We need a repeat of last night. Stop the run, win the game. UK busted off quite a few good TD runs, and had 6 TD's on the ground altogether. Obviously Kent is not Kentucky, we will be dealing with SEC talent, but I think if we come in and survive the storm at the beginning we can come out with a win! UK will be hyped after scoring almost 60 points, even though it was against UT-Martin, but if we can slow that run, Ohio starts 2-0. Go CATS!

Ohio will have to do better in the turnover battle against Kentucky to win, but I expect Ohio to make a game of it. Teams improve more from week 1 to week 2 than any other time during the year, and with this being a young team, I believe that will be especially true this week.

love the over confidence of Kentucky fans, the most common score prediction is UK in the mid 40s and OU in the mid teens. I used to get mad and think it was disrespectful but now I know to sit back and enjoy the show. Can't wait for Saturday.

Boys and girls, we need to find foregiveness this week. This young team does not go toe to toe with Kentucky. Daz, White and mabe even Brown will be a part of success vs Kentucky.  JMHO

These two teams are very similar. Both are young and have loads of talent . Should come down to little things such as coaching and special teams. I'm calling cats with a 20-17 win in OT

"Calling cats"? Ha Ha! I'm calling BOBcats, 'cause the 1st game jitters or whatever led to 4 fumbles will be gone. OHIO is not Tennessee Martin. Go Bobcats!

I don't think that  "not" belongs there. This team will go toe to toe with Kentucky. They may or may not win, but Kentucky will know it was a battle.

Go Bobcats!

L.C. Do not get me wrong. Ohio need not fear Kentucky. I just believe toe to toe will not be the plan. Kentucky is very big up front with experience. I expect Daz, Cochran, Smith, Brown, Cope, etc to get the ball in space then we will see what we will see.

They'll probably learn more about us from Week 1 than we'll learn about them.  Their top two RBs were in for a total of ten plays, and Heard had just two carries -- for 116 yds and 2 tds.  Daz had as many carries by himself as UK's top three backs combined.  UTM didn't give us many hints on how to stop them.

I see that the Game Notes are up already. I also see that we no longer get offensive line stats. I was wondering if that would happen with the new coach, and I guess I'm not surprised as I don't think most schools release that info. Too bad, though...it was one thing I did look at the Game Notes for.

The depth chart is unchanged from last week, by the way.

In other news, the point spread has moved up from 6 to 10.

I was surprised at the early spread, not surprised it has been bet up. Most of the people putting down the money don't know much about either Ohio or Kentucky. This might be the time to make my first bet on a college football game.

To save people from listening to the whole thing, he mentions Ohio at about the 6 minute mark, and there is an insulting press question about 7 minutes, then nothing until about 24 minutes.

To that injury list, I'm not sure about Blake Scipio, who was held out of practices with an injury, and who didn't play against Kent. I also remember hearing that a number of the tight ends had issues, and I note that only Mangen played, so I wonder if there are injury issues with Morgan, Henry, etc.

I think you're right on Morgan. I saw that Henry was dressed but don't remember seeing him in the game.

I think the answer is more insulting then the question. What an arrogant a##. I am glad I bought the tickets now. This will be a very gratifying win.

USAT has a story with several quotes from Stoops' press conference.  The writer focused on our offense's performance vs Kent, but solid defense made it possible to win the game.

While I only viewed the LC-edited version (thanks!), I did not think the coach came off as arrogant at all.  He seemed to have a great deal of respect for Frank and for OHIO.  He even knew our rightful name, unlike the idiot reporter.  Perhaps, FIU guy would like to watch this video and see an SEC coach say "OHIO" numerous times and be referring to the school in Athens with not one person in the audience, with the possible exception of the idiot reporter, having any doubt what school he was referring to.

Okay obviously I heard him wrong. I thought he was saying it would be a chance to get young players playing time and that is not what he said. If anything it was a compliment as he was saying this would be a real game. Sorry for my original post and thanks for the correction.

With a conference game kicking off our season, Frank was not able to approach the game like an opening day. Instead, the impact of the game was so powerful, he had to play anybody anywhere.

So, does Frank approach this game with an opener mentality? I think back to last year's Louisville game and how vanilla and conservative we were in every facet. He seemed to just want to get players some reps and keep everybody healthy. I'm very curious to see how he approaches this game. I think the attitude of the team will necessitate that he pull out all the stops to ensure OHIO is competitive and in the thick of the action throughout.

If we approach this like we did Louisville, then we need to stop scheduling these games.

I don't understand the question.

They will do as they always do. They will break down Kentucky, as they broke down Louisville, and as they broke down Penn State. They will try to make a solid plan to exploit things that they think will work. They will come up with various defensive alternatives to cover Kentucky with matchups they think will work. They will emphasize solid play, and execution of fundamentals.

What they won't do is come up with some crazy plan that takes Ohio out of what they want to run. They will still be 50-50 run-pass. They will still run the basic Ohio offenses and defenses. They will run plays they will run the rest of the year, just the ones that they think are most apt to work against Kentucky.

If everything goes right, it will turn out like Penn State. If everything goes wrong, it will turn out like Louisville. Well, strike that ... it won't turn out like Louisville because this team has too much fight for that. They may lose, but if they do, Kentucky will still know they were in a battle.

In the end the team that wins will be the one that executes the fundamentals the best, and the one that makes the fewest mistakes.

I'm really enjoying reading the predict the score thread on their Rivals message board.  Have I been asleep for the past 3 decades and missed that Kentucky has become an SEC powerhouse?  Those that have posted clearly think this is going to be a cakewalk for them.

So encouraged by our performance against KSU.  Echo the sentiments about the attitude of this team.  Gonna be a fun year.

I think the vanilla/conservative approach for Louisville was more about necessity than preference. I recall Solich being quoted as the team not being as ready as he wanted before the season started last year. I think he was limited on the playcalling last year vs. sandbagging it for the MAC schedule.

This season, I can't believe how much more prepared the players looked vs. last year. No penalties on the offense or defense for the first game really shows a lot of concentration and discipline. Maybe they were so focused on the snap counts/formations/plays that they forgot to hold onto the football...

I have noticed that living near some Kentucky fans that they have this delusional thought that, "hey our basketball team is great, so our football team is automatically great, not matter what record we've attained."

The good news is, UK is nowhere near as good as Louisville was last year. They are certainly better than the record they had last year, but not top-tier SEC better. And Ohio is probably better too, albeit younger. SEC teams can be beat, as Vandy showed us in Week 1. I think it will be closer than a lot of people think.
