Considering I just called up Marshall today and got 6 seats on the 50 yard line, I don't think they're going that fast!

I know that there's one section with about 40 seats of former season ticket holders that will be up for grabs this year.  Good friends of ours are members of a tailgating group that had these 40 seats in a very good section of the stadium.  They'd had them since the early days of the current stadium.  Last year they were told that to keep those seats they'd have to pay a big extra fee.  Something akin to joining the OBC at a certain level.  This was going to be more than $1,000 per family.  As a group they decided to say, "forget it"!  They are now going to do their tailgating at a member's home (as they have always done) and then instead of going to the game they are going to watch it on TV.  A major mistake, IMHO, by the Marshall AD's office.  This group, at least, should have been grandfathered in for their many years of loyalty as sons and daughters of Marshall.

Not possible. Someone else has those seats.

You always had to have a donation for chairback seats. There was no "new" donation.

The season tickets were redistributed this year and you were given levels that allowed you to renew you season tickets. Each level had a date that you could access the renewal site, I think it gave you a week or so to renew.

The people with the higher priority points got first dibs on seats.

If your seats were unavailable whenever it was your turn to choose, you were able to choose whatever was available, and so on and so forth.

No one asked them to pay more for their seats, they just got bumped back by someone who donated more to the school... This is what almost all major schools do.

It's fine if they didn't want to be apart of the Marshall football, because their spots are taken, all donation requred seats are sold out.

Two years ago I sat in the endzone with quite a few other Bobcats. I enjoyed those seats greatly.

I've seen crazier things happen.

All I can say is that your story differs in many particulars from what my friends and their friends (members of this same group) told me.  Since I know them and don't know you (other than from your posts on this board), I'll chose to believe them.  No offense meant.

Well not really. If 40 people gave up their seats to stay home on watch it on TV their physical seats might be taken but unless the stadium is sold out those 40 have not been replaced.

and if someone just got 6 seats on the 50 my guess would be donation required seats are not sold out.

According to this link Sections 108,110,112,114,116,118, 107,109,111 & 113 all require a donation. I'll believe they are sold out when I see them full on game day. That would be every single seat  in the yellow sections.

Then how can Mike Hammrick upgrade the next person who calls to the chair backs if they are sold out? Are those not donation required seats? The AD is giving them away for the price of regular admission.

My bad I was under the impression that chairbacks were the only donation seats. But they are sold out seen here

The donation amount has been the same for s while, so like I said... someone else has their seats and they WERE NOT asked to donate more before they bought them. They were bumped out by someone else who donated more than them and had first priority... they were more than welcome to grab any of the other seats that we have in our other sections.

My question is if they are sold out we will just talk about the chairbacks, How could Marshall upgrade you to the chairbacks yesterday for a Tuesday promotion? I think if you go to the Marshall website and try to order tickets for the chairbacks you can not do this online because you have to donate to the Big Green to order chairbacks so chairback orders must be placed in person or over the phone. And possible you can not order single seats to the chairbacks at this time only season tickets.

Look I just went through the ordering process at Herdzone for Season tickets. I can buy chairbacks on the 50 yard line. 2 tickets in section 114 row 49 seats 7 and 8.. There are also plenty of seats in all the other chairback sections except for 112. You are living in Fantasy Land.. Nothing is sold out except section 112.

You're absolutely right, they aren't all sold out... row 49 is high up there so it looks like all chairbacks aren't gone yet... which is my mistake for only looking at single game tickets.

But I'll say this, once again, no one was asked to donate more money for the same seats. They require a $300 donation... that's it. If someone happened to donate more than them, they got first dibs on their seat.

They were able to choose DIFFERENT seats at the same exact price as they always have once someone else took theirs, but they were not asked to donate more.

Is it unfortunate? Yes, very... but Hamrick wants to give incentive to people who are stepping up and helping the program.

If it were me, I'd be happy to move up a few rows knowing there are people donating more than I am.., I guess some people don't see it that way.

but you said they were ALL sold out and that is clearly not the case.  Look at section 116 you can get seats in the 8th row there,  I would hope the two sections (112 & 114) that are on the 50 yard line would be sold out but they are not. According to this link Sections 108,110,112,114,116,118, 107,109,111 & 113 all require a donation for season tickets. To my understanding it was people that sat on the EAST side that got bumped and were ticked off and said forget it. Most people don't like sitting in the chairbacks cause the elderly fans get mad if they cheer or forbid they stand up.

