Here's one of your insightful posts from OUR CUSA board (thread about Miami of Ohio v. Marshall):

"there's nothing greater than the annual building up of the Herd, where Marshall fans talk themselves up into a frenzy and start believing that THIS is the year it all comes together. They'll say things like "we had the #7 offense in the country last year!" and " our team runs a lot of plays!" and so on, but they forget all about the part where they finished 5-7. Of course this all leads to the inevitable freak out/melt down after any loss, which includes a mandatory calling for the head of everyone on the coaching staff, and sometimes some of the players too.

It's like watching salmon swim up stream to spawn under a double rainbow. it's beautiful."

FYI, we finished 10-4 last year. This year, you are the salmon.

There are other examples of your insightful musings, and I am pretty sure you know it. Lol.....

Nothing is over for crying out loud. We're atop the MAC East and that's what the season is going to boil down to.

Guys, the thing many of you seem to not get is that this is not just a one game or one season thing. I think over the last 20 games we now have a losing record. and, contrary to some opinions, our recruiting has not chnaged over the last 2-3 years to indicate improvement is coming. We still simply do NOT get enough highly rated players. 28 is another on this board who is correct: there are no playmakers out there. No fumbles forced in 3 games and only the one int today. I just don't see how anyone can say this program is going in the right direction. Maybe by the end of the year I will change my mind but right now all I can say is this is a team that is bottom 20 material!

One of the problems with sports today is typified by this change. In today's world, obviously Hess would have been fired after the 1965 season. Many other good/great coaches would be fired today, too. It's just how it's done. Ohio is no different than any other school in that respect. I doubt he'll be fired in the next few years, mostly because I expect the team to continue to improve as the year goes on, and to be very good next year. Whether that happens or not, Solich will probably retire after 2015 or 2016 anyway, which will render the discussion moot. Hopefully he can retire after successful seasons, but either way, I expect he'll retire.

What happens then? Schaus could hire one of the current Assistants, which might or might not work. Alternately, he could go the route of most other MAC programs and hire FCS coaches. Some will do well, and leave after a good year, while others will not do so well, and will get replaced after a few years. In the end, the grass may be greener on the other side, or not. You won't know until you get there.

A better scheme or plays would have made it at least competitive. This game was not competitive.

And you say it was them having better players? Fine. How about all the talk on this board of CUSA being no better than the MAC? That would theoretically mean that Marshall's players are just as good as Ohio players or vice versa. The coaching isn't there.

And no, you can make the comment that CUSA is no better than the MAC. The question is, is the MAC's best as good as CUSA's best? Top to bottom, they are very similar conferences.

WKU waxed BGSU. Yor projexted champ by many. I would say not this year.

I told you all we are a better team than kentucky. Give credit where it is due. Solich is not a bad coach. He is a great coach. I would find a little more respect for a guy thay brought you 3 division titles and your first bowl win and 5 straight bowl games. You are outclassed right now by talent in the field. You were last year as well but 5 turnovers will equalize that talent. Today was a clean game for the most part.

Ps.

Why the hell cant you bring more than 500 fans? Jesus

We were definitely outclassed in talent the past two years. Last year we out worked Marshall, this year we were just overwhelmed. And you are right, even though some will say we had 3-4k, we had about 750 fans.

Frank is the best thing that's ever happened to Ohio Football. Its laughable that anyone on this board over 30 years of age is even engaging in this ridiculousness. I would ask anyone that thinks Frank's tenure is up here to offer up a few names of candidates who would bring something to the table that Frank doesn't. I always hear about the coordinator from Auburn or the guy from Oklahoma that is going to come here and take us to the next level. Ain't happening folks. We're in the MAC and that's that.

This team has weaknesses, but things will improve when they find out who they are and if they don't give up. We are not a top 25 team or even close to it so erase that from your head. Our goal is and should always be MAC East and MAC Championship. This is still within reach, but certainly not expected this year. Better things will come our way. We are not a University or a community to let a loss declare an entire season a waste. Think tO$U. They lose one game to VT and they already feel their season is done. They don't care about Big 10 Championships or Rose Bowls - their sole purpose is on the National Title and being number 1 in everything. That's kind of pathetic. Give me good old OHIO any day. Losing is part growing. Better days ahead.

