU and he views West Virginia as his home. The fans would welcome him back with open arms.

Agreed. Holgo has not lived up to the hype, and WVU makes sense for Bowden.

Didn't even think about that. That would be a VERY interesting scenario.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

There is no way in holy hell that Terry Bowden ends up at WVU. That is laughable to even suggest that.

While it's been a struggle the last couple seasons, WVU is a middle of the road (teetering on top half) Big XII team. Bowden will most likely never get a look at a program like that.

Holgerson certainly has WVU back on the right track this year....close losses to Bama and Okla are respectable.....but we'll know a lot more with Baylor, K-State, Texas, TCU, and Okie State in their next five.

If he can get WVU to 7-8 wins, he's not going anywhere.

BUT....

If they do let him go, I can assure you Oliver Luck isn't going to hire Terry Bowden. That's not the splash he's looking for for his program.

WVU has spent (and lost) a lot of money with this move to the Big XII....hiring a middle-of-the-road semi-successful guy whose best years are nearly 20 years in the rearview mirror isn't exactly the answer.

I agree with a previous post that a place like Syracuse, USF or Southern Miss is more likely.

Let's remember....Akron hasn't made a bowl game yet...and if they do....let's keep in perspective that making a bowl game isn't as big a deal as it once was. 6-6 will get you a bowl. If you have a pulse, you should make a bowl...

Which leads me to us....

Ummmmm.......still searching for that pulse this year

You do know that his dad used to coach there right? The only thing holding Oliver Luck from not hiring Bowden is his reputation from when he was at Auburn.

I'm well aware his dad coached there. He was honored a couple weeks ago at the Kansas game.

But there is no way in hell that Oliver Luck is hiring Terry Bowden!

Just because he has family ties to the program, doesn't mean they want to hire him.

What's stopping Oliver Luck from hiring him is that he is not a coach that can run a program that is looking to get back into becoming a Top 25 school.

Holgorsen is a much, much, much better option at this point.

He's recruited well and has a lot of young talent...they should contend in the Big XII in the next few years.

And if it all blows up on Holgy....Luck will look for a big-name coach that will make a splash at WVU. Not a re-tread from Akron.

Bowden's best chance at getting a Big XII job is at Kansas or Iowa State....and I don't think Iowa State would even look his way right now. Kansas might be just dumb enough to

Iowa State is job where it's tough to win. Kansas is, too, but less so. Kansas, however, probably won't go for another MAC coach anytime soon.

Looks like Miami may have given us a little help facing Akron as Pohl may have suffered a concussion last week. He wasn't practicing this week yet as of yesterday. Never like to see guys injured but it does has advantages sometimes.

Bowden isn't exactly a MAC coach. He was at a lot of other places, including Auburn, before landing at Akron. He has name recognition and he's turning things around at Akron, although probably not for the long term. He'll likely be gone after one winning season, then Akron will revert to its old ways ala Kent after Hazell.

I happened to watch the Terry Bowden Show on TV last night. He was urging Akron fans to make the trip to Athens. He said that Ohio has the most consistent, best fan support in the MAC.

He ought to start urging Akron fans to show up for Akron games "at home" before he starts worrying about road games. What did they have at home last week - 8,200 in attendance?

They had 9100 for Howard, but less than 8500 for each of their first two MAC home games. 39,000 for four home dates -- less than the crowd that saw them win at Pitt. To top it off, their last two home games are Tuesday nights -- BG on 11/4 (maybe their biggest crowd of the year) and UMass on 11/18. They'll have to get nearly 90% capacity for both games just to reach 15,000 average.

The key question for this weekend is what color will Terry Bowden's hair be? It was bright orange against Penn State, blond at Pitt and yellow last week. Someone noted, correctly, that he looked like Mrs. Doubtfire on the sidelines in Happy Valley.

Good think they built a new stadium to hold all those people.

As for the 15,000, I think they only have to meet that every other year, and schools finagle the paperwork, if necessary, to accomplish that. They do something like selling 7,000 tickets a game to, say, Pepsi, for essentially nothing, and then Pepsi does whatever with them. They really don't have 15,000 at the game, but they can claim it because they "sold" the tickets.

The truth is that this "requirement" is not being enforced.

I watched that, too, Jeff, hoping for some insight into their Ohio week planning (none of which was included)

What I did learn, though, is that Terry Bowden has an ego that easily outstrips his fathers accomplishments. Tough being the son of a legend, I'll bet.

Akron brings all of 3 fans to Peden every year. Definitely not something I'd hang my hat on if I'm Coach Bowden.

Hey, it's an easy number to improve on. He's hoping to encourage 2 more to attend, so he can see a 67% increase.

Not exactly a Saul Phillips statement . . . promising to stay until his young daughter graduates from high school at Athens High. But, it also doesn't sound like he'll take the first train out of Dodge.