And did you see MU announced a new promotion today.. ALL Seats for OHIO are $15 if you use the promo code "MUONE" at Herdzone.com. I don't even think section 112 is sold out. I bet if I called the ticket office they have multiple single seats in that section. Just all the ones together are gone.

Okay first off, I opened my last post with "You're right" I said I didn't realize the seats weren't sold out, because if you try to buy them individually on the website you can't... regardless they are close to sold out.

If they sit on the east side, it's a $50 donation with seats. My response was prompted by the other guy saying the fans were told "they'd have to pay a big extra fee"

Which isn't true.

Didn't MU have a bidding war on tickets this year? I heard they released all the tickets and then let people pick their seats based on donation? Not sure if the previous seat holders had the opportunity or was told you have to donate x amount to keep your seats. But if what was posted here is true in the long run was it worth losing 40 long time season ticket holders? Probably not. Looks more like a practice from a school that is 100% sold out with season tickets and has a waiting list to buy tickets not a school that averages 25000 in a 40000 seat stadium and sell only 12000 to 14000 season tickets a year.

Well my friends tell a different story. They say that's exactly what happened to their group. And, the money being asked for was way over a $300 donation. These folks could all afford to pay the higher price, but they decided as a group as a matter of principle they were not going to be blackmailed that way. I'm not saying that they made a good decision, or that I would have made the same decision given the same circumstances, I'm just reporting what they told me. To tell you the truth, I regretted this decision because I always enjoyed sitting with them during games at Marshall. Last year, I came down for the UAB game and sat with this group and heard all about their decision both from our friends and from all the rest of the group. Except for this Saturday, Go Marshall!

Your friends are wrong. Thats not what happened. They may havr gave them an option to increase their donation to keep said seats, but there was no extra fee to stay right at their seats. Marshall will be far better off financially and actually rewards those who give to the program and deserve better seats. Marshall gives 4 priority points per year just for loyalty + the ampunt of donation as priority points. This essentially afds up to $400 per year equivalent in donations. Meaning someone giving the minimum and buying season tix for say 10 years, would accumulate 40 priority points. This means a new donor would need to give $4,000 just to match what MU gives in loyalty credit to its fans. Thats not counting the points for whatever donations etc are given.

There are a few fans that either don't possess the correct information or understanding of the reseating plan, or they just hate change or gave the minimum amount for a few years for way better seats than someone who is giving more (rare) and are pissed.

I had 1 guy that i literally broke down his complainy andnhe gve 7500 total for 20 years and mu awarded him $17,000 in value for just loyalty of being a consecutive season ticket holder that long. Id say thats damn goof for rewarding loyalty.

To clear up a couple things about this year's reseating of JCE Stadium and the Cam Henderson Center. The facilities at Marshall have never been reseated so it was new to Herd fans. The slate was wiped clean prior to the season. Its as if the stadium/arena was just opening. No season ticket renewal forms were sent out, only a season ticket pledge form.

Two years prior to the reseating, Big Green members who were season ticket holders were notified of the plan and given the opportunity to opt out of the reseating by reserving their current seats with a commitment to the Vision Campaign IN ADDITION to their current donation. The commitment was higher the more seats needed to be reserved. At the least it was a 5 year, $5000 commitment.

If you chose not to reserve your seats they went into the bank where Big Green members were able to choose the best seats available in order of priority points, 1-3,000 or so. Each Big Green member was assigned a day and time that they could order. My date to order didn't come around until the second week.

Some people lost seats and some gained. I chose not to reserve my seat from last year, I didn't have any kind of family or emotional connection to the seats. But I actually picked up an Annex parking spot and moved up to row 2 on the 50. So it worked out well for me.

Yes and if you were any kind of big green donor or a season ticket holder for a ling time, you are easily in the top 1500 to choose and have no problem. If you are a big green memeber at all,you got to pick in the first 3500.... this was blown out of proportion. The vision campaign option was to make aure your seats were safe but hardly anyone did that, because the priority points they did have would easily let them keep or upgrade their seats.

Again, it is designed so those giving 50 bucks a year have to ante up to keep their good seats that thise giving several hundred or more a year could get the seats they deserve based on their contribution.... even with that said, if they have been giving 50 for a ling time, then theyll still be able to keep them off loyalty points awarded.
