I'm surprised that the highlights of the 44-7 thrash of stupd cow doesn't show our first takeaway.  Wasn't it an interception off of an 8-yard pass by stupd cow?  That was the beginning of the floodgates opening which overwhelmed the bad guys.  That first half was the 'Cats, the 'Cats, the 'Cats.

Remember when our quarterbacks used to dive to the goal line for scores?!  I hope we see some diving for goal lines by them on Saturday.

It shows that INT off a tipped pass to #4 Leftwich. Really liked that kid to bad he couldnt stay healthy heard he came back from partial hip replacement and won an indoor football title.

Well you called that one L.C. Please don't tell me they will leave out Akron 06 for NTS in 09.

There were a lot of important games in 2006, actually. I agree about the Akron game, which clinched the MAC East. but I thought the win over NIU in 2006 was important, too, because it showed two things. It showed that AE could get the job done, and it also showed that they could come from behind, given they were trailing 17-7 with 5 minutes left in the first half. You could also argue in favor of the 2006 WMU game, given that WMU was a good, bowl-bound team that year, and that it came at a critical time, with the Bobcats needing to regroup after the debacle against BG

All three of those 2006 games, though, have the disadvantage that they were longer ago. Voters tend to go with things that are more recent, for better or worse. I wouldn't argue if they leave off the ULM victory, and put Akron '06 in at #4, but if it's not #4, we both know it won't be on the list.  I'm pretty sure that everyone agrees on 1-3, those being Utah State, Penn State, and Pitt, though they might change their order slightly.

Oh wow I can't believe I forgot the WMU game in 06. That was the game that hooked me on Ohio football. Who can forget the qb run at the critical point of the 4th quarter that helped put it away after almost blowing a big lead. That game had it all, including a great punt return for a touchdown which I believe at the time set the school record for longest return. I also remember Mike Mitchell getting the fans going just when everyone was about to give up. What a game.

NIU, Akron, Kent, WMU, Illinois, and the first win over Miami to start the streak. Aside from a home stinker against BG, 2006 was an intriguing regular season.

That WMU game was a lot of fun - the punt return by Garret, the huge Everson keeper, a big red zone stop on fourth down, and not to mention I think that game was Mike Mitchell's coming out party. I fondly remember half of my face sunburning too.

I loved those 2006 games. The team had so much heart. The other thing that hurts those games in the voting is that there are no Evan Shaw "closer look" highlights available to refresh our memories. Sadly, especially after Everson's ankle injury, that team just didn't have the horses to keep up with CMU in the MACC or SMU in the GMAC.

The red zone stop against WMU is the play I remember the most. I think Ohio blitzed on the play leaving Michael Graham on a WR and he barely got his left hand on the pass at the goal line or the WR had the easy score.

Since the Advocare Bowl is on the list, I will say that the argument for it's importance is that it is the first game that I recall where Ohio really blew out a good team. They have some other wins over bowl-caliber teams, but not blowouts. I suppose the Marshall game in 2011, would also qualify.

The shame about not having some of those 2006 games on the list is that there is no film online of those games, and it would have been nice to have seen some of those things mentioned in the posts above again.

This Solich 10 for 10 is an "Act of Genius".
The production crew has done a sensational job of not only the game clips but the prelude to each 10 for 10 is purely the stuff that makes for Emmy nomination.
Great job.

No surprise at #3, with the Potato bowl. Now comes the key question - which win is #1, Pitt, or Penn State?

Can't believe fans didn't vote the Akron '06 win in there. How quickly we forget...

Still one of my favorite games and was the icing on the cake to show just how far we had come. Will never forget students storming the field.

How can anyone who remembers the celebration after the 06 Akron game leave it off the list?

