Vick's data was 18-24-0, 262 yards, and 2 TD's, NCAA Pass Efficiency of 194.2. That's a very good game for him. Cope was the leading wide receiver with 2 catches for 71 yards.

As far as rushing, it looks like:

        Carries  Yards   TD's  Fumbles  yds/carry
Daz       17      61      0       2        3.6
Vick       8      35      0       0        4.4
Oeullette  6      28      0       0        4.7
Brown      5      23      0       1        4.6
White      6      23      0       0        3.8
Edmond     2       5      0       1        2.5

Well, defense is stout.  Special teams is stout.  Offense is better than I expected, except for the whole fumbling thing.
BTW, I saw that Kent were 2.5 point favorites to win.

A brief history of second half scoring by Ohio vs Kent State-

2014- 3 pts
2013- 0 pts
2012- 0 pts
2011- 7 pts
2010- 3 pts
2009- 8 pts (punt return)
2008- 9 pts (3 FGs)
2007- 15 pts (2 TDs)
2006- 0 pts
2005- 14 pts
2004- 6 pts (TD, missed PAT)
2003- 6 pts
2002- 30 pts (Ohio won 50-0)

From '03-'14 Ohio scored a total of 71 pts in the second half of games vs Kent St., 50 pts at home, 21 pts away. That's 1 TD (with a missed PAT) and 5 FGs in the last 6 games at Dix Stadium. That's some crazy voodoo.

Just got back.

1. Great turnout by NE Ohio Bobcats. It's fun when our mid-major fan base travels like a high major fan base.

2. Impressive turnout by KSU students. Most stayed through the end, too.

3. Frank Solich was one fumble away from suiting up himself so he had a trustworthy guy carrying the ball. Usually you run the ball to avoid turnovers. With Vick's pinpoint accuracy tonight, throwing was much safer. Ouellette is going to be a fan and Frank favorite. Saw him play at Covington and he has an unstoppable motor.

4. "You say you want to make something real. You want to make a Yaz record." Kent State could've taken 17 timeouts before  that kick and it was inevitable.

5. Can every game start at 6 p.m.? It's an awesome start time.

7. Guys on here told me the defense was good. I did not believe them. It was putrid last year. I believe now. Great pressure off the edge. Gaps were being plugged inside. Some trouble in getting heads turned around on deep passes by DBs, but that's a pandemic in college football.

&. Jeremy Guy was the man upstairs making the review calls. Prove me wrong.

I cannot put into words how amazed I am by the NEO turnout by OHIO fans. The last couple years have been great. People are showing up. Akron games, Kent games and the MAC tourney.

It is high major. End of story.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Watched a little on replay.  Jovon Johnson closes fast, shut some plays down.

If you remember Jovon Johnson was the other kid we got from Solon in that recruiting class. Hammonds was the get or so we thought.
Last night I thought Johnson and Blair Brown both flew around and made plays. Just seemed like the Kent offense was a mess. Even their big plays looked unscripted. In cases like that it's tough to stay disciplined. The defense played very well. I was impressed with the entire d line. As good as I thought they would look. Also Devon Jones, and the offensive line stood out for me. Great team win. They looked like a Frank Solich coached team. Now just stay healthy.

Ugh, the fumbles.

We were standing by the south end zone for most of the 4th (since we were parked out behind the student stands on the opposite side from the main ones), and we were down to the Kent 31 yard line. At that point we had fumbled 3x, the last 2 of them on the Kent 25 yard line.  I turned to my wife and sarcastically said "well, we're 6 yards away from fumbling it", and ON THE NEXT PLAY THERE WENT THE DAMN FOOTBALL.  It was on the 22 this time, but she just looked at me and started laughing hysterically, and told me to shut up.

Pretty solid crowd for a Kent game.  Ohio didn't outdraw Kent, but it was probably 65/35 (counting their students, who turned out very well), which was still pretty good.

I know we'll find out more about this team in coming weeks but very encouraged after last night.

- Not sure Vick could've played much better. Glad coaches didn't waste possessions by doing the dual-QB thing.
- Feel good about a lot of position groups. If Sprague is close to Vick, then Ohio should be OK there. Plenty of talent at RB and WR. TE might be thin due to injury but Mangen looked good. Young OL got some push and gave Vick time to throw.
- For the first time in awhile, looks like we have some OLBs making plays. Poling did well in place of Russell. Heard his name a lot early.
- Finally have some size at the safety spot.
- Tackling was outstanding. Can't remember many times where Kent St. guy didn't go down immediately.
- Excellent rotation of D-lineman.
- Punting appeared to be quicker.
- Not sure how good KSU line is given the sudden loss of Bitsko. Flashes didn't appear to have many offensive weapons.

Comparison to last year:

  2013 2014
Ohio Net Rushing Yards 69 175
Ohio Average Per Rush 2.0 4.0
Kent St. Net Rushing Yards 312 31
Kent St. Average Per Rush 7.4 1.4
Ohio Passing Yards 135 262
Ohio Average Per Attempt 4.7 10.9
Kent St. Passing Yards 225 264
Kent St. Average Per Attempt 6.8 6.4
Nate Terhune 61-yard TD runs 1.0 0.0

Last time Ohio scored under 20 pts in a football game and still won: 2011 at home vs Kent (17-10).

Last time Ohio scored under 20 pts in a road football game and won: 2009 at Akron (19-7).

Very funny Terhune stat, Ted.

I want our back-up qb(s) to play to get experience.  Of course, this should be by our choice, not by dire necessity.

Prediction:  You'll see more passes to the tight ends.
