Another idea I have by the touchdown club is to sell a premium lawn seat where for $40 dollars or so you could have access to the touchdown club concessions and could sit on the lawn around the new academic center. The lawn may have to be redesigned to make it functional to support a crowd but with the new bathrooms they are putting in there it makes sense. The issue I see with adding more permanent seats to the stadium are as some have mentioned those mid week games which are going to be here to stay. If we start hitting 22,000 for Midweek games while overflow on the weekends then its time to put some more seats in. Most likely the opportunity to move to a "bigger conference" will never come, but if it does, such a conference would require the addition of more seats. The point that I was trying to make above was not that seats should be added now (unless the cost was very low), but rather that changes being made anyway, like the academic center, should be done in a way that would be friendly to future expansion, just in case it was needed. If you consider the AAC or CUSA bigger conferences more seats won't be required. They have schools with 25,000 seat stadiums. My thought has always been to either demolish, or gut the underside of the student section side of the stadium when a true second deck is warranted. Depending on how big you want that section to be, the light poles would need to be moved. As it is now, it looks like there is about a 25 foot gap between the end of the east stands and the light poles, which should be enough room to add a second deck. The architectural question I have is how would people get to that second deck? At the bottom of that gap is a driveway for deliveries, buses, etc. I've always thought that if they want to add to the east stands, the current back walls could be demolished and another 12-15 rows could be added before the light poles are reached. It's the only side that makes sense now that the Academic Center plans are underway. Flatten the hill, take down the old scoreboard, and build stands parallel with the back of the end zone with a bright and shiny new scoreboard attached to the top. As much as I would like a second deck or to enclose the other side of the stadium, in my not-so-much of an architect opinion, the only one that works is Victory Hill. Basically they got rid of those bleachers for the two additions on the other end of the field. I think the bleachers probably sat 3000 or so.
