OK, wise-ass, please read the following: Ohio-Ohio State Settlement.  This will start your Ohio Bobcat education.  You will read about an out-of-court settlement between Ohio and its younger brother on the use of the name "Ohio."  It resulted from a suit that junior brought against us for using our own name in the AttackCat logo.  Their lawyers told them they were going to lose in court, after we produced references to Ohio University as "Ohio" from as early as the 1890s.  If we had not agreed to this settlement (and I personally wish we hadn't), O$U might have had to change the name of their stadium as well as stop doing "Script Ohio."  They might have had to use their real name and do, "Script Ohio State."  Oh, the shame of it all!

Your telling me, that if someone asks where did you get a degree from and that person stated "Michigan" they would have to say university before? No. Just like Indiana. While you push "Ohio" for some reason over the many years Ohio University has not arrived to just be called Ohio.

What I'm telling you is that you lack the ability to communicate your point properly. You were using examples of schools that had the word 'State' in their title, you made no sense. I corrected you. You then used a proper example but still failed at making your point, so I will now attempt to make it for you. What you are trying to say is that big schools don't have to qualify their name with the word 'university', but Ohio does. And I would agreed with you, if you said this 10 years ago, but that is not the case today. Ohio is universally used by the media to reference our humble institution without confusion by the public. So congratulations on your failed attempt at a 2004 burn. Very impressive.

fiugoldenpanthers1 wrote:
Hate to tell you, but, that picture of Will Ferrell with "Ohio" on his chest is just a generic sweater to act a part of a university student, it has no relation to Ohio University. The colors are not even right.

What? really? Hold on, are you saying that the University of Ohio isn't a real school and that our colors aren't even red? My mind is officially blown. Are you sure? Thank you so much for pointing that out, I really had no idea. Can we be friends?

fiugoldenpanthers1 wrote:
Lastly, this all started with Ohio State jealousy. Why be obsessed over that school? Concentrate more on turning Ohio University into a better university than be jealous over a school that has already made it.

Thank you for saying what needed to be said, because let's face it, nobody ever claims OSU fans are arrogant morons. Never ever. That sentiment only exists here amongst us obviously jealous (and inferior!) Ohio fans. Maybe one day we will have the self confidence to share in the universal love and admiration of Buckeye fans that is felt all around the country. What can I say, we wish were cool like them and we're not, and it hurts. But maybe, just maybe, with more tone deaf lecturing from FIU fans like yourself we'll see the error in our ways.

Actually, no, it started with a lawsuit. Perhaps you are unaware that about 15 years ago Ohio State sued Ohio to claim that they not only had the right to call themselves Ohio State, but that they also had the right to call themselves Ohio as well. Since then Ohio has been very protective of their name, for good reason.

In terms of public perception (or even simple awareness of FIU's existence, which admittedly is a stretch) this is the university's defining moment.... so keep up the good work!

Wow, bringing up FIU's even more infant years, back in 2007. 5 year old program at that moment, how old was Ohio program then? I think FIUs golden moment, so far, would be the hook and ladder play in the Little Caesars  Bowl in 2010. I do appreciate that you knew of FIU in 2007, to tell you the truth, before I did a lot of research for programs in the Ohio area, I have never heard of Ohio University.

I just feel sad that a school that is supposed to be the older brother, does not act like one. There is no need to be upset to see your young brother grow up and be more successful than you. You should not hate them for it.

I don't post here often, but I am tired of seeing some jackass from school that none of us even care about insult our school. It goes further than football when you start insulting our academics. If you did the research as you said, you would realize that OHiO has much to offer academically. Many of us here have done just fine for ourselves with our degrees. The pride that OHIO alums have for their university as a whole is unrivaled. So I would hope that you reconsider becoming part of our bobcat family. There is no place for people who won't be proud of our school.