I should say I don't actually expect Frank to be sent packing. I just want us to start to admit to ourselves that things are not right with this program.

And its not just a "rebuilding year" thing. The wheels have been coming off for quite some time.

The wheels fell off last year because there was absolutely zero heart from the offense when things started to go south.

From what I've seen, we are lacking any identity as an offense. Two quarterbacks, a lot of rotation with different types of running backs, a young line, and no go-to receivers outside of Chase. I think we have enough talent to put together a decent offense, but we haven't found what works yet. If your offense doesn't have a set plan, it doesn't matter whether or not you have a playmaker.

Look at Marshall as an example. The last three years, they've done nothing but talk about how much more talent they had than us. We still beat them because there wasn't a running threat and their "playmakers" had talent, but made too many mistakes. This year, they are a completely different team. Physical up front, excellent running game, and Cato didn't look like the guy we faced the last few years. (Hats off to you, by the way; your team looks great. Too bad your SOS would probably keep you from the playoff, because I think you have a team that could surprise the big boys.)

This isn't last year. We don't have a third year starter like last year, so we're going to have to be patient with the development of the offense. We're coming home for the first time this season to play two very winnable games. I think this is the time we'll need to get it figured out. If we don't start to see some consistency, then we're probably in deep trouble.

There is definitley reason for concern but to say the season is over so soon is a bit of a stretch. One positive is that other than today the defense looks like a very solid unit marshall is probably the best offense our guys will face this year their athletes mixed with their expirience as much as I hate to say it looked more crisp than Kentucky did last week mostly because those guys are still very young. Offensively is my biggest concern I think that we need to name a starter and ride with that guy throughout the game it can't be good for a kids confidence to have in the back of their mind that they could be sat at any point in the game. Also it's not fair to compare these new quarterbacks to Tettleton let us not forget his first year as a starter he had Lavon Brazill as his security blanket and these guys just don't have a WR at that caliber or even Donte foster from last years team. With that being said the O-line needs to open up some more holes for Daz he is running extremely hard rarely goes down off first contact. Chase is a great deep threat but struggles in his intermediate routes to get speration. On defense Ian Wells is playing like a beast Jovon johnson is all over the field and I think Devin jones deserves to be a full time starter regardless if kristoff is healthy or not josh is a smart kid but he just isn't there athletically. Devin Bass was disappointing today but I think it was what he needed after his season he needed to be humbled a little bit and I think this game will force him to realize that he has lots of work to do. Basham has been missing the past three games and I'm wondering when he will show up and prove last year wasn't fluke.

I think this game was a learning expirience and the guys can bounce back depending on how they look at it these next two games at home should rebuild confidence before we get deep into our MAC schedule

Count me amongst those who don't think its over. Quite frankly, a month ago I figured Ohio would be 0-3 at this point, so for us to be still the top team in the MAC East right now (at 1-0 in conference play) I'm pleasantly surprised.

A month ago most of us were saying this is a young team that will start the season with growing pains (Coach Solich said that repeatedly about the offense at several caravan stops in the Spring) that will take its lumps early on. Well, what did we think that would look like? They call it growing PAINS for a reason. A young team with a tremendous amount of turnover on the offensive side of the ball just doesn't turn it on when a new season begins. And I still maintain that it is very difficult, especially for a young team, to open the season with 3 straight games on the road against 3 difficult opponents (and please don't tell me Kent State was not a difficult opponent-they were 4-1 against Ohio the previous 5 years).

This team will improve as the season progresses. Going into this year I thought the team would be 6-6/7-5 at the end year and I still think so. So let's not bury the team before they've had the chance to even play a single home game.

Edit: And I think Ohio's defense will bounce back-sometimes clunkers happen, and Marshall has an outstanding offense (I still say Kentucky beats Marshall at home). Yesterday, Southern Cal's defense gave up 450 yards on the ground to Boston College one week after limiting Stanford to 130 yards on the ground. Did Southern Cal's defense get 3 times worse within one week? No, sometimes it happens-sometimes the team expends so much energy on the prior week's opponent that they are spent the following week. Ohio's defense may have very well been spent after the Kentucky game. I expect them to bounce back.

well the good news is that Eastern Illinois doesn't appear to be the good team they have been in the past so hopefully we will win at least one more non-conference game. I used to think Idaho was a lock, now I'm not so sure.