I suspect you have answered your own question. There has been a tremendous increase in the fanbase since 2006, so a lot of voters probably don't remember the 2006 games at all, putting those games at a disadvantage in the voting. Six of the top ten are from 2011 or after. The Illinois and Pitt wins, though older, were P5 wins, so they have extra meaning to a lot of people. That left the 2006 Miami game and the 2009 NTSU games as the only other older games, and they were 9 and 10. Other 2006 games such as Akron, NIU, and WMU may well have finished 11, 12, and 13, and I suspect that the vote difference between #9 and #13 was very small. I wish they could have made it a two week event, and done 14 for 14.

I'll never forget siting in my James Hall dorm room, with guys that turned out to become very good friends, listening to that North Texas game on the radio.

The North Texas game was probably the last time in my life where I can say I was in a room with a computer connected to the internet that couldn't get a visual on the action.

Hell, it was the first and last time I saw 20,000 people see the end of the game.  I agree, even though we were not great that year, and Pitt was not great either...It started it all.  Got us a lot of fans, recruits, recognition, etc. that ultimately helped us be more successful and accomplish many of the other later wins on the list.

I know we are talking Solich's top 10 games and I agree, the latest most exciting stretch of OU football ever but...just wanted to comment on those victories before Solich and Grobe was coach.  These include multiple wins over Minnesota and some solid games beating Miami handily.  Thanks for the post on the 10 for 10.  This data always helps keep my boys interested in Ohio rather than the diluge of ACC and NC sports down here in the piedmont of NC in which they are surrounded.

I will never forget this night. I was working as an intern for the AD during the game escorting the old Rufus (Mouse) Bobcat around. The girls they had wearing the costume couldn't see going up and down steps so you kind of had to point them in the right direction. We also had to make sure little kids didn't jump the Bobcat from behind.

Anyway, there were to be two different Rufus Bobcats that night, separated by half. The first girl never showed up. The second girl showed up half-drunk. So she puts the costume on, and I'm not sure people remember but it was super muggy that night. She basically was down to her underwear in the suit. Low and behold, I underestimated how drunk she was. Twice we had to leave the stadium in the first half so she could take the giant bobcat head off and throw up in the bushes outside of Peden Tower. Even some passers by who were late coming to the game knew it was a bad night for the Bobcat.

So I talk to my supervisor and literally say "The Bobcat is drunk." He allows her to leave and I take the smelly costume back to the Convo storage area. As much as it sucked, because I wanted to do some actual work for my interning, I got to see the entire 2nd half from field level. I was standing in the opposite end zone when Dion Byrum intercepted the Tyler Palko pass and took it 80 yards to the house. Dion was running right towards me. I could already see students falling down over each other on Victory Hill trying to rush the field and the play wasn't even over! I moved off the field and ran up the steps and stood behind the goal post and witnessed the chaos that ensued.

I ran out of the stadium after about ten minutes and immediately called my dad. I asked if he had watched the game and he said no, but he could tell I was excited. The walk home to State Street that night was something I will never forget. With the biggest smile on my face I was high-fiving fellow students who were strangers, updating people who hadn't seen or heard about the game, and almost running back to my house because the feeling was so overwhelming. It's one of those nights in college that will be impossible to erase from your mind.

I will not ever forget jumping around in celebration at the end of that game with my dad and brother. That game was what got me watching Ohio athletics obsessively.

Great story!

The fact that the Penn State victory finished ahead of Pitt is just one more sign that the Ohio fanbase is still growing. That's a good thing, not a bad thing, but it does mean that the newer, more recent victories win out over older ones.

I was so happy to see the Penn State game at number one! I was in my 4th year with the 110 at the time, and we were berated and verbally attacked the entire first half. It was awesome to see the game change in the way of the Green and White, and shut up the Penn State fans sitting behind us. I will never forget the 110 and section of Ohio fans at the corner of the stadium cheering back and forth, and throwing in some "OU, Oh Yeah!" chants as well.

..., and I hope that 5 years from now, it's no longer #1, and there are future wins that will knock it, and Pitt, down a few more rungs.
