I wonder if there is a comparison that can be made to the 2010 team. That year we started with a bad performance beating a FCS team, then proceeded to look bad against Toledo, Ohio State, and Marshall(okay we almost won). Things looked bleak then also. In particular we didn't seem to have a qb who could throw the ball all year. A lot of us (myself included) had given up on the year early. That team rallied however and ran off 7 straight wins. True there were no teams you would call good in there unless you include Temple but still the team came around. How does this team compare to that one in talent and do you see the possibility of making a comeback again? Okay we have at least 2 games that on the surface seem a tough task to be winners in(bg, and NIU) but the rest of the schedule isn't that bad. Maybe someone who has a better memory then I and knows much more about football(I admit to knowing little) can make a better comparison then I can. Do we have any leaders on this team though to get the team going?

The difference is on paper, I've always considered the 2010 team easily the most talented team of the Solich era. There were guys with NFL potential at every position. Losing Brazill and Keller to season-ending injuries early was not good, but I thought we did well to fill in.

The Toledo game was downright awful. That was the most uninspired effort I have ever seen Ohio play. I believe we got blown out by Ohio State and Troy because we did not start Boo at quarterback in either game. We let Phil Bates run QB draws for one yard about a million times. I'm not sure we would have won either game with Boo playing, but they would have been more competitive.

If you want to make comparisons to past teams, I still think the 2006 comparison holds water. True, there is no Kalvin McRae or Matt Muncy, but position by position, I think we are more talented today. Who was the best team we faced in the 2006 regular season? I would argue that it was the Ray Rice-led Rutgers squad, and I think this year's Marshall would beat that team.

Ah, that game in columbus that Bates started. How anyone could have thought that guy was a qb is beyond me. He had no arm and looked about helpless against columbus. We got a little traction when we brought in our real qb (it was Boo, right?) in the 2nd half.

Which brings us to the same old problem...the one which we saw in last year's tetivo...the one that we're seeing in the backfield this year: inability to put the right players on the field on offense.

Bates as a qb..seriously? Take a look at the first half of that game in columbus. If you don't cringe at our offense, I'll buy you all the ice cream that you can eat.

I believe Boo was nursing an injury at the time and was kind of questionable going into that osu game. Unfortunately, we had no other options behind him. I though Boo started the bowl game against Troy and he actually completed a pretty long TD on our first or second possession.

DFC--Maybe. But Boo sure looked healthy enough when he took the field in that game in columbus. ....Smacks of some weird, bad decision to not have started him.

Plus, Boo nearly beat OSU when he came in (relieving Theo Scott?) two years earlier.