Ok, what's your problem and just who do you think you are? You voluntarily join our community, immediately insult our beloved institution in just about every way possible (Ohio "U", facilities, academics, supposed national recognition problem), and then have the nerve to tell us how we should act as fans. I hate to break this to you, but if you didn't know that there was an Ohio University, then it is more a sign of your own ignorance rather than an statement about our national recognition. You strike me as being part of the unfortunately large percentage of people who when asked, could not tell you which state was which on a map. Know your world man! You really have know idea of what you are talking about! So, if you were just looking to get a rise out of us, then congratulation! Make sure you have a good laugh about this with your buddies on the other end of your x-box mic and please go away!

Be proud of your university, don't be jealous of a university you wish you were. Ohio University is Ohio University, and Ohio State is Ohio State. Be proud of your school and stop bringing up and being jealous of another.

Fellow Bobcats.....I don't think FIU is far off base. All he is saying is that we are jealous of some of the success of OSU. I would tend to agree with him on that. When people say Ohio they think Ohio State. Part of what makes OU great is that we are under the radar and right community. Overall OSU has higher ranked athletics, academics and endowment. I would still choose OU I'm a heartbeat. The general public would differ...everyone knows OSU, but a much smaller group know about OU. We should embrace who we are and stop bashing anyone who points out our perceived weaknesses. I say perceived because I think it actually adds to what makes OU special. I hate OSU as much as the next guy, but let's be realistic here...we are Ohio, but based on perception, OSU is as well.

Our friend from FIU might be interested to know that the President of FIU is Mark Rosenberg. Mark was born and raised in Athens, went to Athens High School. I won't say which college he attended as anyone is entitled to make a mistake. Mark is very proud of FIU and from what I have heard he should be. Does no one any good to put down one school in order to boost your image of your own school.

LOL back to the main point I wouldn't be shocked if Navy won this game at all. They're supposed to be very very good this season. To state that a team without their best player will beat them by 35 is absurd. I suggest FIU and others who defend this crazy fan to read up on Navy and their star QB Keenan Reynolds because he will give OSU fits

+1 cuz!

And, it appears that this arrogant ignoramus (a combination that I can't stand) hasn't even bothered to read the link about the OSU suit.  So, not only is he an arrogant ignoramus he wants to stay one.  For this I have absolutely no respect.  He keeps saying the same thing over and over, without any indication that he has tried in the least to educate himself about the situation and to learn that the feelings expressed on this board stem from a certain historical context that might not be obvious to someone whose brain is baking in the the Florida sunshine. I would agree with the poster who said he should enroll in some other college's online MBA program.  Phoenix University strikes me as just his type of place

That would be Navy sailor, JSF!   Though I did train for a time with Marines, so that I am more of a grunt than most Navy men.  Shhh . . .  please don't let Lou "the Grunt" (aka oldkatz) know anything about my learning how to clean out an M1 rifle and perform the manual of arms.  Some things are best kept private -- just between the two of us.

Wait, do  we play FIU this year or something?  What is going on here?  The last thing I expected was to see a verbal battle with an FIU fan.  Bizarre.  Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go troll the Colorado State message board, because why not?

Be sure to tell them that you're planning on enrolling via an online course for graduate work at CSU and that they should know their place in the pecking order behind Colorado and USAFA.

why are you ignoring your fellow board members that are agreeing with me? I have seen quite a few.

Univetsity of Phoenix, I lol to that. Talking about a waste of money with a degree that you could never be proud of, nor you would ever want to put on your resume. Are you stating University of Phoenix is in the same category as Ohio University? Shame on you, literally, same.

I have done plenty of research and it came down to a few true universities and Ohio University seems like the right place, due to where I want to move to. AACSB is extremely important and tier 1 is extremely important as well, and I will be in Athens at least three times as part of the program, the student has to be on campus three times for project workshops.

One last thing, I like Ohio University, thus why I am looking to do my graduate degree here, and I want to be part of the community. I hope opinions as accepted, as you will see some people, which were ignored, agreed with what I had to say.