Cato is a great college quarterback. There were several plays he made on third down after the pocket collapsed that no other quarterback left on the schedule will make. These plays kept drives alive and led to scores. Even though the secondary was exposed, I'm not worried about our defense moving forward.

I have no explanation for the slumping offense. But isn't that the nature of a slump? We're doing the same things we always did to pile on the points, but that approach of old just doesn't seem to be working right now.

Toughen up guys. There' no prize for calling the season over while we sit in 1st place in the MAC.

The OP wasn't necessarily calling the season over. I don't think it is either. I agree, this is still probably a 6 win team. Maybe, with the right breaks. I don't see the 6 wins on the schedule, but wouldn't be surprised to see it.

PG pointed out that the Frank tenure is over. It may not be this year, but we sure can see it from here. And for all you people calling us out saying "Frank has done so much for Ohio football" just stop. WE KNOW. We know that Frank has done that. And grateful for it.

But Frank isn't going to live forever folks. Sometimes I think people on this board are stuck in Happy Valley with Joe Paterno or Tallahassee with Bobby Bowden or Ann Arbor with Lloyd Carr. All great coaches who championships upon championships, but they were eventually asked to leave because change was needed. Change is needed at Ohio. Why is that such a bad thing?

This tread is a joke. No need to hit the panic button after two games most people thought we would lose. Many people have Marshall going to a BCS bowl while UK just lost to Florida in 3 OT's. We have a very young and inexperienced group. The two years after this look to be the best in school history. These implications that Frank should go after a 1-2 start are laughable. He is the best coach we've had by far. I still think we'll go 7-5 which if you go back 10 years people would've been thrilled with. We may do better because of how weak the east is but there is no way we win the MAC title. This team will improve on all facets next year and I promise this will be a team to be reckoned with.

I'm not too worried about this loss. Ohio actually played alright. Marshall simply has a great offense. Cato made play after play yesterday. They'll score on lots of teams this year.

Kentucky took Florida into three OTs yesterday, at Florida. Kentucky is a good team.

Kent on the other hand is not good, but Ohio turned the ball over four times in the second half and still won there. After seeing these three games, I think Ohio will be in the hunt for the MAC East this year.

Lol.....

Ohio fans, I wouldn't take this guy seriously. He is certainly not the advocate you want touting how to be ambassadors for your program.

Actually, I am not thin skinned. I am also not a hypocrite. Do you lack the intellectual ability to make the connection between your rant about "act like you've been there" coming off a bit thinned skinned, the quoted post from a CUSA thread having nothing to do with OU, and the rhetoric you posted predicting a Marshall reaction actually being played out on the OU forum? If so, I apologize for engaging you. It's apparent a battle of wits would be a completely one sided proposition.

The last posts in this thread are correct---Kentucky isn't bad, stupd cow is good and they REALLY wanted yesterday for revenge on the last three years and because they have somewhat legit undefeated aspirations. Offset that against how columbus creamed a kents we struggled against.

To me, the truth is that we'll win some five or so more games just because we're better than the oppo.

But here's the issue: Are we going to fix the very, very, very, evident problems on offense (which I've noted elsewhere on these threads, some points for years..as others have also noted). Those problems on offense keep repeating. The obvious conclusion is that they are not talent problems. They are coaching and scheme problems.

Marshall is a legit top 25 team. The MAC doesn't have any teams even close to top 25 this year. Barring a turnover disaster game, Ohio will be in every other game this year and I still think the Bobcats can come out on top more often than not. Considering that this was sure to be a rebuilding year, I think it still can be a reasonably successful season that can help make the ultimate goals achievable in future seasons.

So I guess for some of you being mediocre year in and year out is our goal. We have hit the glass ceiling and as long as we win 6, 7 or 8 games a year AGAINST SOME OF THE WORST TEAMS IN THE COUNTRY, then hey, we really had a good year.
